Now because im in a good mood i want to give you guys some more preview pics of the cab in action  ;D.

Isn't Pacific385 creating an exterior for the R68?

He doesn't necessarily have to use Pacific385's Exterior. Iirc Pacific said that he was making his own panel.

IIRC, Mr Railfan was doing the panel for the train and I'd take care of the rest of it.

Nice! Finally, a realistic R68   :D Will you also make a 2-car version for the new Franklin Avenue Shuttle that is in development?

You can easily mod it to a 2 car. Make it full length. When its released PM me and I will help you make it 2 car.

Once again im not developing the Actual train Exterior/Interior , im still deciding on which developer to give the Cab too so they can apply/create an exterior/interior to it. But i will make sure that the final product release will have Multiple car assignments like a 2 car for shuttles , 4 car for the G train and a 8 car for regular routes.

Ok great, but considering that fact, will the different consists have the respective rollsigns/destination boards? Like, for example, the 2-car shuttles will have a grey (S) on the rollsign, the 4-cars will have a green (G), and the 8-cars have a selection of (D), (B), (N), etc.

Well with some coding technology we can make animated roll signs for it.

well i was thinking of just putting in animated rollsigns so you can just scroll through the destinations and routes like coneyislandDFNQ said.

If you guys need photos I'll be glad to get that stuff next week. This should be a combined project of 68/A using the same panel just a few minor differences the interiors can be the same except for the storm door(for the cab) and the exterior can be the same.
I can get recordings.Let me know.

I need you guys to be more specific new roof texture? end cab texture more audio recordings.

If this is a combined project the noticeable things must be the storm door the braking/accelerating and propulsion and other sounds, everything else can be the same.

Yea a useful sound the 1st 15 sec that I noticed my self is the T/O indication that the doors are locked and closed.(It's a click sound then the door indicator should light up in the cab as you can see in MrRailfan's cab shots). That adds realism instead of just hearing the doors close.

Thanks the one thing that stood out to me was how well my camera picked up the T/O's indication.ALL SMEE's have that sound from R-32 to 42 then the 62/A,68/A.I'm unsure about the REDBIRDS and the 44's/46's don't have that click

As orion has stated , im very busy . Im currently working on something big apart from train building that im not going to comment on now but it also has slowed the development by a bit. I have updated the cab a bit but nothing too major . im still waiting for someone to make a proper r68 Exterior and this train will be ready to go . regardless of whether it will have an exterior or not, im planing on releasing it When Jay Jay Releases the Full D so you will have a proper train set to run the route with.

Since all my other routes are shutdown until I restore my files I will be back in NY on Saturday, Emil is it possible that you can help me with fitting Simon's exterior if he's down to releases them to me. I will be doing some training on Train Building so this could be good for me. I know most of the basics.

Text me or email me. Same for you Simon if thats all right with you.

It's got a few flaws (mainly cause its a 68A  :P)

Broadway Riders must feel like s* when they see 2 of these roll by before seeing a local.

Thats damn good though! Is it possible it can be a bit more dirty. The 68A's steel are more shiny just like the rest of the Kawasaki fleet has more shiny bodies 142A over 142,68A over 68,62 over 62A and 160Bs over the 160A's.Other than that its good!

If Pacific could make the seats bigger and actually cover the exterior it would be better. The YouTube video he did with the (G) R68 looked like a comics paper cut out. (no offense). The seats were way too tiny but if he could make those bigger and actually make sure that peope can't see inside the car from the gaping cracks in the train we would be excellent

Exactly. What I was hoping for is that it would look something like the new R44/R46 exterior. But remember that that video is from last year, he must have made it better since then!
Title: UPDATES !!!!!!!!! - R68 OpenBve [Cab Preview]
Post by: Mr Railfan on August 05, 2011, 11:23:19 pm
Sorry i didnt post in a while , ive been busy and didnt want to make a post until i updated the train. Well i think im done with cab now , ive fixed the positioning , Made sure the cab was slanting the right direction [if you dont know what im talking about look at the first pics i posted and the one i just posted now ] and ive also made the Nightime/dark panel so if you go into most 5th generation routes you get that dark cab.
I might apply some Cosmetic changes to it from now until the release of version 1.0 , Im still trying to get this out around the time jay jay releases the D .

If the D is released and i dont have an Exterior then i will release the train without one.

here are some pics:

Yes yes , its going to be released really soon. 8) Right now im Equipping Simon's exterior and doing some small cosmetic changes to it. Afters thats done im going to take one more look at the physics and sounds so that the train is perfect.

Also Please note that this train [Version 1.0] will not have Changeable Rollsigns But instead will have it set By default to the D . A Later version will include rollsigns.

From what i understand pacifics exterior isnt finished yet so thats why we are using simons exterior. Pacifics exterior will be used in a later version when it is finished.

