Is there a way that you could turn the volume of BVE or OpenBVE down?

Nope. If you mean by muting the simulator then yes. For OpenBVE press Ctrl + M. I don't use BVE 2/4 so sorry.  If you mean by lowering down the volume what I use is the volume controller.

(located in the lower right corner of your screen)

That is wrong.. In open bve go to options and you see where it says sound you can turn it down there. Before posting an answer make sure it's right next time

Yea and if you want to mute OpenBVE press control M.Thats the best option when we multi on Teamspeak b\c we need to listen to the RCC/Dispatchers.If we don't hear them when they call we are considered a "Runaway Train" and that person MAY get dropped for not responding.
