the reason for the r142 running on the 3 line is because they come from the bronx e180th street yard in the bronx which is pure r142. some of these cars come from the late night 2 service and the remains of the not in service 5 line. since the 180th street yard is so small they usually run out of space to fit trains so they send them to the livonia yard thats located after new lots avenue. so they figure to mae a revenue 3 line run while they are headed to the livonia yard. 8) 8)

They were needed due to New Years.(2) crews operated those and they did a single run from uptown to New Lots and were taken OOS.

there are NO R142 on the 3...Late Nights the 4 extends to New Lots which HAS R142, and the 2 runs Local which also HAS R142

My friend lives out near Rockaway Av on the (3) and he said something about late nights he sees R-142 (3) trains everyonce in a while.I believe him but late nights lots of things happen unexpectedly due to G.O's the (3) may not have yard access so a (5) or (2) may be used for the (3) or even the (4).
A few months ago there was an emergency G.O they ran 32 (D)'s due to trackwork.(C)'s were re-routed via Concourse to Tremont and turned heading back downtown. It was a 1 night thing though.

I have friends out there too and they all say late nights, they are all (4) trains not (3)'s.

That's true.(3) only runs in Manhattan late nights and (4) runs local in Brooklyn to New Lots. But the chances of catching a R-143 (3) is slim but when the (4) goes to Bklyn Br there maybe a R-142 (3) roaming.

This made absolutely no sense to me, sorry.

I'm sorry. Its a G.O where the (4) terminates at Brooklyn Bridge loops around and goes back uptown like the (6) running via Lex Local and the (5) runs on Lex Exp terminating at 42nd St.The (3) replaces the (4) in Brooklyn so sometimes the (3) uses (4)'s or (2) train equipment.
Similar to the (5) To 149th there maybe a R-142A (5) roaming since the (5) doesn't have access to its yard in the Bronx.

Remember when the (3) Was split before there was R142's
