Nice vids! When did they out the r46 on the (H) train? I thought only the r32s were there.
-
They repaired one of the two tracks along Jamaica bay (No signals or third rail power yet though) so they could swap out the R32s for R46s so they could run less expensive One-Person-Train-Operation.
The first set of R46s arrived on Thursday, December 20th 2012, and was in service beginning on Friday December 21st, 2012. That day was the only day when a mix of R32s and R46s was running on the (H).
By Saturday, December 22nd, 2012, more R46s were brought over, and all of the R32s were removed from the (H) line.
-
Ah. I see. That probably explains why I saw an (H) train poster on the (C) train yesterday.
-
Yep, all the R32s that were on the (H) were sent back to the C, which moved all the remaining R42s back to the J/Z lines.
-
:( I liked having the R42 on the (C)

i always wondered with the 32's and 38's, how do they change the flipdots? Is there some switch in the overhead, or what?

Taking the C train to school everyday, I've had the opportunity to glance into the conductors cab. There is a big dial on the upper right wall, and when adjusted changes the flipdots displayed. As for the mechanics, I don't know...
-
I used to have a picture of that dial but i can't find it now... -_-
As for the mechanics how it all works, aspiring engineers, read up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flip-disc_display (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flip-disc_display)

Thanks Dj Hammers. I'll see if I can get a clear shot of the dial next week.
