Title: New To OpenBVE....Installer Question
Post by: Mistro on October 25, 2011, 11:28:56 pm
First off, hello community! I'm new here.
After downloading and installing Open BVE I notice the screen to choose the routes and trains.
I downloaded the "A" line that was an installer package. Afterward I opened BVE again to see if the route would show up in the options but do not see it. I do see it in the BVE directory though. I'm just a little confused on how to proceed.

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure the route is in the RIGHT directory? (OpenBVE\Railway\Route) Double check to make sure

I see BVE/Railway/Route/NYCT-A........ I noticed you have OpenBVE/. I do not see that in my program files directory. I see BVE. Did I miss something?

It depends on where you installed OpenBVE, so I do not know about that.

This is the weirdest install I ever experienced. I'm running on Windows 7. I created a folder to put all the required downloads to get started. I followed directions from following link  http://trainsimframework.org/use/download_windows.html (http://trainsimframework.org/use/download_windows.html)

The exe is in that folder I created. My confusion now is where are the train and route folders for OpenBVE? I did not point anywhere special for install. Where does Open BVE install by default?

Please excuse my ignorance.

IIRC, you have to create the Train folder, and the Railway folder yourself, and then create a Sound and Route and Object folders in the Railway folder. Also, for future references, you need to download all the dependencies listed on that webpage (Tao, SDL, and OpenAL), which are files that need to be put in the OpenBVE folder aswell. (With the exception of OpenAL which needs to be installed onto your computer with an installer) Also, in the Route/Train selection windows, you have to navigate to the Train and Route folders manually. (Sorry that I have not told you that earlier, as it is probably the reason why you could not see the routes in the options in the first place; I just remembered that you had to do it)

As for as I'm concerned, BRR was taken offline after TSC went down

Also, that express to local is a BRR done thing, and everything is done automatically. To change the route by hand, you would pretty much have to recode a bunch of things after the switch. Just hang tight until JayJay releases the corrected version of the route.

I recommend to download and install BVE2 even if it doesn't work on your computer and you won't use it. This saves you the hassle of creating the BVE folder structure manually.

The problem with OpenBVE and many of the routes/trains is that it is packaged in ZIP format and not in an automated installer. Safer and more open source; however, not good for the novice user who doesn't care for these technicalities.

As for BRR we did have it on our site at one point, don't know what happened to it though :/

Thanks for the info bro and i will wait for the next version of the (F)

I notice I have to download some dependency files. Like the CtoEuclid.7z. Where does these type of files go? I also got a "Store" file that came with the D line package. Not sure if I put it in the right place. Is there a folder guide that explains what type of files go where?

All .7z files start at the railway directory so you just extract it to the OpenBVE folder