I'm not trying to rush anyone, but it seems everything is pretty much done. PM me when you release the train and it's available for download. If you need I can go take pictures of the different rollsign destinations and bullets on the R68. It makes it a little more realistic than the destination/bullet surrounded in black instead of the darkish gray real rollsigns have.

But the rollsign is planned to be animated, and that would be a problem. Unless we could put the rollsign itself under a translucent surface  that looks dirty like it is in real life, and have the rollsign still animated anyway

We can and will. It's easy to do it.

Sorry if I'm a bit late on the news here, but I have come up with a list of suggestions for things the next version of this R68 should have (Panel and sound-wise) None of these are neccesary, they are just suggestions:

-Controller popping up and out of deadman when the train is in emergency (Similar to what the old R32 by Straphanger32 has)

-Animated horn button (If possible)

-Visible reverser (Even better, an animated one, and EVEN better, with sounds, similar to what the R38 has)

-Compressor sound

-Howling motor

Again, none of those are neccesary, they are just SUGGESTIONS.  ;)

-I have updated the controller so it pops up when you hit emergency . This wasnt implemented in the first version because unlike the old Controller pictures used in r32 , the new one uses a Power controller and brake controller. to get the Controller to pop up i needed to apply a static throttle in the Up position [when its in emergency] to the brake picture when its in emergency.
so if you can make some sense out of that then it takes much more work then it did in the old days.

-I will animate the horn button

- i added in a visible reverser

im not a sounds guy so the updated sounds will be done by someone else

Well, the V1.0 pretty much already does, but it just needs a  better motor sound (howling). And perhaps some better Run sounds too.

Honestly the train sounds like shit the main focus was obviously the cab I think it was a RUSH-release b\c of the (D) line sure it'd be a better operation with the 68 equipment but there was good stuff available also plenty of SMEE equipment and a kickass 160 by Bill.
I contributed several 68 sounds and I think they weren't used b\c no one knew what to do what them(meaning they weren't good enough) or wasn't easy to put on the train.

My likings:
Cab 10/10
Exterior 9/10
Front/Face 9/10
Horn and sounds 4/10

Now I live out the city I won't be able to contribute but be more of a pain in the ass on the forums.I do appreciate everything.

Well, this version of the train WAS rushed to get done, mainly because of how unexpectedly quickly the (D) Line got finished and was released. But the next version of this train will be better, don't worry. (And it could definitely use a new motor sound and run sounds though...)

Thats called full service braking. When the brakes are at the maximum setting, the T/O can let the Power Handle up without the emergency brakes going off.

I have never seen any T/O pop up the power handle on a two handle car when the train was moving in full service braking above 5 MPH. There is no point in creating what would be a finicky plugin-driven feature for a mundane action that isn't even performed in real life.

It's like feeding a giraffe gold leaf-topped Black Caviar, it's possible, but nobody does it. So why have Zoo Tycoon simulate giraffes eating gold leaf-topped Black Caviar?

I'm not sure if the (C) has new crews but the Summer pick before the Charlie was infested with 46's T/O's both guys and females would pop up the controller at the C/R board then sometimes regrab it(you'll hear a bunch of air) then about 5 they'll pop it again. That was a good crew though because they operated the 32's well.
Actually take into consideration the detail that was put into it. How about you guys contribute some better sounds and e will decide to plug them in or not.
I did and theres still no change. The many cons this train should be taken down because it'll get worse it should be a community preview and the next version should at least have better sounds or a interior.I would gladly like to post the contributions although they may be low quality and if I don't then I think Simon should have some backups.

Fox179 had a bunch of nice contributions including a spot on air sounds. I was going to ask Pacific and Railfan to postpone the release so we could look into better sounds, plus I wasn't happy with the exterior either. The community is right, and this was a VERY rushed trainset.

Hey Mr. Railfan, do you know how to make 3D panels? Or do you know anybody who can? I can obtain really good pictures for the R68A only. Unless the B gets some other trains lol (excluding the R68). Also, i'll take a picture of a real brake handle and some of those keys that hang from the reverser when the T/O puts his key in. I'm just volunteering for pictures and someone should take advantage of this.

I downloaded the latest R68 for OpenBVE version that was available. I like the truck package upgrade. Really fits with the car. I then proceeded to modify the propulsion sounds and tweak the train physics. The result is much more realistic Westinghouse propulsion that I am willing to send the code and the proper sound files to the main developer for incorporation in the final release version. I'm always happy to help when I can. Here is the video showcasing the modifications that I made to the train:

The updated version of the R68 has been released:
http://openbveconnect.com/download.php?view.150 (http://openbveconnect.com/download.php?view.150)
The only major glitch I found was the incorrect number of motor and trailer cars in the .dat file for the 2 car version. Just change the motor car count from 24 to 6 and you will fix the problem. Otherwise, the only other issue is that the roll sign changes are a bit too fast, but that's my personal opinion.
