Title: [RTS] Buses from around Gainesville.
Post by: Bombardier01800 on July 12, 2012, 12:26:27 am
Here are two Gillig buses. The pictures were taken from my phone, and one of them is really obstructed. However, notice the white display.

I also took pictures of two day passes.

$3.00 for the day pass. Regular fare for me is $.75 since I'm a high school student.

Wow that's a great price. It costs $8 here and may even be discontinued. Students from K-12 get 3 free rides per school day, but the card is actually programmed to work every weekday until the end of school including holidays.

I always wondered why the superbright white LED arrays were not used on new NYCT bus orders.

I don't know what to tell you. They're really easy on the eyes though

I always felt that the route number should be orange because it stands out, but text should be displayed with white LEDs instead to make it easier to read quickly.

There are a few Gilligs here in the city running on that private B110 route in Brooklyn. I personally never cared for Gilligs.

They're pretty good in my opinion. The low floor ones have a crappy suspension, probably because of the low floor. The other ones are fine.

Well that crappy suspension is a feature of all low floor buses. The engineering of Gilligs is fine, I just don't really like how they look. Just a bit too boxy I guess.

We do have some RTS buses as well. I'll try to get some pictures.

Any idea on the age of those RTS buses?

The older Gilligs go as far as 93, I believe. RTS has gotten rid of a lot of buses, including some Orions. We get some buses from LYNX as well, but those are mostly used for the UF campus routes. You can tell them apart because LYNX buses are not in the RTS scheme, and sometimes you can read the logos.

Here's an ex-LYNX:

Only with the orange card; doesn't the green card use only get 3 $1.50 bus rides on weekdays excluding holidays?

I think the orange card is for younger students. There's a green card for buses only and a full fare card too.
