I believe Broad Street. When this route is completed maybe JayJay  can get a G.O (J) train To Prospect Park via the (R) and (Q) line but he'll have to code the more and he can copy and paste the (Q) from Atlantic and change the distances.Just a thought from me. :D

yes the (J) is gonna be release with the Z.
yes it's going Broad Street the full route (morning rush).
i need permission from joe to change that background sky.
their is a skeleton that have distance between stations Broad St to Dekalb Av then to prospect park.
This line is about 90% done (the Z anyway).

It's been worked on for the past few years there just haven't been updates so the developer won't get bugged and people worrying about what happened to this and that. It's kind of like what Joe aka Phantom909 is doing/does and did.

I would also like to extend what shiwund said, but different. Is B'way Junction going to include ENY yard with all of them trains out there, very curious. But it would be nice if there was a nyc route with a yard full of them

yea

and i think ConeyIslandDFNQ is making the M via 6th ave here's the thread (http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=119.0)

But since the V and M are similar via Queens Blvd lcl you can swap the announcements to make it more realistic. (just like a preview for the M)  Click me! (http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=202.msg1674#msg1682)    ;)

Sorry for the lack of updates, I have been working on revising the Brighton line for some bugs that people reported. The newest update [version 8] (should be released this week) will go to Coney Island, thanks to the excellent coding and extension of the route from Brighton Beach - done by JayJay85, and will feature:

Here's some screenshots from the latest build:

Punchbox at Prospect park

Approaching Kings Highway (New Station house hanging overhead)

Punchboxes at Kings Highway:

All of this will be in version 8.

Version 9, well, is a different story. I will be working very hard and rebuilding the Brighton portion from the Ground up, with brand new building objects that are similar to what they are in real life, weather scenarios and a bunch of other goodies. After that is done, I will pass the route to JayJay85 and he will work on creating a Brighton Local version. So stay tuned for more updates regarding Version 9.

A punchbox is a device at some stations (stations just before a point where routes diverge, or a point where one route goes express and the other goes local) that train operators use to tell the dispatcher which route they are driving, so the dispatcher can correctly switch the tracks for them.

BTW, the route looks gorgeous!

Well you can't really use it because there is no mechanism to switch tracks in game. It does represent the location that you actually have to "punch" for to get a line up in real life. This is why you have to be careful not to overrun, or you will not be able to "Punch" for a line up.

Sort of. I'm working on a scenario that runs from 96 Street-2 av to Coney Island via Lex-63 St and Broadway. So it touches the 63 st tunnel. No promises on a 21 St queensbridge to Coney Island via B'way yet.

That would be JayJay's work, he put the station together and BStyles created the phenomenal roof object for the station. I just fixed the position of some station objects to make it a bit more realistic. In version 9 i would like to replace all textures with High quality ones and add more objects (TV's, Station direction boards, etc.).

On another note, i'm hoping for a Friday night release this week (for version 8 ). I might require some Beta testers for pre release checking so please PM me if you are interested.

This route is looking so amazin Mr.Railfan. Keep up the amazing work. PS Are you going to make a Q via the R line? The reason why i am asking was that, i was on the Q train and somehow there was broken track at Dekalb Av, so the Q train was switch over to the R Line all the way up to Canal St then it was switch back to the express track at Canal St.  :) :D ;D

That would require rebuilding the entire route south of canal, so that would be very hard to do. Maybe in some future release we would have it.

On another note, i have sent out BETA test files to those who requested it, so check your inbox's.

Post by: Mr Railfan on March 22, 2013, 08:47:51 pm
As of right now i have to delay the release by a day or two. I'm having difficulties with the static moving AI trains. Once that's resolved i can start the very lengthy process of splitting the base file up for scenarios that will be included with release. After that's done i have to test every file - which itself is a lengthy process. So all of this is simply impossible to get done tonight. I will post a follow up update soon.

I've been trying to add in all the signs and punchboxes that are along the real route into the BVE counterpart.

