Title: World of Subways Vol.4: New York
Post by: Nicholas Blonski on September 13, 2013, 03:40:59 pm
Here's something that may interest you guys over in NYC. Just came across this on my Facebook news feed. TML Studios has recently started work on the 4th instalment in the World Of Subways series, simulating the (7) Line of the New York City Subway.

Information from Wednesday: http://www.tml-edition.com/index.php?do=/blog/103/wos4-vom-11-09-2013/ (http://www.tml-edition.com/index.php?do=/blog/103/wos4-vom-11-09-2013/)

And today: http://www.tml-edition.com/index.php?do=/blog/105/wos4-vom-13-09-2013/ (http://www.tml-edition.com/index.php?do=/blog/105/wos4-vom-13-09-2013/)

I have high hopes in this simulation. It looks pretty promising.

For all i know they might stick R46/R68 Hybrid into the route. Sure the routes look good, but their sim isn't really known for great accuracy. Let alone, it's payware too.

actually they already have a R62/A knowing them they'll use the model from the sunrise game for the 7 line

New updates on January 31, 2014. Looks very promising and has way more attention to detail than BVE projects including street layouts, building type placements, etc.

I'm really interested to see what kind of modeling they will do for the train. The models in BVE were stellar, Trainz ones were going to become big but the development stopped on those, but for payware, this thing has got to be quite a gem.

Wow for someone who doesn't really know about it that tells me they're on point then cause that's exactly what they plan on doing. The late 70's early 80's

Looks pretty decent. Really captures the time era, and nice touch how they left the old track configurations with the switches leading into Fisk instead of the newer ones at 74th. I probably won't be picking this up, but great effort on their part.

The product page for WOS4 has been launched in the Aerosoft Shop. A projected release date of 23 October 2014 has also been announced.

I would like to make it apparent that the release date is only a projection and is not official yet. It is subject to postpone at any time (and it probably will be).

agreed. even Train Simulator from DTG (formerly railworks) isn't even as expensive as this (from individual content standpoint).

Thanks for posting those! This definitely looks like it will more or less be a rehash of Vol.3 in terms of graphics and physics based on the screenshots. The system requirements sure better be the same as all their previous games that made use of this game engine. Overall I'm getting more and more curious to see how this is going to play out, with each update.

While these screenshots look nice (despite being slightly reminiscent of a Resident Evil game :D), it looks as though this game will be a stew of anachronisms. In some places, it has this '80s-'90s vibe with the station designs and the redbirds being the train of choice. However, other elements, including some of the stations, have a more modern vibe. Of course, the developers could be taking the Batman approach and not have it in any particular time-frame.

With the unveiling of the Hunters Point, Vernon Blvd, Grand Central, 5th Avenue, and Times Square stations, all stations are now complete.

Quote
Terminus reached! In the past weeks we presented you all stations in World of Subways 4, Line 7.

This time we've got the last 5 stations for this series. The screenshots were captured in an Alpha version of the game.

-- Hunters Point Avenue --
Finally, this station is an underground station. The tunnel portal is at the eastern end of the station. It is served by all trains and it also represents the typical New York underground layout: Two side platforms, this time no center track.

-- Grand Central --
This underground station has a large round celing, which is similiar to the ones of underground stations in London, Paris or other european cities.
Passengers are able to change to the 4, 5, and 6 lines of the IRT Lexington Avenue Line, IRT 42nd Street Shuttle, as well as other railroad services.

-- Fifth Avenue --
Also known as "Fifth Avenue - Byrant Park"; This underground station has an island platform, the passengers are able to change to the B, D, F and M lines on the IND Sixth Avenue Line.

-- Times Square --
Finally we've reached our destination: The heart of the Big Apple and the terminus of the IRT Flushing Line: Times Square.
The trains stop at a dead end. Passengers are able to change to other subway lines, like IRT 42nd Street Shuttle, lines 1, 2, 3 of the IRT Broadway (Seventh Avenue Line), the N, Q and R of the BMT Broadway line, the A, C, and E of the IND Eight Avenue line, and finally the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

That's it from the 7 line stations.
Stay tuned for more (new) insights starting next week!
Enjoy your weekend!

IIRC, the game is supposed to take place in the 1970's. Considering the developer's history with minor inaccuracies as such, I wouldn't be too surprised. It looks like an amazing game nonetheless.

Happy Wednesday!

As you might have heard, the box release of World of Subways 4 was delayed till March. This does not mean that we're going to lean back and enjoy ourselves - rather more, we will continue to finish the game and test it as much as we can.

Today, we want to introduce you to the characters in the game. They all have their very own personality and they will be part of your future 7 line career. We don't really want to spoil much yet, so we're going to jump directly to the pictures.

Please keep in mind that the images come from an early version of the game and may not resemble the final product.

I don't really understand the point of adding these "additional features" that don't make up the core gameplay.

Now I'm a bit concerned. This is a train simulator, right? I know it looks a bit like Silent Hill, but we don't need a story with a thousand characters like an actual Silent Hill game.
Title: Re: World of Subways Vol.4: New York
Post by: ipac on January 22, 2015, 11:59:45 pm
I think they are trying to make a game that gives you the "experience" of being a worker for the Transit Authority, and not so much of just driving trains.  The graphics themselves, do look like something from a Silent Hill game or movie or something.  They just picked the wrong color palette.

