Title: (WIP) Official Update Thread for the NYCTA IRT Routes
Post by: BStyles on December 31, 2010, 09:08:14 pm
This is the new official update thread for IRT development of all bronx-bound routes. For all of the old members who have been following regularly, then you should know that the 4 topic will be consolidated to meet the demand for new development. As for new ones, the images will follow shortly.

The objects folders for these routes will also be centralized to require less dependencies. It makes no sense to have to download multiple folders for one line, and from a different division. The folders are as follows:

"7thAve" Object Folder - 1, 2, 3, and the 5 from Flatbush to President and from 149th to Nereid.
"Lexington" and "Pelham" Object Folders - 4, the 5 from Franklin to 138th, and the 6 from 125th to Pelham Bay Park.
No info on which object folder the 7 uses, but more than likely it will be labeled "Flushing".

Four object folders for seven routes based around the same principle as a punchbox.

Progress(this main post will be updated regularly):

1 - The 2 via the 1 is under development. The official 1 is currently slated for development after the completion of this G.O. To Catch up on the progress, please see these topics: http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=593.0 (http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=593.0) For 2 Via 1: http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=1093.15 (http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=1093.15)

2 - The Nostrand Branch of this route is under development, while the Eastern Parkway portion follows development of the 4. The lines will merge development once the Nostrand line is complete.

3 - A skeleton from Livonia Yard to Crown Heights - Utica Avenue is currently in the works. Will follow development of the 2 and 3 once this is complete.

4 - Progress is as far as Nevins Street. Backtracking to update objects and placement info for the 2 and 3 are underway.

5 -  Once the Eastern Parkway portion of the route is complete the 5 will merge development with the 4 and then continue development with the 2 at 149th.

6 - JayJay85 is working on the Pelam portion of the route. Once it reaches 125th, the line will merge development with the 4 and 5. To catch up on the progress, please see this topic: http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=148.0 (http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=148.0)

7 - EDawg is working on the Manhattan-Bound version. In the future the extension will be added. To catch up on the progress, please see this topic: http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=140.0 (http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=140.0) and the archived topic on the old forum: http://www.bvestation.com/forums/index.php?topic=410.0 (http://www.bvestation.com/forums/index.php?topic=410.0)

Credits go out to Twig, Ray, Lexington456, JayJay85, NYC-T-Driver, EDawg, and Manny who have, and will be developing the IRT routes.

On the contrary, the stations run perfectly fine in both Route Viewer and OpenBVE(unless you're one of those guys who like to place thousands of garbages in one station lol). Well, of course, there are no tunnels. :P

Version two of the photo tunnel walls will be displayed soon. They will be a lot more frame friendly than the previous version and will have newer textures.

Version 2.0 of the photo tunnel walls. Before:

After:

Oh yeah, I'll be using photo tunnel walls. It may not look like it, but I've removed a lot of unnecessary faces so that you'll have a smooth run. The tracks are next.

Hey guys just giving the developers an update. Franklin Ave have the new tactile safety strips, and running boards only on the express platforms. The local side still have the old platform, but that could change soon. And yes the platform itself is still old.

Development on the 4 may go quiet for a while. If so, then refer to Lexington456 for progress on development.

LOL I think we'll be good since its timer less btwn Brooklyn Br and 14th N/B its roughly about 42-46 mph on that stretch. The best stretch would be 42nd to 59th timer less easy 45-50 no doubt then from 86th to 125th once clearing the last timer just after the 96th St sta clears about 35 then you'll be able to hit about 45 since its a downhill then the timers for 125th its about a 15.Then the tubes and the rest of the (4) in the Bronx is timer less btwn 138th and Woodlawn where Woodlawn has GT 10's 1 signal in that station.

I doubt the developers will release REAL NYCTA routes in parts now.The only routes that is available that is like that is the 2,B,D,Q b\c those lines didn't have the right objects to continue on such as the Manhattan Bridge. Now obviously there is one.Now the 2 is a very long route but we have to be grateful for what we have.

well I think he meant like a skeleton but I agree it would be a waste because if the developer made it that far and deep into the route it is late to make a skeleton and I believe skeleton routes have so what I say is wait time willl fly by fast and we would be able to drive it soon

Well, it's about time for me to head out. Yes, I'm leaving.

