For the R68 that would  be kinda tricky as there aren't too many places that they travel upon that has that type of track..my suggestion would be to use a recording of the 7 train between 33rd and 46th (R62A sounds similar to the R68 anyway)

I'll be updating the track sound standard soon btw with a more complete list

that would work with a bit of sound tweaking. Keep in mind that the distance between the trucks is different between the R68 and the R62, leading to different sounds even though the trucks are the same.

Slow down the run sound basically for the 68 lol

Well, with all the recent talk about "Something that's been bothering me", I've decided to start on the R68 and put off the R176 for now. With other news, I deleted the wrong folder and lost the work I have, but I have the older version of my train to work off. That will be no problem since I can improve more.

In addition, Mr. Railfan offered to do the panel for me.

Thank you

Ouch you should had sent the file to your helpers so the main person won't have them only.I recorded sounds for the 68 last week but I think I put my camera too close to the door and it sounds like too much bass. But I'll check on my computer.

I went downtown today and recorded some R-68 sounds and I caught the same set I recorded last week which was 2636 I believe and that motor sounds good but the train was crowded so I don't think it came out well but I got some door chime and brake release sounds. When I get home later I'll upload the recordings & send you some sounds I'll cut them out 4 u.

Not bad...love the howling motors lol

when you record, make sure  you sit at the end of the cars above the motors so you can get a good motor recording.
i like to record on cold winter mornings since 1) no hvac unless your on a 160 lol and 2) nobody's talking in the mornings

Thanks and thats exactly where I was.But the 1st recording from 183rd to Bedford I was at the end standing up and had the camera near the door.Yesterdays recording I caught the same set it was in the C/R's position 4th car S/B and I was at the end and sitting down so that one came out better. But maybe this should be a secondary R-68.One with regular motors and 1 with a howling motor.
I also have radio recordings and an idle recording but they're too big to attach here(both under 2 MB.)

A Few questions that need to be answered.

1) How many of the routes being developed will follow the NYCTBASS Standards?

2) Can anyone help me with the placement of the run sounds?

Sounds great! I know the sounds came from underground, but it's not like openBVE can allow us to have two sets of sounds, so I'm okay with it.

Something on the D train thread made me curious. Nothing offensive, but I want to ask - what is it with the R68 and the howling motors? I actually prefer a quiet R68 over the howling ones any day. I can't understand why there's so much hype with the howling motors - unless you guys associate a howling R68 as one on the D and the quiet one as one on the B. Enlighten me - I would like to know.  :)

But I was not asking for what causes the motor sound.

Just use the NYCTBASS. All of the routes currently don't follow any sort of guidelines for sounds as Run0 plays for both underground, el, and open cut sections, plus errors train and the trains that were recently released I believe follows the NYCTBASS to some extent.

By the way, that howling sound is unavoidable because you can hear a portion of it in the Run sounds, which unless you are skilled in sound editing, it would be a b to take out. That's what happened to my 68.

Not really. For the NTT's(R-142 thru R-160) when the train sounds like its howling means somewhere in that consist the motor is dead and you would notice if the propulsion is low or appears to be dead.
And Westinghouse original motor sets have a good howling many have been changed to quieter motors.

@Pacific: I'm not sure if you're using my R-68 sounds but if you are I would gladly like to get another or more recordings for you.
I can and wil get a regular R-68 recording and one with howling motors.I was thinking I can record from Coney to about 36th or Atlantic then I'll record Bridge recordings and cut it once I get to Grand St.I won't mind getting another underground recording also.Just let me know b\c I know where to go and when to do things. If you would like a regular recording on Brighton I won't mind just let me know I got a lot already.

And what is the difference between flange0 and flange1?
isn't really much of a difference, it's the sound the train makes running through a curve

Here are the sounds I have so far:

Where would I classify the CPW Run Sound as? Run0?

Run0 is correct. All of the CPW tracks are underground concrete.

How much would I have to speed up or slow down a R62 Run Sound (Run2 - Elevated concrete (7) between 33rd and 46th St) to use it for the R68?

depends on how fast it was going, try 64000 kHz in Audacity and see how it comes out

I've decided to restart the project. This time, instead of going for the hard (exterior, interior, animations) stuff, I'm starting with the easy (Sounds, Train.dat info) Stuff.

Here's a small preview:

Openbve (Teaser) - R68 loop and some other sounds preview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_QRK_TKMCY#ws)

Here's the new "loop" sounds
Once I get all the sounds in place, I will start fading the sounds (as zerobeats suggests)
In addition, I might need somebody to help me fix the volumes of all the sounds to match once I'm done.

R68 Train update: Version 1 will be released in less than a month. In this version, the sounds will be updated with a chance for a new panel.
In version 2, there will be a new exterior and interior. A new panel is definite by then.

In version 1, there won't be an exterior. In the final, there will be one and it should be as good, if not better than the R44

Work on version 2 has started. A new roof has been put in

New things:
- Curved Roof
- Roof textures (Courtesy of BStyles)
- Transparent Windows

Things that are not final (as seen in the photos):
- Top roof texture, the ones on the sides are final.
- I'm sure you see 5804. That is the number of a R46. I will change it to 2804

Things to add in the exterior (basic)
- Front of train, make the roof round
- User suggestions

After this, I will start the interior of the train. The starting point for the interior has not been determined at the time.

Looks great, but I hope you know that my exterior is a 68A one. 68As are generally more shinny than the 68s and the wrinkles on the cars are different. I gave Randy my 68 textures, so maybe you can collab with him on that.

Are you starting from scratch with a new .csv file? Would be a shame to code in .b3d or recycle old stuff.

I'm not the best at .csv coding. However, with the recent BVE5 release, I will release the version for openBVE. After that, I will work on coding with .csv for BVE 4/5.

Note that you will also have to add the horizontal silver bar between the side rollsign and the window if you want to change it from an R68A to an R68. Also, it will have animated doors, correct?

I noticed that something like that had to be added to it, didn't really think much about it though, I'll check everything that I might need to change though. Here's the answer to your question:

Title: R68 Train Remake by Pacific385 ~ Final Update.

I am not happy to announce that I am ultimately dropping this project. There are many factors that led to this but all led back to one: Lack of motivation. In addition, I also believe that I won't be able to deliver something that Me, You and any random person can be satisfied. If anyone would like to take over this project, post here and I'll send you everything (if you want) from where I left off.
Thanks

(BTW The current status of my R176 is: Currently Active)

Uhh.... no and Pacific, I think it's not a good idea to publicly send it out to anyone in my opinion you have the major developers who could do a better job than the ones who "drool over the thing" in my opinion PM me later I'll handle the details and ask one of the train developers. besides we have Mr. Railfan. I'm not trying to sound rude but this is hard work at steak

That's true, I'd hate to see the files handed over to an irresponsible person. When I said "i'd love to take over" I meant if I was more devoted to this and I had more experience. The level of experience I have right now is not high enough for me to take over. I have a question by the way. Has anybody heard about the program called Autodesk Inventor? Can you make a panel in 3D and take a picture in BMP format and just make the file for the panel and will it work?