Also they're using the mainline R33, not the worlds fair version. There's a lot of glaring inaccuracies under a veil of shiny graphics.

I wonder if they're even aware of that.
Usually they are not. Such is the case when European Companies try and "simulate" American content.... DTG *coughcough*...

Anyways, I want to see how the physics are on the trains before I pass my final judgement. IMO, the train can be as inaccurate as hell, but as long it has realistic operational physics, that's what matters to me.
Title: Re: World of Subways Vol.4: New York
Post by: Bombardier01800 on January 23, 2015, 09:02:33 pm
That is a good point. In WOS 1, I was not totally disappointed, but it wasn't perfect. I felt the trains accelerated waaayyyy too fast, but the brakes were aaight. I don't remember WOS 2 all that well, but I believe it was a little better. The only thing left for us is to wait and see.

I do agree that as long as a game has good graphics and physics, then I'm okay with it. Although I still think accuracy is essential to enjoyment of the game (especially if you live where the game takes place, in this case New York).

Quite a surprisingly dramatic trailer. They seem to have at least gotten some key differences between the R33 and R36 subway cars in there (disregarding the fact that they have modelled the ML versions instead of the WF versions). Hopefully the sound sets will be realistic to the General Electric motors on the R33 versus the Westinghouse motors on the R36. Knowing TML's renowned history of ridiculously unrealistic sounds, I'll be very impressed if they get the motors right this time.

Oh, and has anyone else noticed the door chimes included on the Redbirds in this game!? Not too impressed with that if I do say so myself..

Poopsicle (need to wait until next Monday)... http://store.steampowered.com/app/343070/

But until then, let's learn how to play ;) http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/343070/manuals/Manual_World_of_Subways_4_en_web.pdf?t=1426770129

It seems just by inspection of the manual, there are a few inaccuracies operationally speaking, but I'm willing to forgive them for it.

I'm just wondering, when did GT and ST signals become abundant in the system?  (I'm trying to figure out if they should be simulated in this game)

ST signals should be present in the route because I read around they existed before the 1960's but they weren't all throughout the system. GT I am unsure about but my grandfather a retired T/A employee told me he remembers GT's on the BMT lines such as the West End and Jamaica El

So who's going to be waking up at 4 AM on Monday (2 AM for me, in MST) for the release of this? Haha.

Oh and here's the official gameplay trailer:

This looks decently promising. One thing I would like to see more is sparking from shoe contact of the 3rd rail, also the older video featured an 70-80's type door chime that the R62/A,68/A class has. *Spoiler alert could the R-62/A be in game?! (thats rhetorical)

The game doesn't look too bad, I would check it out if its cheap enough.

I bought the game. It's cool in the sense that you can do something like take a <7> out of Times Square, operate it to Flushing, then get all of your equipment and turn the train around for a local run. The thing that really nags me is the extremely long missions (which become very monotonous) and the fact that a game like this should not be worth more than $15. I wouldn't suggest people to buy it until Steam puts it on sale

For those interested in the missions of this game (who haven't checked them out yet), here's videos of every single mission in the game:

They honestly just look like enough to keep you busy for a few minutes, which I guess is the whole purpose of the game.

I wish the missions weren't so ridiculous in this game. They're some that are realistic (ie. operating in snow while trying to stay on schedule,) but they're some that are just completely silly. Why would you transport a pregnant woman on a subway train when you can call an ambulance? What C/R would go alone into a pitch dark tunnel with a serial killer around? Who the hell would operate a train through an underwater tunnel after an earthquake when it's far safer to evacuate at the station? I would rather have missions such as a derailment leading to an evacuation, sudden power loss inside a tunnel, GOs due to construction, operating a rescue train to help a stalled train etc. The game is a good for anyone who just wants to operate the (7) line (especially considering the fact that the updated 7 is not available for openBVE yet), but the missions are absolute garbage.

TML recently updated WoS 4 to Version 1.1.0. Several fixes include the addition of cab sway and adding more A.I. trains during rush hours. Enjoy the ride =)

I do agree that some the missions were ridiculous and unrealistic.  I do commend them on trying though.  I can definitely see where you are coming from.  Just looked at the price, the game is $34.99? Thats more than a DLC on Train Simulator 2015...  Judging by the latest screenshots and videos, I do like the exterior graphics of the neighborhoods on the elevated during the day, still hate the graphics underground though.  This game is definitely not on my wish list though.

For $34.99, I would consider buying the game if it included a large set of routes. For example, the entire Lexington Line with the entire 4, 5 and 6 lines, etc. Lines such as Lex or 7th Av would also allow for additional flexibility (ie. sending a 4 to Eastchester, 5 to Pelham, 5 via Lex Local, and so on and so forth) which would make the game much more entertaining. Just having the 7 line gets a little boring and makes the game completely overpriced. I already bought this game and probably would ask for a refund if Steam allowed me to. Buy this game when Steam puts it on sale for 10 bucks, but it is definitely not worth your 35 bucks. Put that towards your GTA V preorder or something else.
