Thanks to newly released, high resolution images of the original R46 P-Wire controls, Harry Daley-Young and I are pleased to be able to offer you guys an updated Pre-GOH R46 with the P-Wire control console operating in "Regulated Mode". As opposed to the traditional manual control with switching, series, and parallel notches, regulated mode has specific speeds set on the throttle, and advancing the controller forward to a specific notch will cause the train to accelerate to the desired speed on the notch.

In this video, I run the train on the A line from Euclid Avenue to Mott Avenue - Far Rockaway. Enjoy, and stay tuned for an updated R44 Pre-GOH with the P-Wire regulated operating mode =)

Welcome to the main event of my Wednesday-before Thanksgiving 2015 railfan trip: 12 friggin' hours at Princeton Junction (6 a.m. to 6 p.m. [Sunrise @ 6:52 a.m. & Sunset @ 4:31 p.m.]) on the Northeast Corridor. I manage to stay from sunrise to sunset without a single issue. The surrounding geography also makes for great horn action and doppler effect.

My main focus on that day while I was there was to capture all of Amtrak's stopping services (which I did) and at least most of its passing services (of which I only missed 2) All clips were shot with my Apple iPhone 6 with the 60 FPS setting on. More information in the table of contents, as there are over 100 trains in total. Enjoy =)

Transit / Alstom Wins Amtrak Acela II EMU (HST) Contract
« on: September 21, 2015, 04:16:26 pm »
http://www.schumer.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/schumer-announces-amtrak-is-set-to-select-hornells-alstom-as-part-of-25-billion-program-to-build-safer-next-generation-high-speed-trains-senator-says-project-will-create-750-jobs-including-400-direct-manufacturing-jobs-at-alstom-in-hornell-

Quote
U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today visited Steuben County to announce that tomorrow the Amtrak Board of Directors is expected to select Alstom as the train provider for a $2.5 billion program to build the Next Generation High-Speed trains that will create over 750 jobs, including 400 jobs directly at Alstom in Hornell. During Schumer’s visit, he explained that while the final details of the contract still need to be negotiated, the Amtrak Board of Directors is expected to give the green light needed to move forward with those final negotiations exclusively with Alstom. This impending decision by the board paves the way for Alstom to build the next generation high-speed trains that will operate on the Northeast Corridor and is a monumental victory for upstate manufacturing. According to company executives, Alstom anticipates such a contract would create approximately 400 jobs in Hornell and potentially an additional 350 or more across the rest of New York. With more than 750 jobs expected between the Alstom’s Hornell facility and the ripple effect this massive contract would have throughout Upstate NY, Schumer said it would be a win for the entire Upstate NY economy.

Tired of bouncing around like a loose cannon on the original NEC route for Railworks Train Simulator 2016? Then you are in luck. I have managed to isolate the rail stability code (special thanks to Brandon Phelan) and have lowered the instability value to such that the ride over the rails is now smooth at high speeds. This has been done in preparation for the long awaited and highly anticipated release of New Jersey Transit equipment DLC next month (October 2015). Read on for more details:

This is the Train Simulator 2016 Northeast Corridor (New York - Philadelphia) Track Stability Mod

In order to utilize this freeware route upgrade, you must have purchased the Northeast Corridor Add-On pack available at Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/65232/

This is a freeware pack; in no way is it to be used for commercial purposes. You are free, however to further modify the physics enhancements found in this pack for personal use if you so choose.

The purpose of this pack is to correct (lower) the amount of track uneveness (which results in a VERY bouncy ride at high speeds). Default line uneveness was set at 50. It has now been lowered to 8.

IMPORTANT; Install Instructions

1. Open the Northeast Corridor asset pack until the directory reads "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\RailWorks\Assets\RSC\NorthEastCorridor"
2. Then open the "Railworks_Northeast_Corridor_Track_Stability_Mod.rar" file.
3. Drag the file folder from the .rar file and into the directory you opened in step one..
4. Overwrite if asked.
5. The installation should be complete. Run TS2015 to check.

Thank you for downloading and installing.
Enjoy =)

So today  (7/18/15), I had the chance to visit the Shore Line Trolley Museum up in Branford, CT for the first time. Here, I show you the operation of R9 1689. This is my first time operating, so cut me a little slack if not every aspect is perfect. The video is a little long, so I will give you some time markers below. We manage to hit 25 mph on the return trip on one of the straightaways before the yard limit, but the track quality lends to a lot of truck hunting at that speed. I really do suggest that if you have the time and money, that you try this out. It really is a fun experience and you do learn a lot. Enjoy the ride =)

Table of Contents (can you find my "Shave and a Haircut"s):
0:00 - 13:00 (shunting out of the yard and setting switches)
13:00 - 20:00 (outbound run)
21:00 - 38:10 (inbound run with pole directional changes and switch setting; we top 25 MPH on the straight section of track just before the yard limit).

The remainder of the video is RFW footage. Only the outbound trip ended up being viewable, as the camera on the second iPhone ended up screwing up the focus setting, but I have kept the inbound RFW footage for the audio factor. Credits to my mother and father for shooting this footage while I operated. Enjoy =)

One thing to note on the R9 at least is that inserting the B2 pin will decrease brake response/application times dramatically. Notice how for most of the run, I have the brake in the service application position for a good bit of time before the brakes start to grab, but as soon as Lou inserts the B2 pin, 1.5 seconds in the service application detente is enough to bring the train to a jarring halt.
