Title: Official Thread for the North East Corridor, Amtrak
Post by: ARome on January 24, 2011, 01:35:22 am
You guys may call me crazy but this will be my first route I will be creating. Basically, it's an Amtrak route, yes I know it's long, but it will take time. As of now this will be the map of the route:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=207186238098279516263.00049a7c6b8b274fa3925 (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=207186238098279516263.00049a7c6b8b274fa3925)
There will be an express route as an add on (making it a one stop shuttle)
Just to let you guys know, this will be a long development process, but yeah getting snapshots of each station will be a pain  :-\
But yeah, I'll keep you guys updated once the development begins:)

Good Luck!  Since your doing this scale of a route, just work little by little and employ visual tricks, you may need lots of that. ::)

That huge curve after the Acela exits the tunnel will be annoying to code >.<
Development has begun, This route will be 8 stops long (worth it until the extension) Default train is Acela, I will give you guys an update once i finish coding up the .csv file...

It's still a Google Sketchup model(the conversion process is tricky, but can be done), and from the looks of it it looks like it has roughly 300+ polygons. I wouldn't use it, however, until the original author grants permission. If not, then it's squashed.

Half of the model is made out of PNG images which use alpha channels to make the trusses, railings, etc. transparent, so it would appear is if it is intricate object work, mostly like what we do here. But like Ray said, it still has too many polygons to ever generate positive results on most computers.

Still, it could be used as a basis for much more objects along the Northeast Corridor route.

I suggest you take ray's suggestion and just texture the sides.  They'll be a bit more flat, but it will be million times easier to make.

Just to let everyone know, that the screenshots are Google Sketchup models, NOT BVE models.

found Penn Station

Completely unusable. I would suggest making your own models instead of using the Google 3D Warehouse.

They even created the lower concourse levels. That's got to be well over 20,000 polygons, almost twice as much faces if it were converted to BVE format. Not only that, Old Penn Station was demolished in 1964(minus the tracks and platforms) and was replaced with the current Madison Square Garden complex. You'll have to dig through 47 years of of archives to find enough information(if the city didn't demolish it, then there wouldn't be a problem).

That model cannot be used for OpenBVE. Period.

This is actually a very ambitious project. No one here - as far as I know - has really attempted anything like this but if you have the know-how and the determination for it, go for it.

This is one of the projects that I really would like to succeed.

Here; I believe this is the one you can use for your route: http://pedestrianobservations.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/mnrrv6.pdf (http://pedestrianobservations.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/mnrrv6.pdf)

And here are the other two:

http://pedestrianobservations.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/njseptav5.pdf (http://pedestrianobservations.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/njseptav5.pdf)

Just keep in mind they're big files and stuff, so it may take a little getting used to before you can easily find everything you want quickly. Hope it helps =)

LOL now a REAL treat would be if someone with some spare time decided to make commuter stock (MNRR/LIRR/NJT type trains) so that we can realistically run them on this line. That would be WELL appreciated =)

but the M7 and M3 aren't available for download

I would say just use a real fast train with good braking I guess.

Hey guys =) so I've been looking around for suitable trains to drive on this upcoming route, and I can gladly say that there are several well developed European long distance trains that are suitable for temporary usage until an actual Amtrak train is created.

For instance, I suppose you all remember the famous musical locomotive; the Siemens Eurosprinter ES64U2 Locomotive, yes?

Taurus 1116 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Zu4otEmZOY#)

Well, you can find that set here: http://gothpaladinus.atw.hu/ (http://gothpaladinus.atw.hu/)

The site is in Hungarian, but you can use google translate, or go to the menu tab that says "Letöltések"
Then scroll down to Open BVE Vehicles, and then again to "1116 Taurus RailJet" and click "Letöltés" to save the rar file. you know what to do from there. Hope you guys enjoy it =)

RailJet in openBVE 2011.11.22 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gad4htGfRQM#)

EDIT: If you wish, you can also go here: http://clube-do-bve.blogspot.com/2011/05/siemens-taurus.html (http://clube-do-bve.blogspot.com/2011/05/siemens-taurus.html)
And download the IGBT version of the locomotive (ES64U4) This train lacks a consist, but the trucks of the locomotive pivot, providing a more realistic cornering effect.

@Fan Railer, that's one hell of a train lol. Did they purposely make its propulsion sound like that, or did they happen to make it and it coincidentally sounded like that?
Title: Re: Amtrak from Penn Station, NYC-Westerly, RI
Post by: Dj Hammers on December 31, 2011, 09:48:07 pm
The propulsion sound is a result of the differing Alternating Current Frequencies produced by the Inverter Equipment.

The differing in frequencies is intended as it is used to control the motors, a side effect is the production of the sounds you hear which correspond to the AC frequency.

The propulsion sound is a result of the differing Alternating Current Frequencies produced by the Inverter Equipment.

The differing in frequencies is intended as it is used to control the motors, a side effect is the production of the sounds you hear which correspond to the AC frequency.

Essentially, yes. The ES64U2 uses first generation GTO (Gate turn off thrystors) units to modulate current to the traction motors, while the ES64U4 has second generation IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors).
GTO's have a limited chopping capability, hence the older sounding current noise, which tends to have more distinguished frequency changes, as opposed to the IGBT, which can vary frequency at a much higher rate, which produces not only the higher pitch sound, but the more smooth "sound curve" as seen in the ES64U4. IGBT's tend to be more quiet as well due to this capability.

the Acela was already made. Gotta search
ok good, btw updated the map, only 8 stops, well that's part of the NE region route...
Only problem is that there isnt an online track map :/

You can use MNRR's track map for the NY/CT portion

FanRailer has an AEM7 locomotive with coaches ready to go,
now just need at least a skeleton NEC route for a proper run.

...sit tight, itll take time for me to finish NEC...

No doubt it will be hundreds of hours of work to make a good NEC route!
Give a shout if you need help, as I'm getting fairly good at B3D and basic ANIMATED objects for myself.

Since the sites for the track maps are offline, here's a link to a backup, in case you haven't saved them before they were taken offline:
