try using openbve [if you have] or any other "playing" simulation games every time you make a change.

You need either Wordpad or Notepad then depending, you have to learn how to code the route:
.CSV Route (More Modern) - http://openbve.trainsimcentral.co.uk/develop/route_csv.html (http://openbve.trainsimcentral.co.uk/develop/route_csv.html)
.RW Route (Less Modern (IMO, Easier)) - http://openbve.trainsimcentral.co.uk/develop/route_rw.html (http://openbve.trainsimcentral.co.uk/develop/route_rw.html)

that's right

Also, CSV has more features than RW. That's what make it harder. It also has many symbols, including . , $ etc. RW only has @ , and . .

My opinion:
If you want to learn the basics of route building with csv without any vagueness or much complexity, click on "ipaclansite's route building tutorials." It should steer you in the right path of coding routes. Later, you could also click on other tutorials to learn off of them or continue learning off of already existing 1st generation routes (G, 7, etc.). This is all I know; the rest is up to you. Have fun coding! ;D

Start off with Kevin's Tutorials in the Link PencilCase provided, then when you get the hang of it move on to Dennis Lance's tutorial. I recommend Dennis Lance's tutorial because it actually comes with a route you can mess with and he teaches you some more advanced commands, but Kevin's tutorial will show you the basics so you can prolly skip ahead in Dennis Lance's lessons
