NYCTA Projects / Re: (WIP) Official Update Thread for the R44

See, this is why I encourage you to get into developing, because everything you just said was redundant.

If the underbody had been 3D, like I just said, then its proportions would have been just right. The reason for that is because the wheels are needed to be visible, so the vertices of the faces that are textures are applied to are raised a bit, creating the small underbody problem(which in actuality, raises the entire side texture which is never really separated from the underbody, and makes the doors higher than the platform), which is another reason why they should be 3D objects(I did the same thing with the first version of the R62, so I should know).

Gong Gahou is right though. I just skimmed through my texture library for a moment, and noticed the small differences in the truck textures. but that is very small, and I can swap out the R62 truck textures with that of the other SMEEs at any time, depending on the model(since the entire truck model is made primarily out of textures). I'll see about converting them sometime.

BStyles

I got you on that.  Since the wheels are 3D, everything else should be.  I could get started with the 3D objects when Mr. Railfan sends me the new textures.  Can I send you the R44 so you can throw on the R62 trucks and see how it looks like?

I'm curious as well. I hope this will feature whirrling motors!

By the way, I'm concerned with the exterior. The undercar seems way too small in comparison with the rest of the carbody itself. The wheels and the axel seem way too small!
The doors also seem to hug the edges of the train far too much, when there should be a small gap between the edges of the window and the edge of the train. The door image used as the animated object also stands out with the rest of the car. Seems more like an R160 door instead of an R44.

But great work nevertheless! The panel looks great!

MY COMMENTS ARE TO BE VIEWED AS CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM!

The only modification done under the body was cleaning up the black graphics and make the axels and boxes "appear", then adding and aligning the wheels Andrew sent me.  So under the body remained untouched other than graphics cleaning.

This is the same wheels and axles on a side angle.  Is that looking better?

@ Shawn1995, this train is under construction.

Gauge light completed.

Adding a full lighting to the pressure gauge when the door light comes on was not possible because the new lighted gauge image overlapped the needles. (Hmmm....I'm going to try using alpha channels  ???). So I made a ring light instead, so that the needles can still be seen.  I also corrected the issue with the green light and fixed the speedo.

Thanks guys and definitely, Mr. Railfan.

Make everything blue (transparent) except for the light and gauge.

You don't have to put a background photo for the gauge - you can use the door light bmp as  your gauge background.

That's what I did.  This is the conflict I was talking about:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I think it has to do with the digi speedo in bewtween EDIT:  the problem IS the light to dark transitions.  It works well in other routes that don't support light/dark.

the brake pressure lights up.

I almost forgot about that, that has to get worked on. Thanks for pointing it out!

Edit- Just tried adding the gauge light by extending the door light pic and putting the gauge light to the end, it works but with a problem... between the speedometer there's a conflict.

No problem. By the way, I can find you a good motor sound recording if you're still using the stock nycta motor sound. I can wait a few extra days and drive an R44 with a sound-realistic motor, if you haven't included it already.

The sounds I have were recorded by me and these are final for this project.  Thanks, anyway.

Wait...what I would need is the sound 2 train master inquired about in the old thread- "when the person wraps it up(max power) it hits that knob and makes a sound".  If you could help with that, that would be great!

The second picture makes the cabview way too high

Joe

It doesn't look so in any of the NYCT BVE routes.  This is a European route I tested the train on, for light and dark lighting.  ;D
They both look high to me obviously b\c the entire panel can't be seen. And can you trim the cab pic a bit by cutting the left side at the door handle.

In OpenBVE (dunno for the previous versions), but you can zoom in/out, pan left/right up and down.  I designed nearly a full cab view, where  the important areas are necessary to see.  Using the up and down keyboard arrows, you can pan around.

Also remember, this is a European route, not NY.  In NY, this train doesn't look so high because maybe the developers of the European routes do a different job for their type of trains.  I mean notice in the second pic, the station appears pretty low.  They could have elevated it just a little for some realism.  I haven't encountered one problem using my R44 (or R40) with a NYC route.

That looks really good man!! One thing I want to point out that I see missing is the lightup enablers on the dashboard. They should be like a dim yellowish color. When the button is pressed by the T/O the light goes out when the doors are closed and locked it goes back yellow. But some R-44's had it kind of like a bluish/green.

So, those should have some light in them?  I can fix that before sending this out.  Thanks for pointing that out!

Will this include the exterior and sound upgrades from the original? looking good!

Definitely.  The sound has been totally improved.  I will be uploading a video later that will demonstrate the features this train has.  It is exciting to have animated knobs and a horn, as well as working wipers and JayJay's 3D interior/exterior trainset.  More will be seen in video footage.

Actually I should try that out.  I have goldwave but hardly use it because its not as convenient as Sony Acid.  I used Acid Pro 7 (demo) and I'm comfortable with it, now just need to purchase it.
