The R44 train is going to be sent out to some beta testers tonight, TO-NIGHT!
video will be posted very soon.
-------
This was the original thread for my R44 project (http://www.bvestation.com/forums/index.php?topic=4501.0).
-
HOLY S#!T ive been long waiting for this! I so can not wait ;D ;D ;D. I see you fixed that "west code" thing that 2 train master mentioned in the old forums
-
Excellent! This panel is the bomb-dig-ady! I' ;Dm hype now
-
Will this include the exterior and sound upgrades from the original? looking good!

Definitely. The sound has been totally improved. I will be uploading a video later that will demonstrate the features this train has. It is exciting to have animated knobs and a horn, as well as working wipers and JayJay's 3D interior/exterior trainset. More will be seen in video footage.

That looks really good man!! One thing I want to point out that I see missing is the lightup enablers on the dashboard. They should be like a dim yellowish color. When the button is pressed by the T/O the light goes out when the doors are closed and locked it goes back yellow. But some R-44's had it kind of like a bluish/green.

So, those should have some light in them? I can fix that before sending this out. Thanks for pointing that out!

Yea its basically the indication for when the doors are locked/open on the side of the train. Its obvious which side opens which side though. Is it possible you can delay the door openings. Most or all the R-44's take a while to get the doors open b\c the enabler is/was very old so it was like a 2sec delay.
And I never seen that "locked" indication lit up before just the enablers.

Notice like I said before some were like a blusih/green and some were like a dirty/dim yellow.Doesn't matter to me but its your train your choice.

The second picture makes the cabview way too high

It doesn't look so in any of the NYCT BVE routes. This is a European route I tested the train on, for light and dark lighting. ;D

Great Job!

They both look high to me obviously b\c the entire panel can't be seen. And can you trim the cab pic a bit by cutting the left side at the door handle.

In OpenBVE (dunno for the previous versions), but you can zoom in/out, pan left/right up and down. I designed nearly a full cab view, where the important areas are necessary to see. Using the up and down keyboard arrows, you can pan around.
Also remember, this is a European route, not NY. In NY, this train doesn't look so high because maybe the developers of the European routes do a different job for their type of trains. I mean notice in the second pic, the station appears pretty low. They could have elevated it just a little for some realism. I haven't encountered one problem using my R44 (or R40) with a NYC route.
-
London Underground Deep tube stock trains are much shorter in height. That's why the cab seems pretty high.
-
No problem. By the way, I can find you a good motor sound recording if you're still using the stock nycta motor sound. I can wait a few extra days and drive an R44 with a sound-realistic motor, if you haven't included it already.
-
can i beta test

The sounds I have were recorded by me and these are final for this project. Thanks, anyway.
Wait...what I would need is the sound 2 train master inquired about in the old thread- "when the person wraps it up(max power) it hits that knob and makes a sound". If you could help with that, that would be great!
-
can i please beta test

Sorry bro, I have a list ready to email. They were the ones that helped improving (and still are) the project. Without them, this would not had been a decent R44 train. And much thanks to JayJay for lending his interior/exterior, otherwise this would have been just a full cab view train to release.
You will enjoy this train once it had been fixed, completed and publicly released.

Umm sorry dont have the recording its not serious though b\c it depends on the force the operator puts when wrapping the controller.

When it passes through beta testing and when all of the fixes have been made to the train

Its supposed to be released when the last SMEE's retire.

I'll beta test this fine train ;D

15yrs or so.

Look its called patience, when its released its released. There is no "exact" release dates on projects, Its up to the developer if its ready or not.

ha...
Really good work Zerobeats!
-
Damn zerobeats thats an amazing job! I love what you did to the panel!
By the way you can use the controller sounds from the R38 if you ask Rayvon for permission.
When will it be released????
When the author is done with it. BVE content takes GARGANTUAN amounts of work to create, in fact I really doubt that most people can realistically fathom the massive amounts of time and work required to create these payware-quality addons for the public to use for free. Because of this, it is hard for authors to give realistic release dates.
-
By the way you can use the controller sounds from the R38 if you ask Rayvon for permission.
When wrapping up the controller you just hear the brakes release theres no sound to the controller except when applying a good amount of force to wrap the train up and when the MC is released its a pop sound and the train will be in full service or dumped. But that can be recorded on the 46's.
-
Is it to late to beta test? :o
-
Smooth23 and Shawn1995:
As zerobeats mentioned on pitor160's post, the BETA testers were predetermined and will not change. Furthermore, he will not be accepting any other BETA testers.