Do you know when this will be released?

Nope.

I was planing for a release two weeks ago, but its simply not ready. I have a lot of work to do on the line and have to test everything before i release it. After the last release with all the bugs, i am not going to release something that i have not thoroughly tested. You also have to realize that i'm not getting payed for this and am working on my free time. I also have classes, homework and Exams coming up so i have my priorities on other things. All i can ask is just be patient. When it's ready for a release, i will make a post.

Latest update:

I'm replacing textures on the 6th ave scenarios so it looks bit more modern:

42 street: new walls (old one was very pixelated and blurry) ,new overhead sign (The old one still mentioned the V in service!)

34 street:

Bway Lafayette

Grand Street

I have also begun work on the SMEE (manual announcements) scenarios, which might take a while to finish.

And at B'way Lafayette the note in top right hand black blox said the W was in service.

All of those signs have been completely redone with correct information pertaining to the transfers at the station.

For example:

Starting at Astoria shows the correct destination of where the train is bound for:

In station transfers now show accurate info, along with varying between different scenario options such as Weekend, Rush hour etc.

Thanks guys, many of the texture upgrades have been made to the "Lisaraye2" Object folder, which is shared among many lines.
Also, no update on the D extension to CI yet, but there are talks and plans of extending the N south of 59 street. More on this will be announced later.

On a separate issue: i will have a special few preview screenshots in the next few days showing some changes i made to the line.

Since these are in a shared object folder, they will replace the old signaling that you have.

I actually removed the signal plates because it would take months to accurately create every single Signal plate for Broadway, 6th Av, West End, 4th Av, Sea Beach and Brighton and then put them all into signals.

Oh ok just thought it maight be cool cause of how BVE 2 told you the signal name and upcoming aspect, maybe we could use that data to make signal plates, then this would be the ultimate route in terms of accuracy.

BVE2 used the coding of the signals that was already included within the route if i recall. For OpenBVE to have it, we would have to create the pictures of all the signal info and then manually code that into every signal into the route. I am simple not going to create a thousand pictures and indexes for the signals and then waste even more time putting all of that into every signal within 100 route scenarios. Remember i don't get paid to do this and am not wasting a couple of weeks of my life to create something as minuscule as that.

No, It's still express. The Local will be in the following version. Hopefully the 100+ scenarios and an Extremely detailed line that goes to coney island in the upcoming version will hold you guys over.

Not to sound ungrateful or anything, but it seems that all this effort put into all these scenarios and refaces could be put into coding the local version of the route. Like I said, I mean no disrespect. I'm just voicing my opinion.
Title: Re: (WIP) Official Update Thread for the NYCTA BMT Routes
Post by: Mr Railfan on August 31, 2013, 08:33:46 pm
Listen, im not withholding the local version just because i don't feel like making it. There's no local version yet because the route is riddled with coding errors that i need to fix first, add all the new objects first and then i can finally port over the express into a local version. Once the express is fully upgraded, i'll work on the local. Like i said the plan for the longest was to finish v8 and the local will be in v9.

I also have very limited time as it is and i feel like having a very detailed line is more important then wasting the limited time i have trying to make a local with the same barebone details that's included with the current Q.

This route has a massive amount of objects and textures, much more than any other NYC Subway openBVE route developed before it, so it is inevitable that people with slow computers will have lag problems.
However, we are doing our best to optimize the route so that lag is kept to a minimum.

Remember, this scenario takes place in 2006. At that time, the name of the station was Newkirk Avenue, since its renovation and name change didn't come until a few years later.

Working on the 2006 scenario is much harder then doing the Modern day one. I figured that we would get the difficult stuff out of the way first and then just replace textures with 2013 textures. Don't worry, the release will have both 2013 and 2006 scenarios.

Great work guys on this route!

Just a heads up, are you guys going to fix 34th street for this upcoming release? The Northbound tracks I believe shift up (or maybe it's the southbound side going down) towards the southern end of the station from the Brooklyn-bound side.