Oh, well, not for good, I'm just going on hiatus for a moment. In the meantime, the projects that this post resides in, or requires my input will be halted until an indefinite date. As much as it pains me to put the projects on halt just as they were making major progress, I have no choice.

For those reading this post and begin to go ďoh great, development stopped againĒ I suggest you step away from the computer screen and find yourself a hobby, or a book, because I do have a personal life. A handful of people know what Iím going to be doing from now, but for the others, you just have to sit tight, and use the latest development pictures as eye candy.

Well, thatís pretty much it. Keep doing what youíre doing, and Iíll be back before you know it. Turn to Lexington456 and the development of the 6 for more information on the development of the Lexington Avenue Lines.

Back on my grind...

It's been a while since I last posted on here, but now I'm back to work on this line, after acquiring some groundbreaking information. It's also been a while since I've seen the amount of progress on the site, so I also need to step up my game. The 4 will continue as normal, with some major upgrades to texture work and route physics. Hoping to implement these soon...

Anyway, as far as the elevated goes:

The 4 will be extended to it's late night destination at new lots, Hopefully this will prep development on the 3. I've also been researching a way to get textures to glow at night rather than just replacing the background on most routes, and I will be working on that immediately, as well. Hoping to test these new tracks out on the 4 as soon as possible.

Title: Re: Official Update Thread For The Bronx-Bound 4 Line

The reason it is impossible to guess a release date is because the DEVs work on their own time. Unless paid, they have no reason to set a specific date for all content to be finished.

That's perfectly fine. You just should have let everyone know that when you signed up for the forum though, to help prevent members from chirping at you for your grammar. And if the thread is not updated for a while, the developer probably just can't find the time to work. But sometimes when the thread is not updated doesn't necessarily mean that the project is not being worked on.

Now, I hate to mention this, but what just happened on this thread outlines a problem I have noticed on this forum. It seems like most of you people keep thinking that these "low-rank" members (like Ghosttarin) are ruining the forum's reputation. It's actually the people who keep chirping at the low-rank members, and THINKING that the low-rank members ruin the forum's reputation that ruin the forum's reputation (if anyone can make out what I said lol). So I think it would be good if all of you just stopped slamming the low-rank members when they just try to be members, and always take into consideration that they might just happen to be visually impaired like Ghosttarin, or something.

The title of this topic has been modified to match the development of the IRT. This will be the central hub for all development of the IRT. For starters, here is President Street on the 2 and 5:

It was discussed, but nothing ever officially came out of it. I admit that it would be cool to go around the loop and go back up northbound on the same route file, or at least make it go around the loop and terminate northbound at Brooklyn Bridge station. I don't remember if that's the plan or not, but yeah.

I can't wait for the 7 Manhattan bound train. The train to Flushing isn't very good - the tracks, the stations need touching. I hope the new one will be more realistic

Of course the Flushing-bound 7 isn't detailed. That route was released way back in 2000 or '01, when neither the BVE software, nor most medium range computers for that matter, were able to handle the graphics-intensive routes of today.

Work is moving along, albeit slowly. Keep in mind that a lot of developers (myself included) have college finals and/or APs and/or regents tests that we have to focus on. Work will speed up in a couple weeks.

The developers of routes will give an update of the routes when they feel it is necessary. Mostly everyone here is waiting for these routes to be released or for another update and you will just have to be patient and wait.

The 7 is definitely not an "easy" line to build. If it were that easy, it would have been done ages ago. The development of the 7 line began long before I was here (and I've been on this site since early 2009) and it's still not done.  There's some progress updates posted on other sites (ie. openBVE Connection) but it's probably going to be a little while  before the 7 line is fully done.

To add on to @YankeesPwnMets, detailing a route sometimes may need totally new objects. Rebuilding routes with newer objects and\or using older objects is not an easy task otherwise I would have been done with my project (A to Euclid (http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=2355)) and would have released it. Just like how it takes some time to create/edit a train, it is just as difficult to create/edit a route.

