BVE Routes/Trains installer
« on: April 19, 2011, 07:31:13 pm »
i've noticed how the routes and trains are packaged in an .exe file.
as you see, i mostly use my Mac, rather than my Windows pc.

question is, would it be a good idea if we had installers for BOTH Windows and Mac OS X? because i don't want to have to turn on my PC just to install the routes/trains, then transfer to the Mac.

i know the majority uses Windows here, but i'm pretty sure i'm not the only Mac user here.

AFAIK nobody here knows how to make auto-installers for mac; for now you will have to use the zip files provided until someone figures that out

In addition to what Bill said, our Zip files are in the .7z format, therefore, you will need 7 Zip, which does work in mac to unzip these.

I don't know about you, I've been using WinRaR unzipping your .7z files with not problems what so ever.

Same, but I don't know if WinRAR works on the Mac

This is the reason why we have the non-fictionals packaged in 7zip files.  They are there specifically for cross-platform compatibility for you users who dont use Windows.

For mac you can download The Unarchiver, http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html to extract the 7zip files.  Supposedly it can do some exe files that are packaged as well.  So this may help.  Also available in the Mac App Store, so you know its good.  :D

i just noticed i DO have a program that allows me to create installers for Mac OS X. it's bundled as part of the Xcode developer tools. don't know if this will be a good idea or not if i create the Mac OS X installer versions. could take me a few days or weeks though.
