Interior/Exterior Views in Game
« on: November 08, 2011, 12:19:21 am »
I see a lot of screen shots and youtube videos that show exterior and interior views. Also I see in some videos the operator looking around in the cab. When I press the F2 and F3 etc. buttons, my trains are just white boxes including the AI trains. Am I missing something? Do I have to do something special?

The train must have an exterior installed. If ut does not, it just shows up as a white box

And just in case you are wondering how to apply exteriors to trains yourself...

I am going to use the R62A as an example.

1. Go to the Railway\objects folder.

2. In the search bar, search for "R62".

3. Get any .b3d or .csv file you want and open it with a text editor.

4. Throughout the document it should say "Load r62aside.bmp" and "Load r62afront.bmp" and/or something similar.

5. Search for all the images that are listed throughout the B3D file (Yes, all the exterior images you need should be in the objects folder aswell), create a new folder in the train folder and call it "cars", and copy and paste the B3D file along with all the images into that folder.

6. Open up Notepad (or any other text editor) and write down this coding:

[exterior]

0 = cars\*name of the B3D file here*
1 = (same as above)
2 = (same as above)
3 = (same as above)
4 = (same as above)
5 = (same as above)
6 = (same as above)
7 = (same as above)
8 = (same as above)
9 = (same as above)

So basically just write in "cars\*B3D file name*" for all the numbers.

7. Save that file as "extensions.cfg" into the train folder, and you are good to go with the exterior. Hope that helped

Cool, thanks for that. I'm gonna try it out tomorrow. What about looking around in the cab?

The cab also needs to be coded in. You can use the one from the R160 Siemens as an example

If the train has no exterior, the default exterior (the white boxes) will be there.

I am trying to do the r40 slant. I see a lot of b3d files but they are not associated with any of my text editor programs. I'm using windows 7. Would it be a bad thing to associate these files with notepad? I read that once a file is associated with a program in win. 7 it is very difficult to revert back to its original form.

Just right click the B3D file and click Open With, then click Choose Default Program, and select a text editor. Nothing bad will happen, don't worry

I was looking for the "open with" option but only get "open". I will probably wait until I get back to my real PC where I'm running XP without this problem. It's where I do my serious graphic stuff. I'm on my wife's laptop until then. Long story. Unless there's a workaround.

1: Learn to use punctuation and grammar. Your posts look like they were typed by a 10 year old.
2: We already told you how to add an exterior view to the R40. Please read what we post.
