Something about the R160's

In the past week I have noticed something different   about them, their seats are smaller than they used to be.  Is that to have more room for rush hour?

They fitted one set of R160s with fold-up chairs and the idea was that the chairs would be folded up during rush hour and make the train standing-only but that didn't work out apparently and now that set has the regular seats installed again..other than that, they have not changed the seats on the r160

Maybe, not to be rude, you gained a little weight there.  Because I've been riding the R160 Q's and never seen a difference in seating, unless I have a bookbag on, then yeah obviously it felt slightly smaller.

What about the set that doesn't have the metallic ends? That set that looks like an R143 on the inside but has FINDS and that picture of the fish or that new picture.

I didn't pay attention to the number but it has white around the windows instead of metal and at the ends of the car it has the R143 texture/wallpaper thing and has folding seats. It sounds like an R160 with FINDs and everything but it has those few differences I noticed. By the way, just wondering what your opinions are: Which is easier, being a conductor or an elevator operator(you have to swipe a special card that enables you to press the button) and explain why.

What does being a conductor or an elevator operator have to do with this thread?

But to answer the question, they are both totally different jobs.  I personally would take conductor as there's more going on.  An elevator operator, you're confined to one spot.

IIRC, the first few R160s delivered had R143-style trim, and the ADA seats at the cab end of the A cars.

I rode the pilot set for the R160A-2s on the Q line 2 months ago, it had this arrangement. I'm not sure how many and which cars are set up this way.

Actually,as a motorman,there are a few differences about the interior of the R143 and the R160.The R143 has a light blue texture on the walls of the interior,as the R160 is white-or light beige colored.Also,to cover the inside for the route display outside,the R143 inside have a small rectangular screen that gives some advice about the NYC Subway,the R160 just has a picture of a fish or another new one.For the R143,the screen on the top is also surrounded with light blue textures.The R160 has it surrounded with black.I hope this is has help explain everything.Thanks for your time.

In layman's terms, the R160 has a FIND system and the R143 doesn't, however on the bright side, the back of the R143 LED display, or the interior display, has another LED display that cycles through various MTA-related amenities.

The R160's without the stainless steel interior plating were used around the time of the test runs back in 2006. I'm guessing the plating was installed for anti-vandalism measures.

I have heard varying reasons on why it the trim was switched from white to stainless steel from the earliest R160s to the rest, the most common ones being that the stainless steel was cheaper, or that it was for anti-vandalism reasons.
