As some of you may know, in real life, on locomotive hauled trains, i.e, Amtrak, NJT, the brake system is set up as an Air Brake with Partial release, (equivalent of old AMUE system in the NYCS). And, in real life, the dynamic / regenerative brakes are actuated based on the the air pressure in the brake pipe.

However, in OpenBVE, if you set a train's brake system to the AB w/ PR setting (which is indicated by the value "2" in the "brake type" command in the train.dat file), the dynamic brakes do not operate. I have identified the source code file in the program that dictates how trains operate under certain settings. It is the "TrainManager" file, found in the "old code" -> "OpenBve" -> "openBVE" -> "SourceCode" -> "BVE" -> "Program Files" -> "C Drive" (or whatever drive you have the BVE directory installed.
But the problem is, I am having trouble deciphering which lines of code need to be changed, and how many need to be changed, at that. So far, the only specific section I have identified is the following:
Quote
// deceleration provided by brake
         double pressureratio = Train.Cars[CarIndex].Specs.AirBrake.BrakeCylinderCurrentPressure / Train.Cars[CarIndex].Specs.AirBrake.BrakeCylinderServiceMaximumPressure;
         DecelerationDueToBrake = pressureratio * Train.Cars[CarIndex].Specs.BrakeDecelerationAtServiceMaximumPressure;
         // deceleration provided by motor
         if (Train.Cars[CarIndex].Specs.BrakeType != CarBrakeType.AutomaticAirBrake && Math.Abs(Train.Cars[CarIndex].Specs.CurrentSpeed) >= Train.Cars[CarIndex].Specs.BrakeControlSpeed & Train.Specs.CurrentReverser.Actual != 0 & !Train.Specs.CurrentEmergencyBrake.Actual) {
            double f = (double)Train.Specs.CurrentBrakeNotch.Actual / (double)Train.Specs.MaximumBrakeNotch;
            double a = Train.Cars[CarIndex].Specs.MotorDeceleration;
            DecelerationDueToMotor = f * a;
         } else {
            DecelerationDueToMotor = 0.0;
         }

But regardless of any changes I make to it, the operation in openBVE does not change; the dynamics refuse to actuate when the train brake mode is set to Air Brake w/ Partial Release. If anyone here was involved in the development of the source code or knows anyone who was, I would be grateful to hear their input on my situation.

After much searching and coding, I am pleased to say that the DB101 Locomotive (in Hungarian Colors) is close to being released to the OpenBVE community. Marcell Gal, AKA Gothpaladinus (Creator of the Siemens Taurus and Railjet coaches), has graciously supplied me with the exterior files for the locomotive which were created by Tommy50, and thus motivating me to synthesis and edit in the sounds sourced from the DB101 and also code for proper train physics (300 kN max TE). This train is currently in its complete state, and will be released as soon as I hear back Gothpaladinus's feedback. If you do, let me know asap, and I will give you credit for the creation.

While I was finishing the touches on the ALP-46A sounds, I decided to play around with the ALP-46. It turned out quite well, so I am releasing both of them together. Here is the preview video. Since there are others of the 46A, this video focuses on the 46. Download links are in the video description. (Video is still uploading and will be available about 30 minutes from this post. Enjoy =)

I have transplanted the Acela panel and sounds into a TGV exterior that has existed for some time. All credits to the exterior go to the respective developer / developers:

Once again, download links for the routes and the train pack are in the video description on Youtube. All I am waiting for now is for someone to take up developing an actual Acela exterior for openBVE.

I was VERY happy when I was notified that this had been released. The next and probably final update will see the addition of the unique compressor sound that is so commonly associated with the Genesis Series. Enjoy :)

Other Projects / As Promised, Here is the EMD E Series Work in Progress.
« on: August 07, 2012, 07:40:04 pm »
When I went back to check out my locomotives, I discovered that it was the E-Series that had been released to the public and not the F-Series, but that is ok. they are similar looking enough haha.
OpenBVE Exclusive: EMD F9 V1.0 with Vintage Passenger Dome Train
Description on youtube reads:
Quote
First version of the EMD E9 (no locomotive modifications, only attachment of passenger set). You must manually start the engine by first making sure the locomotive is out of gear, and with some brake setting applied (preferably emergency). Then press insert, and the engine will start. To shut down, make sure the locomotive is in the same state, and then press delete.
To download this locomotive, go here: http://bvemexico.blogspot.mx/p/locomotoras.html

The next version will include an EMD 567 engine sound modification, and the fitting of DC traction sounds.

OpenBVE HD EXCLUSIVE: Amtrak AEM-7AC Train Pack V1.0 RELEASE (Full Sound Update, 7/12/13)

Found the NEC objects pack a while ago, but I never got around to playing with the files and slapping them together until now. The locomotive is a bit funky, and doesn't quite turn properly, but you can barely notice it. I've also managed to take the Railjet Taurus sounds again and mold them to mimic the AEM-7AC sounds. Not 100% perfect, but it is pretty close. Just a few things to work on with the loop sound and the train physics, and she will basically be complete.
