how do you record manual announcements
« on: October 08, 2011, 09:03:15 pm »
I wanted a D local train to grand street and made it myself for myself but the two different
announcements from both the D and the B are annoying me so I prefer to record my own
announcements I just don't know how to do that

Use this, then export as WAV into the appropriate sound folder.

Do you have a microphone on your computer?

you can use your phone to record it and then transfer the audio from the phone to the Computer and edit it there.

If you record it using your phone, unless if your phone records in WAV or MP3 format, you'll have to find a software to convert. If you use your ipod to record then you will have to find a converter (try using YouTube downloader, http://error46146.bvestation.com/sounds/DLfromYT/, follow step 7 onwards).

Personally imo to save yourself the hassle, just go buy a mic for your computer, they cost $10 at J&R; it's $10 well spent.

Lol guys he wants to use his voice.

Simply go into the Sounds folder in your BVE folder you will see the sound files there for the desired route. Simply replace the files with the exact file name you see in the sound folder, with the ones you recorded. And that should work. Make sure it's .WAV. With iPhones or most phones it comes out in .AMR or .MP3 so you must convert it either online or with an application.

From what I've noticed, the Apple earphones work as mics in the same way. If you plug the earphone into the Microphone jack, then speak into the earphone speak, then the computer would treat it like a mic and you could record your voice like that.

Perhaps you can try it out, because I've only tested this on my own PC

Yes headphones can serve as a makeshift mic, however I wouldn't recommend due to the poor sound quality..an actual mic will give you much better quality