Thank U

That looks alot like the cob down here in Philly for our Broad St. Subway
-
Another thing when the doors are locked and closed the dashboard enabler lights up depending on whatside the doors are closed and locked. And the brake pressure lights up.
-
the brake pressure lights up.
I almost forgot about that, that has to get worked on. Thanks for pointing it out!
Edit- Just tried adding the gauge light by extending the door light pic and putting the gauge light to the end, it works but with a problem... between the speedometer there's a conflict.
-
Make everything blue (transparent) except for the light and gauge.
You don't have to put a background photo for the gauge - you can use the door light bmp as your gauge background.

That's what I did. This is the conflict I was talking about:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)
I think it has to do with the digi speedo in bewtween EDIT: the problem IS the light to dark transitions. It works well in other routes that don't support light/dark.
-
Another thing I forgot!! The FULL SERVICE when the R-44's go in Full service its like a squeak sound.I'm telling you they may have been garbage trains to a lot but they're very unique. Its so much about these cars thats awesome! Thats the best I got but the damn HVAC's are kinda loud but u can still hear the squeak.

Ask TJay to use his Master Controller sound from his R32 update. I think you're looking for the one that plays when you hit full power

will this train be BVE4 compatible? just curious

This train is breath taking
-
Just being curious I just wanted to know if this train will still have rollsign that are changeable? If so will u have the K on it?
-

Mhmm...good question but it may be a lot of work since the train has LCD's.But I rather have changeable rollsigns than non-changeable with LCD displays.
-

Yes, rollsigns and LCD displays are changeable.

How far along are you in the project zerobeats?
He sent me the project so i can animate a few more buttons and fix a few bugs . after thats done ill send the train back to zerobeats and the train should be ready to be released

I don't think so...

Is there and veiw of the exterior? Let me rephrase that. I mean can ypu put up a pic of the actual exterior or do you wanna keep it a surprise?

I believe its done it just needs to be slapped on the train once the main work is done.Basically putting the icing on the cake.

Gauge light completed.
Adding a full lighting to the pressure gauge when the door light comes on was not possible because the new lighted gauge image overlapped the needles. (Hmmm....I'm going to try using alpha channels ???). So I made a ring light instead, so that the needles can still be seen. I also corrected the issue with the green light and fixed the speedo.

Thanks guys and definitely, Mr. Railfan.

Now that's what I call a train? Quick question though... now is the train going to have regular sounds or the whirrling motors?
-
Now that's what I call a train? Quick question though... now is the train going to have regular sounds or the whirrling motors?
I'm curious as well. I hope this will feature whirrling motors!
By the way, I'm concerned with the exterior. The undercar seems way too small in comparison with the rest of the carbody itself. The wheels and the axel seem way too small!
The doors also seem to hug the edges of the train far too much, when there should be a small gap between the edges of the window and the edge of the train. The door image used as the animated object also stands out with the rest of the car. Seems more like an R160 door instead of an R44.
But great work nevertheless! The panel looks great!
MY COMMENTS ARE TO BE VIEWED AS CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM!

They can but they'll ask for you to work their job,pay their rent and bills, buy food and stuff laundry and then they get to sit back relax and code all day.I would say that if I was developing and someone rushed me.(Pay my bills,do my work etc.) But I want my tax money.

Yeah the fact of the matter is that to get this content for free from people who volunteer their time is a blessing and not something to take for granted. You never know what you have once it is gone....

The only modification done under the body was cleaning up the black graphics and make the axels and boxes "appear", then adding and aligning the wheels Andrew sent me. So under the body remained untouched other than graphics cleaning.
This is the same wheels and axles on a side angle. Is that looking better?
@ Shawn1995, this train is under construction.
-
@Simon: There is a fine line between constructive criticism and nitpicking. I'd tell you what side you're on already, but after four years I think you know that by now.
3D-ing the underbody does not mean making the wheels 3D. It means actually going under there and making every separate box for all of the hanging equipment, and placing both 3D axles and wheels, and trucks. The underbody can be part of the side texture, just as long as all the dark areas around the equipment is transparent.

