OpenBVE Multiplayer Extension Newtown v0.32 Released
« on: January 19, 2011, 12:16:34 am »
A minor update for Newtown has been released.  This new version includes a brand new Auxiliary server which replaces the backup server, and could potentially become the main server.  The Central Server will be offline, so please use the Auxiliary server from now on.  All corresponding pages point to the auxiliary server.  The Auxiliary server is hosted on BVEStation's supplementary servers  :D.  All previous versions are now disabled, so it is recommended you get this newer version.  This new server as usual runs 24/7.

A quick recap for those of you who dont know what Newtown is, Newtown is the latest proprietary Multiplayer Engine powering ipaclansite's OpenBVE:ME.  Being rewritten completely from the ground up offers much more stability and ease of use, compared to the original system.  No more worrying about a user disconnecting destroying the whole run, and no more random crashes on the Multiplayer side of the code.  No more trying to guess the number to see where the player ahead you is.

For more information on Newtown, please visit the ME Newtown page on the homepage's link bar, or visit here, http://www.bvestation.com/multiplayerN.php

As ME is technically not in development, it will not be updated with the latest version of OpenBVE nor will any major features be added.

Enjoy!

Expect Ultimate BVE to have a MP. I just got done with the API and will be posting a DL for developers to get a hang of the new features and start coding for the release.

I see no reason for there to be two multilayer platforms, but whatever though. The more, the merrier.

it's in the post

but where's the link?
If you actually read ipac's post, you'll see the link there, and also if you're in the homepage, there is a Newtown link... Remember, not Newton, but Newtown...

I know that. I'm just messin' with you. :P

For whatever reason, while the (F), (M), (R) and (V) trains announce it correctly, the (E) doesn't. It's like the folks at the MTA (or wherever they did these announcements) were too lazy to make sure they were announced correctly.

Jamaica-Van Wick, Briarwood-Van Wick Blvd anyone?

What's crazy about this Newtown,Newton thing is that the (E),(M),(R),(V) announcer is the same person.I find it odd tho that Catherine Cowdry decided to say Newton instead of Newtown for the (E) but she pronounces it correctly for the (R),(M)& (V).The (F) announcer is Diane Thompson who also does the (2),(A),(C),Franklin & Rockaway Shuttle and I think the (7).

Hey Kevin,

Is it just me, or is ME laggy. I ran it with the (F) and I'm getting 8-10 fps, when usually I'm getting 35-55. It's not my computer either, and I'm also getting a .NET framework error when I'm connecting.

You guys gotta remember this is not compatible with the F yet...
