Other Projects / Fictional (8) (9) (10) Line
« on: November 14, 2017, 03:31:43 pm »
GOOD AFTERNOON BVESTATION!

Long time but silent member here.

Been in the shadows working on a project for the better part of 7 years now.

And guess what? I need y’all help and wanna get y’all involved. Iknow we got some good, creative developers in this group and I want y’all to use y’all talents.

So, quick background on the project at hand:

I’m developing a fictional IRT route, the (8) (9) and (10) lines. For now, I’m working on the (9) portion of the route, which travels along Webster Avenue in the Bronx, Madison Avenue in Manhattan, and along various streets in Brooklyn. The map will be provided later.

Skeleton work is about 40% complete, as the tracks and platforms for the entire Bronx portion has been completed, and 79th Street in Manhattan.

That’s where you guys come in: I need station walls. Since this is an IRT route, I’m gonna need IRT style mosaic station walls. I’m going to list the stations that need walls and what kind of station they are (local or express).

If you’d like to submit a station wall object to me, message me here or something lol. I will decide which one I will use based on quality and appeal.

Of course you will receive credits for the objects under the Creative Commons License.

For now we will focus on the Manhattan portion. When we get to the Brooklyn portion, I will do it again.

Manhattan stations:
125th Street - Express station
116th Street - Local station
110th Street - Local station
103rd Street - Mt. Sinai Hospital - Local station
96th Street - Express station
86th Street - Local station
79th Street - Local station
72nd Street - Express station
66th Street - Local station
59th Street - Express station
50th Street - Local station
Grand Central - 42nd Street - Express station (this station will be laid out like 34th Street - Penn Station on the 7th Avenue Line, so Local Station walls will be needed)
34th Street - Local station
28th Street - Local station
23rd Street - Local station
14th Street - Union Square - Express station (this station will have a 2 over 2 layout, so Local station walls will be needed)
St. Marks Place - Local station
Houston Street - Local station
Delancey Street - Local station
Canal Street - Local station
Worth Street - Express station
Fulton Street - Express station walls
Wall Street- Express station walls

Thank you for y’all time. I look forward to seeing your work.

It's been a long time since I posted in this thread. It's also been a long time since I even did work on this project, or even been on this website.

As a guy who likes to finish what he starts, I almost feel obligated to continue this line. And although it's gonna go against my better judgment, I'm going to share with you guys what's going on, and may even release the project on this website.

Few things I'd like to get off my chest: In my humble, personal opinion, this site, fanning itself, routebuilding, they are ALL nowhere NEAR as fun as they used to be. Maybe it's because I've grown in the 4-5 years I've been on this site, and others who have grown with me feel the same. I'm a college student, like some of the admins and others. And I also work, like a lot of you. Look at the recently banned BStyles, he's overseas in Guam exploring the other side of the globe while serving his country. And he's only a year or two older than I. Stuff like that makes me wonder what the hell I'm doing with my life. Making train routes? Twig is living his life the way he wants to, and doesn't seem to stress himself about railfanning at all. Rayvon is back and forth on here, and who knows where the heck Joe is. LJ is doing what he's always been doing, getting high grades and high salaries. Imanuel is just doing him, typical cases and rib-breaking stories of Manny being Manny (Red Sox fans know what I'm talking about).

There are days when I feel the lore of being a railfan, and there are other days when I'm ashamed to even consider myself one.  And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Who knows, maybe I'm just bitter. Maybe we're all just bitter. BVEStation had a good run, 5 years of innovation, friendship, and pride. But all good things must come to an end, as it is the end of an era as we know it.  Some of the guys from that era have been banned, others just decided to try other things. But whatever, it's all for a computer game right?

Case in point, I'm going to try and give it my all to try and complete this line or get as much done before I go back to school at the end of August. Be on the lookout

It's not real life, that train is too perfect

At 126 stations total, your route easily holds the record for most stops on a BVE route. :P

In all seriousness though, you might want to split this route somewhere because I can't see too many people spending all day running this route from end to end, especially if it's a full local route. Right now, this route is set to be more than twice as long as the (2) or (A) local lines. Mind you, I'm not trying to discourage you or any other route builders or their creativity. This line is just a bit too long in my opinion to be an enjoyable route.

I second this

Station Talk / Re: WEATHER ADVISORY - Hurricane Irene

They didn't jump from I to K.  We already had a J (Jose), but it was tracked as a Tropical Storm.

This is according to the 2011 Data sheet from National Hurricane Center's website.

It died out quickly, right?

Just a word of advice, use more current objects. These are beyond old

My prayers and hopes go out to all of you guys who have the potential to be affected by this hurricane, and if you have to evacuate, please just get to safety.

I'm kinda half and half on this, because as New Yorkers, we don't get many hurricanes, so I can understand why people are freaking out. Who knows, it might not be all that bad. But still, take no chances.

It must not be BVE compatible then

10
BStyles would you like to put this on my R143

You must not have heard then...

Would it not be a no brainer to update the Lefferts branch also?(just my point) if the entire (A) will use new and updated objects/textures.

Not necessarily. I don't even know myself and I'm in on the development of the route

I would assume there would be a updated Lefferts version also.

Never assume

It's been a while hasn't it?  ;)

Anyhow, I'm back to posting recordings I've come across, but before I start posting new announcements, I figured I'd update the ones we have already.

Today's update: the (F) to Jamaica-179 St
added correct and/or better sounding transfers to the following stations:
  • Jay St-MetroTech (LN)/(OT)
  • 2 Av (LN)
  • Broadway-Lafayette St (wkdays)
  • W 4 St-Washington Sq (wkdays)
  • 14 St (wkdays)
  • 34 St-Herald Sq (wkdays)/(LN)
  • 42 St-Bryant Park (wkdays)
  • 47-50 Sts/Rockefeller Ctr (wkdays)
  • Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av (wkdays)/(wknds)

You can download the individual files here or the zipped folder here.

Also, on a slightly off topic note, I was wondering how the developers would feel about me fixing the route files so the automated announcements play when the doors open rather than when they're closing.

They have to modify the station time I think.

Yes. It depends on how long the minimal time the train stays in the station is, and it also depends on the train's door opening/closing system. If the train is coded to have the doors open and close automatically or semi-automatically, the announcement will play while it's closing. However if the train is coded to have them open and close manually, then the announcements will play and then you can close the doors, like on normal trains. A good station time is 10 seconds

Yeah but the people who asked me to help want to be taught. So it's like route building
