found Penn Station

Completely unusable. I would suggest making your own models instead of using the Google 3D Warehouse.

They even created the lower concourse levels. That's got to be well over 20,000 polygons, almost twice as much faces if it were converted to BVE format. Not only that, Old Penn Station was demolished in 1964(minus the tracks and platforms) and was replaced with the current Madison Square Garden complex. You'll have to dig through 47 years of of archives to find enough information(if the city didn't demolish it, then there wouldn't be a problem).

That model cannot be used for OpenBVE. Period.

You've got to be kidding me....

OpenBVE has been on the internet for almost three years. A new forum, and everyone seems to forget the amount of OpenBVE breakthroughs that went on in time range. It makes no sense archiving work when no one looks at it....

Ddatrainman, i'll need you to PM me later on. there's something I want to show you that might ease your truck work.

Hah! Yeah....

The side looks good. I think the first set of doors are a bit larger than the others, but it's fine. I know that getting these textures weren't a walk in the park. Keep up the good work!

Well, then I guess it'll have to be converted to meters. That shouldn't take too long. Looking very impressive.

its a little more complicated than that.

In the simplest of terms, a 3D modeling program can open up a b3d file made for BVE, but BVE can't utilize b3d files exported from a 3D modeling program without some hand coding in the b3d file itself.

Maybe somebody with a little more experience can explain in further detail, I don't do objects so I can't really help you beyond this.

Yeah it can. How do you think I got the bulged roof on the R62?

Before you make too much progress on the model, make sure you build it in meters. If you continue to build it in feet then it will probably come out microscopic in OpenBVE.

You could send it to me when you're finished with the model if you want and i'll convert it for you, but if you want to do it yourself then you will need everything posted below:

-Sketchup(Any 3D modeling program that exports .3DS will do, but I recommend this).
-Blender.
-Python(version 2.6 and above). Install into C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender
-This BVE Exporter plugin, found here: http://www.bve-exchange.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2681 Install in "Plugins" folder in Blender directory.
-OpenBVE(Of Course).

When you're done with the model, export it to .3DS(which the pro and iirc the free versions should be able to do). Run blender, import the model, and then export it again to .b3d(given you have the plugin installed). Save it to some place you will remember, and then open up object viewer. Your model should be right there waiting.

-A word of caution. Exporting to .3DS triangulates faces, making one square face two triangular faces. This helps when curving objects and for small details but then it tends to increase the poly count(number of faces on an object). The 160 model I have currently has 14,320 faces. If you want an efficient object make sure not to add too many details that will potentially slow down your game or others'.

NYCTA Projects / Re: Official Thread for nycta Queensbound F

Great job on the (F).But I want to point out a few things.
1.The (F) doesn't stop that close at Jay Street same as the (A) its about 30 feet from the 10 car to the tower in the route the (F) is right on it.
2.East Broadway there's an escalator going up nearing the end of the station.
3.The (F) doesn't stop that close at 2nd Av and is there a possibility we'll see a control room on the side?
4.York street isn't the 3rd rail on the platform side due to the clearance b\c of the way the station wall is? Samething with High & Fulton on the (A)/(C) but I could be wrong.
Overall (F)antastic route.

How can the route be fantastic if you have issues with it? These kinds of statements never made any sense to me, but whatever. Honestly, they're trivial and irrelevant issues. The route was coded accurately, using subway track maps, and besides.

Ok, back on topic, whatever the developer does to the route is at their discretion, if he feels like implementing any changes then he'll add it. The routes won't be a %100 like the real thing anyways for security reasons and limitatons.

Can that be stressed enough?

Sometimes I wonder if people actually deserve what they get. Honestly speaking, after a few years development did you want the line out or not? We can't remember what goes on en every single station of the route we're working on, and that's why we have dedicated people to acquire this information prior to release.

And another thing. I can easily see if the line was 100% done and it was something we could release in say, a fix. In case you haven't noticed, Jay Street wasn't even re-branded in the F route that was released FOUR DAYS AGO. And since the author is still working on the route from Stillwell to 179th, and has been for some time now, it's clearly visible that time wasn't going to wait for the route. At least a hundred other things have changed on the F since development, which will hopefully get done by the time the line is fully released.

Bottom line: the route ain't done, so just deal with it.

Happy birthday, Daniel. 16, huh? I bet you can't wait to get that learner's permit. ;)

Just don't go too crazy with your birthday and enjoy every moment of it. I know it's cliché, but you only get one 16th birthday.

Graffiti is considered to some as an art, but growing up I never liked it and I will not endorse it. It may look good on the trains, but for the ones that had to live through it, sit in it, ride it to work, etc. it was not a happy time.

I saw the videos on YouTube of the graffiti laced trains and I must admit, we have it a lot better now, with the newer stainless steel SMEEs and NTTs. If you want to keep it on the train then that's your choice. It's considered vandalism, but it was also a focal part of our past.

Anyway, the R30 exterior could use some work, but since it just started i'll spread my best wishes.

Getting back to the original two questions...

There will be a route/object building class hosted by blueblitz20, so if you're interested please refer to this topic: http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=274.0

A photo editing program is a photo editing program, and whether you like it or not it still serves it's purpose. I find GIMP to be much easier than all the rest, but I digress. Here are some suggestions, and you're welcome to choose any that works for you:

-GIMP
-Paint.NET
-Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 3, 4, or 5
-Windows 7's Paint(Which is like the ghetto Photoshop but if you don't have Windows 7 then disregard this)

I hope this helps.

It's still a Google Sketchup model(the conversion process is tricky, but can be done), and from the looks of it it looks like it has roughly 300+ polygons. I wouldn't use it, however, until the original author grants permission. If not, then it's squashed.

Half of the model is made out of PNG images which use alpha channels to make the trusses, railings, etc. transparent, so it would appear is if it is intricate object work, mostly like what we do here. But like Ray said, it still has too many polygons to ever generate positive results on most computers.

Still, it could be used as a basis for much more objects along the Northeast Corridor route.

Unfortunately, people don't stop driving their hoopties just because there's snow on the ground. The ones that have heavy duty trucks help sanitation by using their own equipment. Here in New Jersey, we got about two feet of snow so my only ride into the city was cut off. I didn't even bother going up to NYU today...

Stubborn people like test the laws of nature when its been proven that they can't beat them. It's just the way of life.

Transit / Re: Imagine if this happened on a crowded subway train
« on: January 27, 2011, 11:08:14 pm »
I love how the people stood there as if it weren't any big thing. Suppose the train, god forbid, made a crossover or hit a bump in the track?

Well, seeing as the door sensor failed it just goes to show that MTA will do anything to get rid of these cars.