I believe there's a misunderstanding. I could care less about 3D-ing the underbody or the wheels, but it looks like they're going to add a bit more detail to the axles which is a great thing.
What I'm concerned about is the PROPORTION between the car structure itself and everything else below that point. From the given visuals, it looks like the R46 has the same problem as the R160, the car structure will not align correctly with the platform. The underbody seems too small height wise, and as a result, the doors will sink below the platform. There is a fix to this if you modify the texture and make the underbody a bit larger to avoid this problem, however, with the introduction of a more detailed axle, I don't know how easy it will be to fix it now.
-
Since you guys are talking about the axel/wheel/trucks or whatever why not use the ones made for the R-62/A? To me all SMEE trucks look the same(Redbirds to the 68's) not sure about Pre-Redbird trains but the trucks all look similar they may not be the or look the same but they're very alike.

I assure you, there are differences that are not minute but very obvious. You determine whether one is a truck from the IRT or the IND/BMT that way.

Ok b\c many R-32's and 42's have trucks from the R-29's and other Redbirds on them.I really don't see a big difference in the SMEE trucks which is why I bought up the idea of using the ones from the 62/A.

theres really not much of a difference.Maybe the length of the truck.

Hmm, IRT SMEE trucks are compatible with IND/BMT cars? I would think that the IRT SMEE trucks and the IND/BMT SMEE trucks would be interchanged with their respective classes, otherwise that wouldn't explain some changes that I would see if your explanation is true. I would think the R32 and the R42 trucks came from either new ones or from the R27/R30/R30A.
When you compare the trucks from the R32 and the R42 to the rest of the existing SMEE fleet then there should be obvious differences, if you look closely. I highly doubt there is a change in length though.
-

See, this is why I encourage you to get into developing, because everything you just said was redundant.
If the underbody had been 3D, like I just said, then its proportions would have been just right. The reason for that is because the wheels are needed to be visible, so the vertices of the faces that are textures are applied to are raised a bit, creating the small underbody problem(which in actuality, raises the entire side texture which is never really separated from the underbody, and makes the doors higher than the platform), which is another reason why they should be 3D objects(I did the same thing with the first version of the R62, so I should know).
Gong Gahou is right though. I just skimmed through my texture library for a moment, and noticed the small differences in the truck textures. but that is very small, and I can swap out the R62 truck textures with that of the other SMEEs at any time, depending on the model(since the entire truck model is made primarily out of textures). I'll see about converting them sometime.

Dude there is no way that is true. On the IRT trucks the emergency brake triggers for the tripcocks are not on the same side as on the BMT/IND trucks, rendering them non-interchangeable.

Ik but this is BVE.I don't want anything thrown on the 44 but ya know. The LUL 95 stock doesn't have a tripcock in BVE on the trucks but surely the train can be tripped. So it doesn't matter to me anymore.

I got you on that. Since the wheels are 3D, everything else should be. I could get started with the 3D objects when Mr. Railfan sends me the new textures. Can I send you the R44 so you can throw on the R62 trucks and see how it looks like?

The train looks good.

BStyles
I got you on that. Since the wheels are 3D, everything else should be. I could get started with the 3D objects when Mr. Railfan sends me the new textures. Can I send you the R44 so you can throw on the R62 trucks and see how it looks like?
Sure you can. It shouldn't take me too long.

Can't wait guys
-
As long as it has that great brake release I'm good so Thanks for bringing a great subway train type back.
-
when is this come out for openbve

Haha
-
when is this come out for openbve
The 12th of never. LOL! The train is getting there, patience young lad.
-
Awesome! This train will go nicely w\ the new R46 that is coming out by June! ;D Can't wait for it ;D
-
I anticipate this train's arrival on BVE
-
Just a small update. Working on the trucks.

