Managed Content
« on: January 13, 2012, 02:45:23 pm »
With the release of the newest version of OpenBVE, managed content is now a feature present in the stable version of OpenBVE.

Will the BVEStation downloads be set up to be downloadable by OpenBVE's managed content system in adddition to the ability to manually download content (To provide for continued BVE2 and BVE4 compatibility) ?

Short answer, No

Long answer, because of michelle's restriction placed on the actual system, it is required that all users who wish to have their files available on the managed content system be open source, and public domain.  Any file that is copyright, or has any type of restriction will not be allowed on the managed add-ons system.  In this situation, michelle has control on what content is allowed to show up on that menu.  From what I see, almost no route/train available on BVEStation qualifies.

So, while OpenBVE may be open source, the actual hosting of the repository of these files are not, since it is not something that is downloadable.

As for BVE 2 and 4 compatibility it shouldn't work since the files are directly downloaded to OpenBVE.

In addition, files MUST be repackaged in a way specified on the OpenBVE website.  We do not expect our files to be on that menu anytime soon.