Oh, what about the (4)?
It is currently in development. There is a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLtdYPshgyo. You can, of course, develop a route on your own even if it's already in development. Just know that route developing is a very serious project.

The (7) is in the process of being updated by the OpenBVE Connection developers. Don't know their progress though.
Also EDawg was doing the Manhattan-bound (7) wasn't he? I thought development stopped, if not just slowed down?

That is not the 4 line that is the 6 line. There is a reason why they start on the wrong side of 125, go local, & terminate at Brooklyn Bridge. Don't get confused by the announcements.

The Route was mostly finished back in 2013 thats one of the reasons, some of the objects came from the 4 line.
6 Line will be worked on again to add or change features to route that was added/change from 2013 to 2015 like station rehabs, other station modification to reflect the changes NYCT made, Around later this spring (around May 2015) when I get a new camera because my camera was stolen by one of the Railfanners at the UTC meeting, This is one of the reasons why 6 is getting release the way it's.

You do have a point.
Some stations do look it's 2015 (18 of 38 stations have been upgraded to 2014/15 textures standards).

Thanks for the clarification. And you don't have to release this to make us happy if you feel this could be better. Speaking for myself and some of the community I'm sure we would wait a few extra months or years for a fully finished product thats up to date instead of different versions. I believe we are seeing that with the (E),(4) and (7) routes in development. They have been in development for almost 7 years and I believe part of the reason is not the developers not having time but because the transition from BVE to OpenBVE as well as higher quality routes and photorealistic technology have plagued time. The (4) serves as an excellent example when it was first started half a decade ago it was using non-photo realistic stuff and over that time to now we've seen numerous changes from the station tile, to tracks, to elevators, and beams.

Given the level of work and time required to update the route to the 4k textures and dgn-accurate object placement of the Q line, it would be best to have an interim release.

Hi,

Is there a less-detailed route of the 6 line that is available for download? Even though I have 100+ GB left on my hard drive, the route is still very slow. It's not the train file, I ran it with another route and it works fine. Maybe it's just my graphics card.

Thanks,

The (6) is a VERY high quality route, and requires a nice graphics card to run smoothly. Try turning down your settings if you haven't already. One source of lag is the animated trains present throughout the route. I know someone who made a version without the animated trains, but I don't know how to get my hands on it right now.

I'm not sure yet... I would assume that the developers of the Manhattan bound 6 already have a Bronx bound skeleton, but it's totally possible that well work on it.

Manhattan Bound (7): Progress will resume shortly due to school and family life.

Queens Bound (7): Progress is halted and will resume shortly.

Brooklyn Bound (4): Progress is done up to 183 St, skeleton has reached 149 St - GC.

A note: Please do not act like your the king saying that you've been waiting a long time for some of these routes. Us developers do not develop for you, and we dont develop on your clock. Please wait like the rest.

Looks good to me; a bit jerky on one or so of the frames, but smooth overall.  Will there be gender selection for female avatars?

First off, the 5 is not supposed to be released as a BETA, and someone else is working on this.
This is definitely a slap in the face for the developers working on the 5 and other routes. Hence why people are going to not release any routes.

This is my custom 5 BETA from Dyre to East 180th St. In the video there are some objects missing (i.e ballast where the northbound express track is suppose to be.) The route looks nicer when it has all the objects lol :P . This 5 is not involved with anyone, only me. I have no say in the other 5 routes right now.

RELEASE:
The 5 is ready to be released, I'm just waiting on a developer to give me the go ahead so I release it.

Why do we have 2 developers on the (5) train from Dyre to Bowling Green/Flatbush Av?  ??? ???  If someone is already developing it, let them develop and move on to another line @ztraintobroad or help them develop (if they want your help). It doesn't help to have 2 developers on one route competing to see "who's route is better" when we have PLENTY of other lines not coded yet. Yes, there will be some differences between the routes but it is a nonfiction line, so there should be none. Since we know you can code for BVE, can you code a route that is not in development by someone else? It will help all of us to complete coding the subway system for BVE faster.

