r 179? the mta already bought 500 units of r 179's. how do i know this i went on nycsubway.org and looked up the order form from Kawasaki. its nothing really special they are using an old design from the r11 that was never used in the 60's and the design is for the exterior. they are going to begin again with the old cushion seat design that was used on early trains. you know when the cars had soft plush seats inside that's what i was talking about. but the mta is also ain't gonna use the r 179 for the c line. the r 179 are going to be used on the b and d lines. for the c line there going to use the alstom built r 175 trains. i heard its going to have the same design as the r 160 but a tad bit different. all the seats are going to be facing forward like a commuter train. but that design was just a sketch from alstom they say its going to look like the r160 the r46 and the r179 built together. i don't know when these cars will be released but they said the r 179 will go to the aging d and b line fleet while the r 175 go to the broken down c line fleet.

the r 179 is going to look like the r 160b combined with the r 68a. and what you said about the r68's your wrong i like their acceleration its fast. the only problem is the braking and and the beginning of the acceleration that all the cars smash into each other. other than that the r68/a are one of the premier rolling stock used on the subway.

Wait Alstom was awarded the R-179 contract?!! The bidding and award is supposed to be next month for the 179's.
Also the (C) will remain 8 cars but be extended to '600 supposedly meaning the (C) will be 68/A while the B/D get the 179's but its too early. Also R-46's are supposedly gettting retrofitted for SI.
@Haven the R-68 propulsion is similar to the 44's.And the R-68/A's are great cars they're just the slowest with all that weight.

what do you mean slow the r68. i rode an r68 to queens on the n line and i tell you when that train entered the east river tunnel that baby got up to 80mph. lol now i don't know if it was an r46 because they look alike on the inside. all i know is the r68 when it enters a tunnel under the river those trains go fast like hell!! lol and the regard to the r179 alstom did not get the r179 contract its just a rumor that's going about. i said alstom got the r175 contract.

Impossible. Once a train reaches a certain speed (~55 mph), something kicks in and it will slow down. I forgot what this mechanism is, but it's a safety feature. So, just because the train is going fast doesn't mean it's running at 80 mph.

Slow acceleration for R-68/A due to weight but when they get going they run decent. And I don't believe an R-68 hit 80mph maybe 60 but not 80mph.And that's the fastest tube in the system trains can reach speeds of 60mph+.
And there there is no R-179 rumor. It is TRUE no one has been awarded the contract YET it is supposedly be awarded next month. It can be Kawasaki,Bombardier,Alstom or whatever train company but the favorites are Kawasaki and Bombardier due to their experience(R-62,R-62A,R-142,R-142A,R-143,R-160 and the M-7).
There is no R-175 that's a fictional BVE train.

Are you sure? I mean, if it can then why are trains being capped at ~55 mph, and how can they exceed that limit to 60+ mph? (I do know that an R68A N train went over 55 mph, so that's why I said ~55)

The only train that's speed capped is the R-160 and that's 55mph although they are capped it doesn't mean they can't exceed 55.And the tubes its downhill from Astoria to 59th-Lex once the T/O clears the last timer 9/10 that train will hit 60mph+ unless an (R) crosses in front. With the average T/O on the (N) operating a R-68/A they'll hit about 63mph-66mph and with a 160 they'll hit between 60 and 65 b\c its a downgrade.

I highly doubt this..AFAIK the R175 is supposed to be a shop equipment contract, the R179 is most likely going to kawasaki, the MTA will never go back to using any type of soft chairs on the trains and arranging the chairs in a commuter train-style is unpractical for use in the subway as there will be no room for standing and loading times will be much longer and much more troublesome.
the R179 will be a 60 foot car similar to the R160 and will replace the remaining R42's at ENY yard and the 32s and 44s on the A/C.
the D will not be getting any new cars soon as long as it will be at concourse, I do not expect concourse yard to give up their R68's anytime soon.
of course nothing in the MTA is set in stone, but that's how the word has been for quite a while now..

Ah as a Train Operator for the E line and potentially becoming a TSS in June (which stands for Train Service Supervisor) and part of the R179 Planning & Design team, let me say that this is the most ridicolous rumor and lies I have heard. First off, I don't know where you got the information from NYCSubway, but if you got that from there then that site is full of shit. Second off, theres NO R175 Revenue Service order - theyres no such thing except in the BVEStation world (unless that's what you could be talking about). Third and lastly, the R179 order hasn't even been given a builder NOR hasn't even gotten a train assignment listing yet - why would they pick line assignments if they didn't even make it yet (COMMON SENSE) AND it's for 290 60' cars (with a option of about 100-150 more cars) that will look identical to the R160. So do me a favor and basically all of us a favor and stop giving information that you know is not true. Thank you.