This Looks Awesome Man :) cant wait till it comes out
-
Any updates?
-
Is there going to be a pack With R44 and R46?
-
Any updates?
I have talked with zerobeats2000 recently and he says he is still working on the R44.
-
When the developer responds to the topic with pictures and/or other media relating to the development at hand, then there will be an update. It it has been cancelled, stalled, or postponed in any way, either the developer, or a moderator/administrator will update the topic. Since the last update, its only been a month, and iirc he said he was busy.

Any updates?
My computer has been braking down on me, slowing my progress. I'm getting ready to send out a BETA 3 which includes the IMD/BMT and SIRT. New sounds and lots of improvements done.
The R44 SIRT comes in a set of 4 cars consisted of even and odd #s (A B B A), has a new panel with a new controller, rollsigns and more.
I found a cool Westcode logo but waiting for permission to use it. Hopefully I get a response before the R44 is ready to release.

Why will there be 3 versions instead of 2? Are you talking about like a Blue Stripe,GOH and SIRT version?
-
I'm always willing to beta for you Zero
-
May I test?
-
i like to beta test if u don't mind
-
can i also beta test :)
-
I know I already asked to be a beta tester in the other forums but to be sure I'll be a tester.
-
I'd like to formally ask to BETA test lol.
-
Can I BETA test? Pretty please with sugar and a cherry on top schemat (http://schematy.w.interia.pl/)?
-
May I beta test?
-
Can I beta-test too please? Please, and if not this train, can I please beta-test your NEXT project? ;D
-
Will this beta release feature an upgrade from the generic motor sound? That's the primary thing I'm looking forward to in this R44 release!
-
;DI wanna be included ;D
-
Will this beta release feature an upgrade from the generic motor sound? That's the primary thing I'm looking forward to in this R44 release!
If not we can get that from the 68's since the NYCT 44's and 68's have Westinghouse motors the 44's on SI sound exactly like the NYCT R-46's.
I would like to BETA test also for speed and braking reasons ya know me ;D
-
May I also beta test please?
-
may i Beta test. Please ;D
-
I got a response from the website that has the Westcode logo and they said they are not affiliated with them, they just provide searchable databases to registered trademarks. So I wrote directly to Westcode, so lets see what they say.
BETA testers will receive a pm from me. This will be the final testing before a public release.
Why will there be 3 versions instead of 2? Are you talking about like a Blue Stripe,GOH and SIRT version?
There's only two versions, GOH and SIRT. These train sets have service letters and route destinations for the IND/BMT and SIRT routes.
-
Ok cool! The controllers will be the same or different?
-
Ok cool! The controllers will be the same or different?
Probably different, because the SIRT R44's have a completely different panel and controller than the IND/BMT ones. http://www.flickr.com/photos/29997762@N05/4744659612/# (http://www.flickr.com/photos/29997762@N05/4744659612/#)
Also, IIRC, unlike the R46, the R44 had the same panel and controller in both its Pre-GOH and Post-GOH states.
-
I know that already but Zero didn't show any pic of the SIR R-44 panel which is why I asked.
-
Controller will be different, of course. I did a new controller, as I mentioned on page 7. ;) The panel is also different, with some cool new features too early to discuss and will not be in the BETA version

-
Example:

Nice! ;D
-
Update:
Left and right door lights now functional. Yes, that means when one or both sides of the cars have opened doors, the main door light on the panel and the left or right or both operator lights (which ever side the door has opened) turns off. When the doors on either side closes, the main panel light (green) comes on and so does the operator light of whichever side the door closed. Long story short, when all 3 green lights are on, it's safe to drive.
Also, still no response from Westcode, so we might not get a Westcode printed on the controller (before the public release). Shout out to the people testing the BETA 3 version! And special thanks to everyone for their input into this project. Without you guys, this would not have been the R44 it is becoming.
-
Is it ready for download?
-
No. It is still being worked on.
-
Is it ready for download?
If the thread title is "R44 Train near completion", you'd think that would imply that the train isn't finished yet, no?
-
Okay thanks!
-
This train will have an exterior if I am not mistaken- correct - https://www.facebook.com/piloty.tv (https://www.facebook.com/piloty.tv) ? Will it have animated doors/signs/etc.?
-
The train does have an exterior and has animated side signs and doors.
-
Sounds cool! http://piloty.eu/ (http://piloty.eu/) piloty
-
Will the exterior be just as realistic/detailed as the new R46 exterior?