And are you guys going to include Queensboro Tower?

Other than those two points, I see nothing else that needs major fixing. Great job again on this route! It's looking better and better with each passing shot.

Don't worry, between the two of us the route is having some work done on it almost every day.

Right now we are working on the metal sculptures on the platform at Brighton Beach. Making these is very time consuming, but they almost finished.

It is recommend that you have a fairly modern computer/laptop you should be fine with a mid-end graphics card(AMD or NVIDIA) and at least 4GB of RAM as days and time goes by the routes/trains will be richer to nail things exactly is real as possible for the best experience without hurting our computers.

At this point, developers are working on updating real routes, not fictional ones.

Sorry, maybe at some point in the future. The release package will include various real Q train scenarios and reroutes only. However the folder object that the Q/G to Staten Island will be updated so some new objects may transfer over to those fictional routes.

I ran the whole route. I understand that it's currently a BETA, so I would just like to make a few suggestions:

There should some scenery around the Williamsburg Bridge. It looks very bare without anything around.
The Williamsburg Bridge could definitely use some more work. Hopefully in a later version it will look as good as the current Manhattan Bridge in development
The .brightness values are slightly off between the Bridge and Essex. It gets dark too late after leaving the bridge and brightens too late at Essex
The curve about 25-50 meters after Flushing Avenue should be fixed. It looks a little bit off
Add in photorealistic textures at Essex
Very minor: get the new Marcy Av announcement (the one that includes an announcement for the B44 SBS transfer)

And just a small question: The V line was finished several years ago, now with the J/Z almost done, how is the current M coming along? The only parts that need to be built now are the Myrtle Avenue Branch and the Chrystie Cut

I think the curve after Cypress Station should be reduced a little bit. This is because trains can derail at certain speeds.

The Williamsburg Bridge has been improved by DJ Hammers and I along with some improved texture work.

I put in the brightness commands a while back into an early development version of the line (along with the signals) and i just didn't get a chance to update the things before the beta was released.

The Announcements have also been updated a while back, the beta was just released with an older sound folder before i sent JayJay the newest one.

Rest assured the majority of the things will be fixed for the full release.

Here's another large update on our progress.

Starting off, Canal Street is nearly finished. Note the new platform, railing at the foot of the stairway to the J/Z lines, and columns at the northern end of the station.

Hey guys,

Such an impressive realsticly looking route made there, many regards to the developing team on that. Although there's nothing to critisise, I would suggest possibly brightening up the lights on the station. Just the lights, no not the tublar ones, the flat ones. I noticed that they were rather shaded dim.

A good way to keep them bright would be to add Setemissivecolor, 255, 255, 255 which helps a lot.

Apart from that, I cannot express such gratitude for such good work and I'll be looking forward to seeing more from you.

Many Regards,

Shaquille Henry

Yes, it's planned to be added in, considering i made snow objects for an older version of the Q.

We were actually going to replace the lights completely with a new object which should be much brighter . Thanks for the advice with the setemissivecolor command, ill make sure that's added.

Good to know my trippers are still alive. The don't work just yet with tripping trains, but with a little more tweaking, it should stop all of the speed racers during runs.

Anywho, back to the Manhattan Bridge:

Did some retexturing and finished the lower level roadway:

Hopefully the poles won't be as framerate breaking as the ones on the R46.

This route looks amazing btw. I hope to see more routes updated with this attention to detail.

they won't be. The R38 is pretty frame rate friendly compared to the R46

Speaking on the topic of frame rates, i'm pretty sure the Q line will not be able to run on lower end computers. The amount of details through out the route will really bring FPS down on low end computers. DJ Hammers and I are trying our best to maximize performance, but once again, there's no guarantee it'll run on low end PCs.

What do you mean by "lower end?"  Like what specs would you expect the route to run smoothly on?