I am the developer of the original BETA (5), but I am currently working on a newer version of it to Flatbush Avenue

I started working on the (5) 6 months ago. I did not know of the other (5) beta being developed until the chaos in UTMS erupted. I am not just working on the (5), I'm working on the (7) and (S) as well. I plan on finishing the (5) since I'm further into the route then the other (5) BETA. So right now it honestly doesn't really matter.

I understand all of that. The only issue that I have realized with you is that you did not contact the lead developers before you started developing those routes, as all of them (the (7) and if your working on the 42nd street (S), it is being worked on by someone too lol) are being developed by different people. Please, please, and PLEASE ask one of the lead developers (RF9197, BStyles, JayJay85, Mr. Railfan, ARome or DJ Hammers) before you start developing. And also, unless you have the official track maps/diagrams from the MTA that they use today (not nycsubway.org, as those maps are garbage today lmao) you can't develop totally new lines as the distances and curves will be wrong, unless your reverse coding like me (the line was already done in one direction, I am coding it in the opposite direction). Even if your "further into the route", contact the developer and co-develop it if they are willing to do so, as they have worked on it for 8-9 months. Lastly, your doing too much as you have 3 routes here. Focus on one project at a time, complete it, and move to the next project.

EDIT: added information straight from the developer

What is with everyone saying I'm using track maps from NYCSubway.org?? I'm using the actual real track maps here, a combination of the NYC Track Map Book and by railfanning the window along these lines. No one was doing the 42nd ST shuttle last time I checked, my 7 is practically done already just needs a few updates and scenery, and the 5 is already at 125 St.  I'm not quiting these projects.

And just to add on, my (7) has been in development since 2014.  I have asked developers of they needed help with their routes, they said no. Either way, these routes are getting done. Besides, who cares at this point? The only thing that matters to me is to finish all of the routes for BVE for 2017, so whoever releases their routes first is not decided by me, but I'm not quiting.

Wow. So you have the official track maps, huh?

1. Your not supposed to have those, since you don't work for the MTA.
2. Have fun at Rikers for having illegal content  :-X :-X :-X
3. I'm not saying quit the projects. I said co-develop if possible.
4. The 42nd St (S) is being worked on by someone, but I'm not stating their name without their permission. Like I said, you needed to have asked one of the developers for permission to develop the routes before you started. This prevents the overlapping projects issue that you have right now and prevents people from telling you that you need to stop projects that you have invested time in because some else has more work done than you. We are a community, and it is beneficial for everyone to know what everyone is doing to prevent stuff for BVE from being coded twice.

So if you mean that, then that means all the other developers on here who don't work for MTA could go to rikers...

But let's just stop this conversation now since we are going off topic.

Not every lead developer here is a MTA worker, but many have their hands on track maps. Don't badger him for his work on the 5 because its his work. Just because he is maybe not a know developer doesnt automatically mean he has to give up his developing rights just because some else who is known has been doing it. OpenBVE is an open-source game remember that he is free to do what he wants. Don't tell him he can't release something if it's his work. With that said this 5 beta looks really good

TL;DR: Read the post(s) fully before posting a reply, otherwise your errors will be pointed out. Also, reading is fundamental.  8)

1. I'm sorry if I wasn't specific enough for you. Most, not all, lead developers have the tracks maps, as most, not all, work for the MTA.

2. Reading is fundamental. I have nothing against @Ztraintobroad's work on the 5. Like you said, it is his work. I am glad there are more developers working to code the NYC Subway system for OpenBVE. However, all I'm saying is that he should have contacted one of the lead developers about developing the route to prevent:
         a. Competition to see who codes better, as route developing is not a competition
         b. To let other people know a non-fiction project has been started, and so is no need to duplicate it (2 developers coding the same route, but independently of each other). If it was a fictional project, you don't need to tell anybody anything (obviously).

