Title: R30 OpenBVE [Official Thread] + Preview
Post by: Mr Railfan on January 23, 2011, 12:33:19 am
Well guys this is my 3rd project that i am currently working on and wanted to give a little preview :

This is a split project,  that DeAndre Walters and Me are Working on.

This project will consist of 4 Different schemes [Blue/Silver] , [Red/Black] , [Olive] and Work Car [Yellow/Black] . This will be a fifth Generation train and will work with any 5th generation BMT/IND Routes.

There is no release date on this project but a beta will be out in the non to distant future . This project may also be slowed down by the R62a project that i am working on .

Also please note i may make a different cab for the Work car and [Red/Black] Schemes

Also that little annoying paper where the break control valve is will be edited out. it just basically shows the dates the train was last used and some notes on its condition.

If you guys are excited about this project be sure to check out my earlier project about the R42 if you didnt already

yes , all of my projects will be for openBve due to my computer not being able to run bve 2/4 [yes i know there is a number of help topics on how to overcome this , but i just dont want to go through the hassle ] i also like openbve's interface better then Bve 2/4

I wasn't saying this is bad, I just heard it was banned... I didn't know it was only on Joe's routes... If you look at it from the 70's then yeah all the graffiti would be accurate, and even for the 80's...I really wanna see this train make good progress as it's doing now

Graffiti is considered to some as an art, but growing up I never liked it and I will not endorse it. It may look good on the trains, but for the ones that had to live through it, sit in it, ride it to work, etc. it was not a happy time.

I saw the videos on YouTube of the graffiti laced trains and I must admit, we have it a lot better now, with the newer stainless steel SMEEs and NTTs. If you want to keep it on the train then that's your choice. It's considered vandalism, but it was also a focal part of our past.

Anyway, the R30 exterior could use some work, but since it just started i'll spread my best wishes.

well these previews were taken of an early version of the exterior that i sent to Dtrain . i have updated the exterior and with the help of andy we implemented rollsigns . as for the graffiti scheme i wanted to do that to give it a more retro feel as we got a couple of routes coming out taking place int the 70s/80s .im also saving that for last as i want to work on the redbird and olive schemes of the train first .
i will post some updated pics of the exterior and panel soon.

We??? LOL Just kidding, just kidding. Don't get upset with me please. Btw tomorrow I'll start/finish the side rollsigns. I'm looking to use the 5 and 6 keys to switch between the north and south terminals respectively since the 7 and 8 keys are used already. The side route sign will use the same key as the front route signs.

BTW Does anyone know if the JoeKorNer signs are open source? I'm tired of making signs from scratch...

dont worry bout the signs themselves , ill create them if JoeKorNer's arent opened sourced , just worry bout the coding . Btw i hope you dont mind if i modify them a bit to make em look more realistic ....

That graffiti side took me an hour and 15 mins to crop, edit and paint It still needs work BStyles,
I dont endorse graffiti I just thought it would look nice on this train, showing the phases.

The side looks good. I think the first set of doors are a bit larger than the others, but it's fine. I know that getting these textures weren't a walk in the park. Keep up the good work!

 Hello people,
This is really good to see everyone participating in this project..I myself deal with MSTS but i starting messing with my models again and have been out of the loop..But did make or rather Altered some of my own Subway cars for OpenBve that i made early last year.. These are just for my personal use cause there are too many people to contact for permission for" this" and "that" so i keep these to myself.. i have to admit those are really good trains . if you want to work with us on this project or my r42 project just pm me . I need an interior for both projects and you have one . We are creating a new exterior though with a curved roof and puting in Moving rollsigns .

Looks great! But I think the ceiling still needs a bit more detail, I am wondering if it will have the fans and the grab holders. Also, a question about the panel, I am guessing it will have the same controller as the R33WF? Since they are just so similar

Yep. i hope i can make 3D grab holders, and to find a good ceiling texture. also there's a chance i may put in 3D stanchion poles

Yes the ceiling and the grab holder will be added in. i need to visit the museum in the near future so i can get more textures . And the funny thing is that the R33wf uses the controller from the R30. The one on the 33 was just slightly shrunken down.

Is there a possibility of the train having a curved roof (can't really tell from the pictures if it's curved or not) and a more detailed under body? If not for the upcoming version, maybe the next?

Great progress by the way, and I can tell that this will be a fun train to drive.

Mr. R&R, i'm just wondering, how did you get the pics for the R33WF's cab? Do you ask the employees at the transit museum for access to the cab to get pictures or use some other technique? Or am I completely off.

This train has the third rail gap feature implemented. Whenever it crosses a gap, the interior lights will blink, like the real-life one (as long as the route has that coded in).

This  train may or may not have headlights, which the visibility of the beams will vary depending on the brightness settings on the route.

I still need to give the interior some final touches (aka more photorealistic interior textures), and add the poles and such, and the MTA Silver/Blue version should be done in a few weeks (and the Olive scheme if we find a good side view pic)

After that, i will work on the interior for the redbird version, as well as the work car version.

Anything else, Mr. Railfan and Ddatrainman will announce. I am just in charge for the interiors.

Just a few peeks at the interior, around 50% complete (the ends of the seats will have a replacement texture for the proper color):

That's not bad, it just needs to be a darker shade of green, and then it can be easily worked on from there.

For added realism, part of the .b3d file is being redesigned so that the storm door is recessed from the ends like the real life counterpart.

Looks great, but it could use better seats though since those are very outdated. The R30's had pretty much the same seats as the R32 (And all other cars that had those seats) except they were that red-ish color.

Should i get the seats curved? not sure if that would penalize performance on some systems.

The anticlimbers thankfully doesn't use that much polygons

I don't believe curved seats should affect the performance, Mudwrestle's R32 seats are curved, maybe you could use those as a base for the R30 seats. But it would be better if you just used photo textures from the transit museum

I don't believe curved seats should affect the performance, Mudwrestle's R32 seats are curved, maybe you could use those as a base for the R30 seats. But it would be better if you just used photo textures from the transit museum

I'll probably wait till Mudwrestle gets online, i already have the new seat textures, they're just not applied yet.

(i also happen to have taken over 450+ photos for textures...)

Just a minor update...

Replaced the old seats with curved seats. Still a bunch of textures to convert so that they are the proper R30 seat textures.

This train is still being worked on slowly.

Still in the process of adding curved seats, and then to make the ceiling texture.

Updates/Pictures are looking good! Can't wait to see the train in one piece. Although there aren't as much classic routes to run with this train besides the 1969 Franklin shuttle. But it is, what it is. Keep working hard there :D

*cough* *cough*

I've rebuilt the exterior from my R16's exterior, and so far it's starting to take shape!

Gotta adjust the textures and objects to align properly

Gonna redo the hand grabs to the proper R30 ones and modify the ceiling to the proper R30 ceiling.

Now that the R16 is almost complete, expect to see massive updates and screenshots regarding the R30 in a few weeks!

Gotta dust off the spiders and finish as much as i can...my goal here is to make it as FPS friendly as possible while not affecting quality...

Just lower the Resolution of the texture and stop using the R46 truck that take a lot of FPS.
