Hello all,
I would like to know the basics of creating a replica cab for use in OpenBVE, and specifically in my northbound (T) 2nd Ave Line route.
What programs to use? Tips and tricks?

I don't know if you got my PM but i use, Photoshop CS6. Before i got PS i used some free alternatives:
Gimp:

However, The most important part is getting a cab shot. If you're lucky, some train operators will let you take a cab shot or two if you ask at a terminal station, just don't expect them to let you in all the time.

How about using SketchUp? Unfortunatley, cab shots will not work becuase this cab will be entirely fictional. But I will try out the other software that you suggest.

I would not recommend using Sketchup to draw a 3D cab. Instead, design it and save it as a 2D image using a graphics editing program such as GIMP, Paint.NET or Photoshop as Mr Railfan said.

However... you could make a 3D cab in sketchup and convert it to a .b3d file and use it as a 3D cab.

When not one person is willing to list a valid detailed procedure,
one must scientificly vet that converting objects from google sketch up into BVE form
has not truely been performed, is not possible at this time, and is "urban myth"?

Sorry I don't know the exact procedure, but I know it has been done considering the existence of the R46 exterior and the development of the NYCTA work locomotive.

If i recall, The proper method to go from sketch up to a usable BVE model is to export it to Blender (http://www.blender.org/ (http://www.blender.org/)) and then export it as a CSV file. There might be another step, but i don't remember. The only problem is that a creation in sketch up, when exported for bve use, will contain too many polygons and will not be playable. The R46 is a special example because it was fine tuned and had many, many polygons removed from it, so that it will be playable.

It does seem that "Manuel 18" has discovered a method for
object conversion from 3DS Max into openBVE B3D format with very good results!!

Manuel 18 notes his method as this order:
> open object in program 3DS Max, then save/export to .3DS file format
> open .3DS file in program Milkshape 3D and repair texture issues, then save/export again to .3Ds format
> install Blender v2.46 (later versions do not work) and Blender-BVE import-export script from

to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Aplication Data\Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts
> open .3DS file in program Blender v2.46, then save/export to .B3D file format with above script
Any one who may try this method, please do report your results here.
We may see if this is the alchemist formula for converting lead to gold!

I've discovered long time ago, but there are issues already.
My first Shinkansen S500 had Already.
I'm going to Create a "Tutorial, because its a LARGE PROCESS".
Remember, i'm not the first one who really did it!.

Yes, a tutorial will be very welcome and useful in working through the details of object conversion.
Your 3D driver looks very good and is a primary breakthrough for openBVE, this could also be used for 3D passengers!
Can you animate his arms with the power and brake handles?
May be he could speak swear words when passengers are slow to board, LOL!
I do wonder the effect on FPS for converted objects?

Are you overmind! ? , that is insane!, Its impostible animate them!, i can't imagine the infinite Rotation and Translation movements to do that!
Talking about FPS, could be a good idea make them , Passengers Sit and on foot, but will be very poor detailed!.
