Title: Status of the R32s, R42s, and R46s
Post by: IIRules2 on April 18, 2012, 05:22:25 pm
Since i don't recall any topics about this, i decided to bring this up. According to the MTA's current capital plan, the R179 will be an order of 300 cars (if i'm not wrong) to replace the remaining R32s and R42s still in service. This change is due to take effect in 2015 and bombardier is going to build this fleet of cars. Also, the MTA's capital plan for 2015-2019 will produce the R211s, which will replace the R46 fleet of cars.

What are your thoughts about this? Oh and if my information is incorrect in any way please tell me.

I would say it's too early to tell about the whereabouts of the R211.  But with the R179, I'd say that it's safe to say that it's a new era coming upon us.

I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore train buff but of the 3 to be replaced, I would miss the R32.

I hope they look sorta different then the R160's and not a exact duplicate. I will miss the R32's though.

According to the mockup on the MTA's site, it may exactly be that. Though there may be some slight differences.
