BVE/OpenBVE Support / Re: HELP R40 VIEWS
« on: December 03, 2011, 06:39:56 pm »
Are you asking for help, or were you just waiting to shoot it down?

The R40 is not my expertise, but I do remember seeing a few help topics around the support forum. You should go check it out.

You should probably make your own topic for your own project.

Here's a fun fact: ALL of the Trainz versions require serial numbers. I suggest that you purchase yourself a copy of Trainz before you begin to download content, because Auran takes their copyrighting policy strictly.

The A Line you're talking about on the Download Station from Broadway Junction to Beach 33rd was made by me(because if you read the content details, it says in bold "made by BStyles"), and I'd rather you not touch it, as I am going to finish it over the holidays with the new NYCTA super pack that's being worked on. But yeah, like everyone says, you need to learn how to wait patiently. Asking the developer 5,000 times in three days when his work is going to be released doesn't get it released any faster.

PS: Do not PM me. What I said here is final.

I bolded the sentence when I said no, just in case you didn't hear.

i just can wait for every route to come out   ;D even the J M and Z
Finally, someone who can wait!

The 4 will resume development next year, with a new skeleton which extends from New Lots. This should help pave the way for the development of the 3, and other IRT lines.

BVE/OpenBVE Support / Re: How to achieve better FPS on OpenBVE videos
« on: November 22, 2011, 05:23:25 pm »
Did this way back with lower-end computers that I've owned.  Now that I'm more financially stable, I was able to get a higher-end rig and don't need to run like this anymore.

I actually do this in order for my souped up rig to play at max settings!

Well if you do this to play at max settings then tyour computer doesn't sound very souped up to me. :P

You're gonna have to use common sense on that one. The route interval is measured in seconds, so, like in the picture, 240 is 240 seconds, or four minutes. 600 seconds is 10 minutes. And something like 5,000 is 83-84 minutes. If you know anything about the automated systems going around the subway nowadays, then this should help.

Okay, let me clear some things up, because it sounds like you're being misleaded.

Permission is needed, of course. But since I am like emo, I think that nobody will grant permission if it is a non-NYCT fictional or made with RouteBuilder.
You really need to stop thinking that we're denying you because of what you are, or what you think.

For one, obviously that's discrimination, and we do not support that, so please, get the story straight. We've said countless times that RouteBuilder should not be your first choice for making BVE routes.

Second, you(anyone, not you personally) cannot make an accurate non-fictional NYCT routes without the accurate track maps to go with them. Proven fact. You cannot make a route off of knowledge, or because of how many times you have rode that route, because you are not the original architect of the route, being that it is subway, or any other branch or railroad(hence why there are no full MNRR or LIRR routes available yet). I do not know about the recent releases of skeletons, because I was not available to view them, so that's not my jurisdiction, or my problem.

A couple of Q/A'S to appease new eager developers:

Q: Can we modify existing development without permission?
A: Yes. Technically, if you're not planning to release it and it's intended for your personal use and your personal use ONLY, then take a swing.

Q: Can I show pictures of what I made on the forum?
A: Not necessarily. That is considered advertising, and gives people, especially developers, the false impression that you're trying to release what you did. You're best bet is to show the original developers of the project first.

Q: Why do we even need permission in the first place? I didn't have to pay for anything.
A: That may be, but you still didn't take the time out of your day to create the piece of work. Like artwork, artists never meant for it to become internationally renowned, and don't ask for credit, sometimes. So, when dozens more of the same copy of artwork is made, it is hard to give credit to the original author because now, either someone else is receiving that credit, or, no one can no longer find the original author because he is buried underneath others claiming to be the original author. It's a cycle which lead to the tight security today.

Q: What if I cannot contact the original developer and there's something I would really like to be released?
A: My most favorite question. You would still need the developer's permission to release it, or at least find another developer willing to help you get permission. If not, then if you know what you did, don't go through the trouble of modifying and make the project entirely, with your own developing skills. It saves a lot of time and criticism.

But one thing that should always be stressed, is to NOT go over the original author's head and claim to have permission to do said things. This is an interconnected community, so it is not too hard to find out for ourselves, where, if found guilty, can cause harsh consequences.

Station Talk / Re: Route development status widget
« on: November 16, 2011, 10:33:27 pm »
Or, instead of constantly updating the Status of NYCTA routes topic with useless comments, it should just be a single post for the update of routes. We, as route developers, can update it whenever we make progress.

And whenever someone makes a topic asking about it, instead of making any comments on why they didn't search the forum(which no one does nowadays) we can just post the link, thus avoiding the conflict altogether. Regardless, there will be a bit of manual labor to make something "automatic" per se.

