On the Download page for routes, there is often a video of the route on most of them. When there is no video available yet, is there a video of the route automatically chosen to go on that page, or does the uploader have to contact an admin to put their video up on the download page? I'm just asking, as I'm curious.

Videos are put up by the admins. If you have a video you recorded and placed on youtube, and you want it on the downloads page, please contact an admin, and we'll gladly put it up for you, preferably me.
All members however, are allowed to post screenshots to the downloads section. You can do this by accessing the gallery and uploading a screenshot for a specific download.

Okay. But is it also possible to get your video of a certain train put up on the download page for that train too, or is it only for routes?

It is possible for trains too.
