Can Someone Please Teach Me to Make a Train
« on: August 24, 2015, 08:30:39 am »
Hello BVEStation. I would like to make trains for openbve, because I really want to make an MTA Maryland light rail train and some others. I would ask other developers, but people are busy on other big projects. I do not know much coding, Is there somewhere I can learn that's not OpenBVE Wiki? If you have the time and are not doing anything else at the moment, great, but If not, I will try my best to do it but I probably will not.

Look on the wiki and for sketchup tutorials if you plan to use that program. Those are the only resources most of us had when learning, except for people that went on TeamSpeak for development classes, but I don't know if those are happening right now. Start out by doing sounds, physics, etc, and worry about an exterior later, as that can be the hardest part for somebody with no experience.

Is it ok if I use your sounds from the Kinkisharyo LRV for an MTA Maryland light rail?

You shouldn't d that considering I would have to double check permissions with the original developers. The sounds are also low quality, so don't expect to get much out of them.

If you've fully compiled the train.dat file using TrainEditor (or Notepad) for that matter, read the wiki to learn how to create panel configuration files and name default sound files.

I want to make a 2d cab, what does the panel configurations do and does it require coding? Because I can't code.

Check out the exterior prototype for when I make the exterior. I did use Sketchup.

You have to code the components of the cab. Try looking at other cabs and learn off of it

Not bad.

The panel config determines the properties of the panel and images/indicators used. None of us were able to code at first. You have to get your feet wet if you want to have a panel in there.