The route and yard tracks are completed. I will be detailing the stations. I don't have the actual graphics do I'm just using the standard walls. Lol
Standard walls it is. Once the Southbound 1 makes some more progress then we can worry about high detail.

Hi.
This news will be very terrible for you and will result in all you puking, shouting "NO WAY!!!" in all your might, warning or banning me on every BVE/openBVE forum permanently and by IP, writing an internet meme that will depict me and force all to hate me. And this is not only reason. Read "My Story" topic on BVEStation and you will hate me since I am against this stupid COPPA law and if I will know any 10-12 years old train enthusiasts, I will support them, help them, chat with them and teach them openBVE manual route coding commands, programming in different environments for helping me and developing together. Also I am a communist/socialist, and you will hate me since so. Also besides BVE, I have many other interests that aren't railway-oriented. It's like drawing anime/manga, composing music and stuff, web designing, learning Japanese, playing guitar/synth, freestyling, chatting with children, sciences - high tech, UFOlogy (You will hate me since you all don't believe in UFOs) etc. I am like emo guy, and I hate when everyone hates me. Since I am very nice, like kiddos which are chatting with me, I won't harrass you. I will just remind you about so.
Stories are stories, but here are NEWS. I recently got a RouteBuilder source code from Uwe Post, and I am trying to develop it in future. I am searching for programmers that can help me with the visual editor interface of this new route editor. My project is not a route coding helper, not a 1st April joke, not a stunning one-click route generator. It is a visual track segment-based railway editor that can make openBVE routes. Each segment is 25 meters long and has something attached to it (background, form, wall etc - in one word, all openBVE commands). There will be no point-and-click interface like in Uwe Post's version, as I said, there will be segment-based interface, like you work in RouteBuilder with grids. I have seen similar interfaces in model railroad layout planning softwares like WinRail, RailEdit etc. The whole code of the two connected segments in BVE route will look like this:
Code: [Select]
0, .railtype 0, .ground 0, form 0;L;0;0, .limit 0
25, .railtype 0, .curve 1000
(the commands are entered just for example)
For building the route skeleton, the route definitions (as in Uwe Post's version) will be used. While developing, EVERY CSV command will be considered. Nothing except freeobj will be treated as freeobj. There will be some addons like in Uwe Post's version. There will be route packager like in Uwe Post's version. There will be both b3d, csv, x and animated object support. In one word, there will be all enough to create a powerful BVE route. And no blackjack and chicks!
If you are with me to develop the software with me, if you are fluent with C# or Delphi, if you respect my insights, we'll develop it! Who is not with me is against me!
For checking source codes (Uwe's and my), you need a Google account and TortoiseSVN to check out sources from the subversion.

You didn't have to write a thousand word essay on how we do and don't feel about you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion(there are people that hate my guts, but I don't really care for it). This isn't the right section for it, so just stick to the point next time.

Making a visual editor sounds nice, but it sounds a lot too Trainz-ish. Trainz, as you should know, is all about the dragging, dropping, and placing of various objects and scenery to make a route. BVE is different, as it uses objects built at around 25 meters and uses intervals and draw distances to keep everything order(not to mention that some commands jurisdict the direction of the route, not how an object is placed). To add to that, you would need to remake the developing engine for the gaming platform(OpenBVE uses a series of DLLs and the NET Framework in order to run, whereas Trainz uses AuranJet, a pre-made engine by Auran/N3V Games). That will require a lot of brain power, so I hope you're up to the task.

No, OpenBVE will automatically generate one train in front of you and one train behind you, based on the train interval and if you follow the schedule or not.

The (W) skeleton is already done(although it depends on if you're talking about the real one, as this topic is for real routes anyway). I still have it laying around somewhere. The Astoria portion will be added to the R skeleton upon release, as it says in JayJay's lengthy update.

Transit / Re: Something about the R160's
« on: November 04, 2011, 07:57:10 pm »
In layman's terms, the R160 has a FIND system and the R143 doesn't, however on the bright side, the back of the R143 LED display, or the interior display, has another LED display that cycles through various MTA-related amenities.

The R160's without the stainless steel interior plating were used around the time of the test runs back in 2006. I'm guessing the plating was installed for anti-vandalism measures.

CJ is a millionaire, yes, but he is also one of the heads of the Grove Street families, as far as I'm concerned(much like the story around Salvatore Leone). That could lead to some interesting missions. As for an older Tommy Vercetti, he does have the same build as him, he could be expanding his business to San Andreas, and the voice actor sounds a lot like him. Who knows?
