It tells you exactly what you need to do:

wine: Install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables

Do that, and it probably will work as expected.

idk if its just me but wen I keep pressing OpenAL it still keeps saying internet explorer cant display webpage so... is this just happening for me or is it happening for everyone?

Try:

http://rallyraid.googlecode.com/files/oalinst.zip

It looks like the connect.creative.com host no longer exists.

No, the request here (as I read it) was to package up all the separate NYCT routes for BVE/OpenBVE into a single download, so I simply made a new Railway directory (folder) and unpacked only the non-fictional routes from the download page here.

Oh, and OpenBVE is not set up to model the whole system, just 1 line in 1 direction at a time.

And www.simulatorcentral.com/index.php/trainz-simulator-12.html is $39.90, whereas OpenBVE is free.

Ok, I think this is as small as I can make it.  I've deleted all the Thumbs.db, rars, zips, and exes.  Everything else is intact (though various readme.txts have been moved to more appropriate subdirectories).

619340 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 634198613 2013-07-21 13:21 /tmp/nonfic.7z

So, 619.3 Meg in a 7z file for all the non-fiction Railways here.

Up to now, I have not paid that much attention to the Trains, but I may be able to do the same for them today and/or tomorrow.

I just tried an experiment with only the non-fiction Railway files.  It comes to ~647.5 MB using 7z and its ultra
compression.  That's not so bad.  I think I left some rar/exe files in that, so I may be able to shave off a couple more
Meg, as well.  I'll fiddle with it & report back, probably later today.

Ya know, if every package -- be it train or route -- was stored such that the only thing necessary was to unpack in the top-level, there would never be such confusion.  It's really a pity that nobody has the guts to actually repackage the ones that aren't set up this way....

Looks great!  Can't wait to get it!

NYCTA Projects / Re: Status of the (D) and (F) Routes.
« on: December 22, 2012, 08:53:28 pm »
I just ran the 4.5.1 version of the F line using the latest openBVE's AI, start to finish (just the 1st route: exp/lcl/exp).  Some comments:

  • it's beautiful;
  • the use of advanced signalling (ST/GT) is great to see;
  • the openBVE's AI has no clue what to do with them!
  • there are a number of switches that are set wrong;
  • there are a few mis-matches of signal to purpose (i.e., a home signal with no associated switch);
  • I'd be happy to be a unit tester;
  • I'd be happy to repackage with no OS-specific issues (*.exe).

I know it had to be a monumental effort, and, like I said, it's really great to look at!  If I wasn't such a techno-geek, it would be just  as great to run through it myself!  Cheers!

One issue I've found is that "7z" extracts with paranoid permissions.  To fix that case:
Code: [Select]
cd /usr/share/games/bve
sudo find . -type d -exec chmod go+rx '{}' ';'
sudo find . -type f -exec chmod go+r '{}' ';'

The easiest way is to install the routes and trains under Windows, and then
in Linux create a Short Cut to these folders.

Earlier versions of Linux do not support short cuts, in which case you have to
drag the "Train" and "Railway" folders across.

To make this work, you have to set your computer up as a dual Windows/Ubuntu boot,
using the "WUBI" method.

If you have both the Windows and Linux version of OpenBVE, then the Linux version can
access the \UserData\LegacyContent folder.

I have discussed this project in more detail on my blog
http://hornbyrailway.wordpress.com/

Or what if I have a Dell that was built only to run Linux?  I did this to avoid the Microsoft tax on most PCs.

The shame of it is, if every Railway or Train was a simple zip or 7zip archive with only the files that belong under the bve/openbve data root (/usr/share/games/bve on my machine), then nobody gets excluded!