3. Reading is fundamental. What does being a "known" developer have to do with what I said? Also, I said NOTHING about "giving up his developing rights." If he wants to develop, let him. There is not a single person that is going to tell him no. Like I said before, and I will say it again, my only issue is that the lead developers were not contacted before he started his project. Two developers working on the same line and co-developing it is great, but independently of each other? That is my issue.

4. Reading is fundamental. Where did I say he can't release it? Please, please, please quote it. I did not say he can not release it. When @ZtraintoBroad finishes the route and he wants to release it for everyone to use, there is nothing and no one saying that he can't. All I am trying to prevent is 2 Developers working on the same route, independently of each other ESPECIALLY since it is a non-fiction line.

5. I am also trying to prevent this:

this 5 beta looks really good

Now, if it was one developer, we all know who your talking to. If it was 2 developers working to develop the same route, we all know who you are talking to. Did you catch on yet? Now we have a situation where 2 developers, working on the same route, but independently of each other, so who are you talking to? Since no one knows (except yourself), a question like this will be asked by one or both of the developers:

Which 5 are you talking about lol.

And in order to prevent competition, make one developer feel superior than the other, you respond in a manner that gives them both the same gratitude for their work:

All of them they all look nice lol

There is absolutely nothing wrong with showing both of them the same gratitude. We are a community, and should always support each other. When you have to specify who you are showing support to, and have to do so in a manner that doesn't show favoritism, doesn't create a competition in route developing, and doesn't cause any issues to occur between the developers, that is when it becomes a problem.

6. Spell check your post before posting. Your use of grammar and punctuation is horrible.

Thank you very much for your time and have a nice day!!!  ;D ;D ;D

You can continue to point out my errors if you want. Ill put in a couple just for you ... Did you catch that? :o ;)
My comment wasn't only directed toward you, but it was nice of you to respond on some points that i mentioned.  :P :)

I don't remember asking you for your issue. I simply spoke on the matter of the track maps which is why I quoted you. I could name lead developers that have tracks maps but are not MTA Workers, so yes most but not all. This makes it unfair for you to tell this developer to "have fun Rikers". The rest of my comment was simply to the following comment.

First off, the 5 is not supposed to be released as a BETA, and someone else is working on this.
This is definitely a slap in the face for the developers working on the 5 and other routes. Hence why people are going to not release any routes.

This is how being "known" or "developing rights" comes into play. So all of that "one developer...co-developer" stuff was therefore not needed to be explained to me. Thanks for the commentary though!

Superior? The hell are you talking about. I know that your one of the few members on this site that don't like me, and I'm quite ok with that. But here's something I DON'T like, and that's bringing me down all the time wether it's anything that I post. It's not on here though, it's on Facebook and a lot of other sites.

You saying "two developers working on the same route isn't right" is false. We have had SO many routes being developed by well know developers (not trying to be rude just stating a fact) that weren't completed even though they have been in development since 2013. Some of these developers hold off on the realistic routes to work on their fictional routes. That's their decision, and I respect that, which is why I start developing those real routes on my own as a failsafe. If this developer doesn't finish the route and I finish it before him, we have a line that's released to the public and one step closer to having all subway routes in BVE. It's that simple. It's not to have "competition" as you call it, it's a rather logical plan to ensure ALL routes are done for BVE by the end of 2017. I agrees with TheExpress/XD60 on all his points.

Now, let's stop cluttering the IRT thread.

There is an update to the (7) line:

I have been using way to many Sketchup objects in the manhattan portion of the (7) which is lagging it really badly, so I had to do the following:

I am recreating all objects for Times Square, 5th Avenue, Grand Central, and Vernon Blvd and Hunters Point. The main point of this is to reduce lag by 75% which will make it easier to play with. Most of all the objects are now being made by hand.

Last one talking. You responding to what I said just makes it worse. So please continue wasting your time. And you used the wrong definition of superior. Also, you "assume" that I don't like like you. I don't like your strategy when you solve issues, but you as a person I neither like or dislike. Now I understand why your developing routes that are in progress as a "failsafe", according to you. Still confused, but understand. Now we can leave this issue in the past where it belongs, specifically 2016  :P :P
