Title: How to achieve better FPS on OpenBVE videos
Post by: [CT1660] on November 21, 2011, 04:48:43 pm
-On Windows XP:

-On Windows Vista

-On Windows 7

In most cases, the fancy visual styles tend to create lag when it comes to 3D games. Most important, the Aero experience on Windows Vista and Windows 7 tends to hog up some video card space, and by disabling aero with the method specified above, it may result in better FPS.

For me, disabling the aero experience on my Windows Desktop resulted in MUCH smoother gameplay for me, and better framerates for recording OpenBVE videos VIA Fraps. Results will vary depending on hardware configuration

Did this way back with lower-end computers that I've owned.  Now that I'm more financially stable, I was able to get a higher-end rig and don't need to run like this anymore.

I actually do this in order for my souped up rig to play at max settings!

Well, my rig is souped up and it's already playing on max settings without taking out aero features.

If you have a POS system, then this would help, but don't expect something like a jump from 10 fps to 60 fps. Something more of the lines from 10 fps to 15fps is more plausible.

Also, I can throw up several hundred FPS if I ever needed to, but the tearing in openBVE is so bad that I need to turn on VSync and limit the game to 60FPS.

It mainly has to do with the fact the main processor is a Pentium 4 HT 630 (The late LGA775 model)

Well not to be rude, in this time of technology age, a Pentium 4 would not consider the rig to be "souped" up.  I did say I have a "souped" up rig, but considering most of the new stuff that are coming out or just came out, I can say my rig is getting to be out of date already with the Core2 Quad and such.

I'm referring about similar systems of the same processor type.

I am planning on investing on a Core i7 motherboard and processor bundle, however.

LGA 2011 and Sandy Bridge E is a big waste of money. Unless you are at home all day ripping BD movies, you don't need those Sandy Bridge 6 cores. My i7 2600K is perfect for me now.  Wait a few months and lets see how Ivy Bridge does.

Also, anything LGA 775 isn't really up to date.... and openBVE doesn't take all that much to max out
