Title: New NYCT Objects Pack
Post by: TJay1724 on March 28, 2011, 11:42:17 pm
What's up people? I'm currently working on and putting together an object pack that will be free for use by all developers. This pack will contain, updated underground and station rails, switchbeds for underground, cementbeds, ballast and el tracks. It will also include vintage objects such as elevated tracks and platforms and some buildings. This pack will include updated elevated tracks, platforms, tunnel walls, switches columns and anything else I can think of. Below are some screens. Some of which will be featured in JayJay's D Line and Culver Shuttle. Let me know what the community thinks. Object suggestions for this pack will be greatly appreciated. This pack will be available for BVE 2/4 and openBVE compatible png objects.

TJay
Screens: Cementbed, Modern Elevated with platform and side, New Switchbed, Underground Station and Tunnel Rail, Vintage Elevated with platform and side, Vintage Elevated under the trackbed.

Looks great!  Are you going to make transition tracks from say, station to tunnel?  I've experimented with those in the past, but I never finished working on them.  They shouldn't be that hard to make since your just putting a gradient from light to dark.

Yep.  The picture doesn't really show it since its just overlapping, but its getting the idea.  There should be a smooth transition from light to dark when approaching the tunnel.

Just a quick update. The development of the object pack is still ongoing and will be available soon. I've added a new track set for underground tunnel and station portions and a new underwater tube. Some tunnel walls and a column set based on JayJay and BStyles work. Just a reminder, this pack will be available for both BVE 2/4 and openBVE. I have also successfully created custom animated NYC signals for openBVE only. There will be underground and elevated signals and I am currently working on flashing signals as well as timed signals and animated speed posts like you would find on some signals in the system.

Excellent b\c we really need realistic time signals. The one on the LUL routes are SICK I mean they clear good at the right speed limit most of the time.

Lol. Yes it is Simon. I just can't figure out why some other developer's screenshots of their routes look so crisp, but I'm getting a blur. BTW, does anyone know the full commands of openBVE Route Viewer? I would like to know how to look below the rails and move the camera higher above the rails, like you can with Track Viewer.

Thanks for the info Pacific. I just want to let everyone know that I have successfully created timed signals for NYCT openBVE!!!! I'm currently tweaking the time delay. It works based on distance from the signal. For example: if the delay is set for 5 seconds, and the distance is set for 50 meters, the timer starts when the train is 50 meters away from the signal and will clear after the 5 second count. More info soon.  ;D

So the signal will be Red then clear to yellow then a quick change to green or it will be a Yellow followed by a red quick change to green? There are a few timers that do that some clear quickly from r-y-g and some are Y and clear to G and some clear straight from R to G.
Title: Re: New NYCT Objects Pack
Post by: TJay1724 on April 22, 2011, 01:59:06 pm
At the moment, I have the signal clearing from red to yellow to green. But the change from yellow to green isn't instant like in the real subway, there is a slight half second delay I'm working out. There will be timers that go from yellow to green and from red straight to green as well. So far I have the single 3 aspect signal and the double 3 aspect signal. i.e. Green over yellow and vice versa.

Try this:

Click the Region button above the pause button, then click on fixed region then type in what size you want where it says Width and Height.

Tjay's new elevated track textures will be used in the D line and some of his underground track will be used in the D, but his tunnel walls may be used in B line not the D due the D being far into development

I was attempting to make a video showing the timed signal and auto announcements playing as soon as the doors open, but CamStudio is pissing me off. It recorded only the sound but no video. Anyway, the first object pack is nearing completion. I have the custom signals and timed signals and I'm listing them as beta for now, but they are all fully functional and I'm in the process of creating all the signalling NYCT has, underground and elevated, standard and approach. This will take a little time as there are many different variation combos of NYCT signals. Thanks for everyone's patience.

Shouldn't be bad implementing them on the (C) for BVE the new version since the entire line has RFW access.Newest one is outside Franklin S/B I believe.

As I have stated in the update, the first pack is almost done and should be ready to go soon. I just have to make the earthen embankment, concrete viaduct like you see on the 7 line, and some portal approaches. I'm calling this the essential pack. Next will be the open world pack. Basically that will include things such as COMPLETE surrounding scenery such as whole city blocks with multiple buildings of different sizes and designs, trees, parks, animated objects for openBVE, station canopies, revised bridges, people and so forth. The custom signals for openBVE WILL NOT be included in the essentials pack due to work still in progress on those, but will be released as a stand alone pack soon. Stay tuned and thanks for all of your patience and support.

With BVE 2/4, more than likely but it shouldn't be by much. I've eliminated all unnecessary faces from my objects for that reason. With openBVE, not at all. I am still achieving 60 fps with these objects.

Just a quick update. I have just 2 more objects to go and the pack should be released by the end of this week. I had a little scare a few days ago when my development system wouldn't load and I couldn't get to the pack, but now all is fine and I have the pack backed up in 7 different places and my development system is working again. I was thinking about putting together a little demo route showcasing the objects and the custom signals with timers. What do you guys think?

Basically they work on a delay in conjunction with the length before it.  For example, the timers in the file by default is five seconds and the timer will start when the train reaches 40 meters before the signal. I have it set at 40 meters. So when your train gets to the 40 meter mark before the signal, your trains speed should be around 14-20 mph. Once the timer expires, the signal will turn from red to yellow, then to green. If you time it right and have your speed adjusted accordingly, the timer will clear to green just before you pass it. There is no penalty for passing at red as openBVE only sees this as an animated object and does not recognize it as a signal, though it is placed with a signal command and functions as a signal.