Anything that performs under an i3 processor and 4GB RAM or less. If you have an AMD A8 or Intel i5 you should be fine. As well as at least 4GB RAM.

A discrete graphics card (preferably NVIDIA) vs an integrated gpu is also recommended, although you may get by with mediocre frame rates running Intel HD 4000 or higher. Don't expect any sort of performance with an HD 3000 unit or below.

Elaborating on the framerate aspect of this conversation...

The amount of detail being put in to the Q line is far beyond anything that has been done before on any NYCT BVE routes. This means that the textures are much higher in resolution, and furthermore there are many more of them than previous routes. Don't be surprised if you don't get above 20 frames per second unless you have a (good) discrete graphics card and 4GB or more of RAM.
At this point we are pushing openBVE's renderer to its limit.

Unbelievable. I remember when I started to play BVE 2, computer drawn textures and objects with bare station platforms were the norm. Then ipac stepped everything up with new high quality objects and digitally drawn textures. Shortly after, photorealism was introduced, followed by animations, now there are even more realistic objects. The standards of NYCT routes have risen so much in such a little amount of time. This Q line is going to set a new precedent for routes.

Great work!

I have some good news. I have made the timers trip the train if you run through the red. I am still testing this at the moment, but i will post a video to show a preview of it. Unfortunately, this uses new coding and will not work with timers currently installed on NYCT BVE routes, making them obsolete. If i am satisfied with the results, all new lines will have timers with tripping ability.

Amazing thing is that this is all freeware. With other sims like FSX you can get ultra realistic add ons.... at the price of an arm and leg. The fact that this stuff is so realistic yet free is amazing.

Take a look at the PMDG Boeing 777 for FSX... it costs $90 and its essentially like being in a real plane. Everyone should appreciate how these trains/routes that are being pumped out are still free

Status of route development as of March 19th, 2014.

(Q): Coney Island Bound currently under development by Mr Railfan and Dj Hammers. Both a 2006 version and a 2013 version is under development. Will include multiple scenarios such as reroutes and short turns. Will be released along with the full (D), (B), (N), and southbound (R) lines.

So will the (B)(N) and (R) also be released along with the (D) or will it just be the (D) and (Q)?

we're still not sure how we're going to release it, but the bottom line is the (B) (D) (N) (Q) (R) will be finished and released either in an all in one bundle, or release a line day by day, withing the course of a week.

A thought came to mind that kinda formed this question. With the (L) line being developed, which version is being created? Is it the updated (L) where Atlantic Ave is now used as a single island platform or the old (L) with the the now abandoned Manhattan bound platform?

Not for a while. There's other stuff we have to work on first, notably finishing up the southern BMT routes, as well as the J,M,Z, and 6 lines.

I admire the time and effort put into all the routes and trains but I am confused to which direction Bedford Park Blvd is facing due to the fact that is my home station and the entire station is curving from end to end. The platform texture is incorrect it should look something similar to the platform used at 7th Av. Another point out is there should be a tower at the South End of the station on the Manhattan bound platform. The train doesn't stop at the end of the platform but rather where the tower is. Good luck!

Like you said, right now the focus is on the Q. As soon as that is done the N and R will be updated using the new objects as they share a lot of common objects such as stations, walls and buildings, so the N/R will be released shortly after the Q is done.

Progress on the Q has also resumed at a steady pace and here's another preview shot (just outside church avenue):

It's been a while since I've posted any updates, but rest assured the development team has been very hard at work on completing the Q line.

Here are some progress updates:

57 Street to Church avenue is 95% completed and detailed. Additionally, Building placement and object placement are an accurate representation of where they are located in real life. Church avenue to Stillwell is also nearing completion, but requires some further detailing. Here are some preview screenshots :

Some updates: Signaling has been completely redone from the ground up with newer realistic signals. New tracks have also been made along with scenery installments up to Brighton beach.

What's left: Scenery installment from Brighton beach to West 8 street, bug fixes and a Beta release. Not a lot of things left to be put in.
