NYCTA Projects / Re: (B) (D) and (N) Line Update.
« on: January 28, 2013, 07:43:17 pm »
Not sure if I'm missing something but I'm experiencing unfair speed limit penalties on the "B" line. If I enter a station doing anything above 15 I get the speed limit warning. Entering every station at that speed is unrealistic and the more I try to follow speed regulations, I'm increasingly late throughout the route. To add to this, there is a train in front of me (even though it says I'm late) in the Bronx slowing me down further and it reappears at Dekalb ave. I was under the assumption that I would run into train traffic if I was moving too fast and arriving early at stations.  At Dekalb ave the train ahead of me stopped at the end of the station and just sat there so I gave up. When I looked at the review, every stop I made had an overspeed penalty. Am I the only one experiencing this? I was playing the NTT version and operating the R46OpenBVE.

These are some of the best routes so far! Keep it up. The red signals on the "N" line are realistic and takes some getting used to for me. Hit the emergency break a couple times lol. So do they change at the last minute as long as we cruise at the right speed?

This is looking VERY good! This is the fleet I grew up on. If I may ask, where did you get your picture references from? They are the best I seen so far. I ask because I'm doing a 3D model of this very fleet but not for BVE. I'm looking for reference pics and info of the trucks.

All we need now are more IRT routes. I been playing the 2 line since the first BVE and been waiting for the update ever since.

I'm having trouble downloading the N 7z file. I keep getting a 59kb file to download from mediafire. Any ideas?

Thanks for your replies! Maybe when I'm done with the full version of this I can trim it down as much as possible so it can be used in BVE. I know nothing about BVE development at this time but I will look into the train model limitations and see what I can do. Can bump or displacement maps be used for BVE? I will update in this thread as I make progress.
Again, if anyone have truck and coupler info please share. It's the only details I'm missing for reference. Don't mean to be such a nerd but I would actually like to know how the trucks (breaking system) interact and relate with the rest of the undercarriage (electrical systems). Always been fascinated with trains.

@Threxx1: Are you saying the trucks used on the R46 are the same for the IRT SMEE fleets?

I been working on modeling an r33 (or 26, not sure). It's still a work in progress using Sketchup and Kerkythea to render. I am a fan of the old fleets and the way the NYC subway had such diversity in train designs back in the day. This is my way of keeping the old fleet alive in my world. Thought I would share it with this community. I plan on seeing if I can do something with it in Blender's game engine when I'm done. I actually wish I could run this on BVE but afraid it would be too much (large poly count). The only thing I'm having a problem with is getting some good detailed images of the trucks and couplers. I want to get as close to real life as I can and not just put some generic undercarriage. Any help in that department would be appreciated.

Did u try letting the air out of the break first before u move to B4? That's usually the problem with the breaks. Wait until u hear the air release from
the break at B5. The train should run smoothly after that. I think that is part of the safety on the train.

Thank you! Learn something everyday. I did what you suggested and I'm operating it smoothly now.

BVE/OpenBVE Support / R46 Keeps Breaking with Power
« on: January 25, 2013, 01:52:16 am »
I have no idea what's causing this but more times than not, the R46 does not operate properly. When I put it to P1, I hear the breaks being applied. It will scrape forward if I put it at P3 but then when put into neutral it comes to a grinding halt confirming that the breaks are being applied when I apply power. I was able to operate on the "A" and "F" lines with no problem a couple of times. But tonight the breaking problem showed up again on those same routes. The fact that I was able to run the whole "F" line just last night with no problem is baffling and I don't know what's causing this. I also tried running it on the Brighton Beach "Q" exp(v6) and I have the same problem. I know it says to use the 160A but I really like the R46 cab detail and not a big fan of the newer fleets. Any help would be appreciated.

Ive never had a problem with it. Until i get to Atlantic Ave then i got to wait about 2-3 mins before the A.I train decides to move. Even on the Q at Dekalb Ave, the signals
allow to me to reach "bumper to bumper" to the train infront of me.

You're driving WAY too fast then. The static train does not follow speed restrictions (cause they weren't coded in), nor the signals (supposed to be timers around that section), so ideally, you should be driving around 15 mph the entire journey across the bridge and even slower entering the portal.

There's no route errors (not regarding derailments), so just take it slow next time, and you shouldn't see this problem.

I ran into the same problem even after taking it slow. I even thought to myself that maybe I did move faster than I should have and just waited for the train to move. I wait for a long time and gave up, jumping to the station. So even if we catch up to an AI train, shouldn't they move at some point? It happened to me on the "F" express line at 18th ave but the train did move shortly after I pulled in back of it.

I was looking for the "open with" option but only get "open". I will probably wait until I get back to my real PC where I'm running XP without this problem. It's where I do my serious graphic stuff. I'm on my wife's laptop until then. Long story. Unless there's a workaround.

I am trying to do the r40 slant. I see a lot of b3d files but they are not associated with any of my text editor programs. I'm using windows 7. Would it be a bad thing to associate these files with notepad? I read that once a file is associated with a program in win. 7 it is very difficult to revert back to its original form.

Cool, thanks for that. I'm gonna try it out tomorrow. What about looking around in the cab?

I see a lot of screen shots and youtube videos that show exterior and interior views. Also I see in some videos the operator looking around in the cab. When I press the F2 and F3 etc. buttons, my trains are just white boxes including the AI trains. Am I missing something? Do I have to do something special?

Train train derailed in front of you. For some reason, there's always a problem with trains around the Manhattan Bridge route because there are no yellows and the interval train ahead of you goes full speed over the bridge and ends up derailing near the portal.

Turn derailment off and you should be good!

Thanks for the tip. Tried it and I got through smoothly. Just have to remember to take it slow down there.

Thanks, I'll try that. But I was like 12min. late so I don't know if being ahead of schedule was the problem. That train is always there every time for me.