Question. Could you have it setup for different speeds? Also, there is a way, but the train also has to have a plugin, which the R38 has, to trip the train if it passes a red.
Title: Re: New NYCT Objects Pack
Post by: TJay1724 on May 08, 2011, 04:45:48 pm
I've attempted to do different speeds, but anything over 5 seconds and for some reason the signal will not display properly and by default, it can't be anything lower than 5 seconds. The timers are still a work in progress so I'll see what I can come up with. As for the trips, as you said the R38 has the plugin, if the train does not have the plugin and the route file does not have the correct beacon coded into the file, it won't matter. The train has to have the plugin, and the route has to have the correct beacon command for that to work.

I've actually tried this concept on the E in the East River tubes myself resulting in failure lol but good luck! I'm looking forward to see how you did it!

The trip function on the R38 works exactly the same as on the London underground northern line route because it uses the same plugin as the 1995 stock train for BVE 4.

Yes, I know that. However, the route also needs a code in order for this to happen.

I have successfully simulated repeating signals. I know everyone wants to see videos, but I cannot make them for some reason so instead all custom signals will be displayed in a demo route shortly. For those of you who know how to make videos, please feel free to do so once the demo is released. The repeat signals are regular signals just customized for the left instead of the right and coded to function the same as a regular signal. For example, if you have a standard signal on the right, I placed the repeat signal on the left 5 meters before and have the code in the file set so that both signals display the same aspect and will change to the same aspect at the same time, thus simulating the repeat signal effect of the NYC subway.

I have successfully simulated repeating signals. I know everyone wants to see videos, but I cannot make them for some reason so instead all custom signals will be displayed in a demo route shortly. Hey TJay if you want I can demo the signals on the Riverbank Park Shuttle. It already has simulated timers so your signals would be a great addition

An update: The first object pack is COMPLETE. I will be sending it to ipac for upload soon. The signals will follow after as there are a lot of them. So far I have 17 signals at this point and I have created a 2 Shot GT and a 2 Shot ST-GT. All underground automatic signals and Home signals are done. I am now putting together all Timed underground signals. (1 Shot GT, 2 Shot GT, 2 Shot ST-GT, 1 Shot ST, and all Timed Home signals) After those are done, I will be doing the same signals for the outside, elevated portion of the NYC subway. Screens of the signals coming soon. Stay tuned.

Almost forgot, there will be 1 Shot GT's that can be apprached at different speeds. I figured that out. FULL Instructions on how to use and place all the signals will be included.

looking good. cant wait to see these in routes. it will add alot of realism to it. but the thing you said about the penalty passing it. how will it not penalize you if its a signal? its impossible to pass a red signal and get the error and points taken off message.  :o :o ??? ???

if it's not registered as a signal in the openbve program, it will not count towards your points.
Title: Re: New NYCT Objects Pack
Post by: TJay1724 on May 26, 2011, 11:33:04 pm
Exactly. As error pointed out, openBVE just as with BVE 4 does not view custom signals as registered signals. Even though they function as signals, they are still basically read as animated freeobjects. The reason why you get penalized in the British routes for running a red or taking a yellow too fast is because all of their trains utilize plugins and the routes have beacons. Without those, there are no penalties.

The demo route is for everyone. It's nothing fancy. Just walls, rails, and platforms to display the signals.

Great pack Tjay

The E is in the process of being resignalled now however with the tunnels. Would it be possible to stretch the roofs out a bit on the tunnel objects so that it covers 2 tracks as seen below?

In the object pack walls & dikes folder there is an object named exproof. I built that to cover the express tracks. You can set it like this:
.Wall 0;0;5, just an example.

Just a little comment about the demo route:

I personally don't like how the trains swing from side to side on the demo route. It would be better if the motion were not as intense.

Also the swinging causes the flanges of the train to constant screech. It is really annoying.

Besides the swinging, I love everything! There is so much detail and precision! Amazing job TJay!

Lol. Thanks. The train swaying is because of the .Accuracy command. I have it at 4. You can lower the rate to either 3,2, or 1.

There is a new RBP which takes advantage of the new object and signal pack.

TJay,

This is work of true quality which will do the community a lot of good. The good thing is, developers can use this as mainstream dependency, and then the route essentials can be other folders. I'll be using and enjoying this. Great work.

Regards,
-Jose.

That depends on the performance of your computer. Development is starting to move on, both in the quality of the routes and the quality of the content.

I've been seeing a lot of photo realistic station walls in screenshots lately, most of which have custom names on them, but look as if they are real. Does anyone know how to do that and where I can get those blank walls for both the IND and IRT?

I'd also like to add to this pack. I noticed that on one of the London Underground routes, there were animated trippers. I think its time we had our own.

BMT/IND:

IRT:

In conjunction with the Beacon command, these should work nicely.

It's not just that, but the route needs to be modified to use them. You can't just pop a group of objects into a folder and expect the objects to appear on the route unless the route is looking for them.

And depending on your filesystem, case sensitivity may be an issue.

Put the "NYCT Objects" folder into the OpenBVE\Railway\Object folder. Ignore the folders "BVE2_4" and "OpenBVE" inside the "NYCT Objects" folder, just put the entire folder into the main object folder for OpenBVE
