Hurricane Sandy Update Thread
« on: November 03, 2012, 12:06:49 pm »
11/3/2012 - Service restored on the full routes of the (4), (5), and (6) lines because of Con Edison restoring power in Lower Manhattan.  They should be running at 10 minute headways, and the (4) and (5) will be skipping Fulton St because of power issues.  (5) trains will run to Flatbush Av.  As of this time, the Clark St, Joralemon St, and Rutgers St tubes are reported to be pumped out; the real issue appears to be in the Cranberry and 14 St tunnels.  I think I heard that the 53 St tubes are almost done, and I've seen a picture of the Cranberry St tubes almost empty.  South Ferry has probably been fully pumped as shown in the MTA video, and I don't know the status of the South Brooklyn BMT lines, which may take longer.

I'm also curious about Lenox Terminal and the (A) above 168 St.

(7) is also going back to Times Sq now.

I'm also curious about Lenox Terminal and the (A) above 168 St.

The (A) can't go above 168 St because 200 St is flooded really badly. 207 St is as well.

And to add to that, the (A) is running Local, so it would be kind of hard for it to go past 168 St to 207 St.

I think we should expect the (1)(2)(3) to be up and running soon.  The Daily News says that the (1) will turn at Times Square, and therefore I'm assuming the (2)(3) will run local, at least below 42 St.  I think there'll be (F) service through Manhattan and some Manhattan/Williamsburg Bridge service next, too.  The article says that the (A) and (R) trains aren't ready.

Just wondering, what trains are running on the (A) line right now? R46s, R32s or a mix of both?

I heard that there were 2 R46s at 207 St that got completely destroyed.

I heard that as well, but there is no definite proof... hopefully someone can confirm it.

Wow.  That would be really bad for the B division which already has a bit of a shortage.

I'm hoping that they can get some sort of (3) service ready for Monday rush hour.  I can hardly imagine what the crowding would be with just the (1) and (2).  Maybe they can run it to 137 St if Lenox Terminal is still not ready.

Wow, look what I found on the MTA's flickr:

Looks like there've been some R62 (4) trains in Manhattan and the Bronx.  Maybe it's just the first few trains, but I wonder if the R62s could be running on the (4) for the next few days.

If the (3) is still suspended its possible for the (4) to be running those 62's for a bit longer.

Update: I'm hearing that the (2) and (3) will be normal by Monday, and the (D), (F), (M), and (J) may receive normal service tomorrow on Sunday.  By Monday, (1)  trains are supposed to run to Rector St, and the (A) to Lefferts should be normal.  The status of the (R), (G), and (L) trains is still unknown; apparently the 14 St tube is filled to the ceiling with water.  South Ferry and the Rockaway Line will take a long time.

11/4/2012 - the (2) and (3) are normal now, and the (1) is running to 14 St.  The (D) is running between 205 St and Bay Pkwy.  The (J) was restored to Essex St last night.

Always check the MTA Photos page, on Flickr. In the core city around Lower Manhattan, they were the hardest hit by the storm.

As I type this, R32s are on Cross Bay Blvd on flatbed trucks heading to the Rockaways for Beach 116th-Far Rock shuttle service.

Some R42s have been transferred to the C line to fill in for the R32s moved to the rockaways.