That looks cool Zero! 1 thing that is bothering me is the rollsign it should be boxed in for the NYCS and SI R-44's.

http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?109978 (http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?109978)
Noticed how they look perfectly squared.
The NYC Subway Rollsign/Endsigns are boxed in with 2 squares which is why it is very easy to tell if an R-46 or 44 is coming in b\c the R-44's rollsigns are dimmer lite and lower and obviously boxed in smaller.
http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?112180 (http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?112180)
All I'm suggesting is making the end signs a bit smaller. If you don't have the time to do it I am willing to fix that problem and make the signs myself or resize them.
Looks great!

That's not exactly true. A lot of NYCT R44s look just the same as the R44 SIRTs in terms of rollsign looks.
http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?43541 (http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?43541)
http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?111740 (http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?111740)
I guess what I'm showing here is old glass and what you're showing is a newer version that replaced the older?
And also, zerobeats, you forgot to remove the carbon steel band on the R44 SIRT.
Other than that, this looks great! :)
-
The Subway 44's do have 2 squares compared to the SI 44's b\c they don't have the circle with the letter its just a perfect square end/rollsign.But its not much of a big deal just decrease the size of the end signs and possibly put a square so the rollsign will look more smushed instead stretched out in size.
-
whom are the beta testers?
-
Looking good! ;D But keep in mind that the SIRT R44's don't have the white band on the side, basically the SIRT R44's are identical to the R46's on the outside. The SIRT R44's also have light-blue seats as well IIRC. But it looks very good so far! Can't wait to see what the finished SIRT panel will be like ;D
-
All of the GOH R46's have white bands on the sides, because there's a blue band underneath.

Well, that sign will have to go on to both the interior window on the doors and the exterior, so it will have to be in the exact spot where the exterior sign is on the interior side. In other words, if the sign is just planted on the exterior side of the door, the text will appear backwards on the interior side of the door since it goes on the window. That is one nice looking interior BTW ;D

He could let that sign have one face instead of two, and put something in that same spot but with an opposite face.

zerobeats2000, I can make those windows separating the door area from the seat area look dirty and smudged like they usually are in real life. Right now, those windows being perfectly clear gives the illusion of them being not there as on the R46.
-
Train looks beautiful! This is going to be as good as the 160! However, just to clear things up:
- You are missing the barrier / the gap space between the wall and the door like what Pacific pointed out. Don't know why, but this seems like a reoccurring problem not only on this train, but on the 179 exterior as well.
- It would be great if you could add that illusion like what zerobeats pointed out before.
- The length of the door seems to be a bit off. You can't clearly see the Do Not Lean on Doors sticker that's usually situated above the windows.
MINOR THINGS (things that could be improved, but wouldn't be absolutely necessary)
- The floor doesn't look visually appealing. Nothing too big, but try to find a way to make it look not as stretched out.
- This might make the train lag due to the extra polys, but is it possible to make the gap between the exterior and the interior show so that there's the handrest that's present on the windows.
- The radiators under the seats
Other than that the train looks absolutely amazing!
-
Yeah, and also, you can see in the photo Pacific385 posted that the pairs of tranverse seats are the same color (Yellow, yellow, orange, orange, etc.) but in that interior you made, they are different colors (Yellow, orange). Not that big of a deal, but accuracy, accuracy, accuracy ;)
-
Lmao,i just noticed that too!! :D
-
To me, the seats doesn't really matter. As long as you get an exterior its good with me, but if Zero decides to switch up on the seats then thats his decision.
-
Thank you guys for the errors you pointed out. You are all very helpful to make this R44 interior, exterior and panel as perfect as possible. Just keep in mind that this is JayJay85's interior, not mine. I can do some more modifications to the interior, but that will be all. With time running out and continuing to do more fixing, I hope it comes to the perfect interior everyone's looking for in BETA 3.1. I got a big vacation coming up next week, so I will try send out a BETA 3.1 before I leave. That means, the following will get corrected:
-The bottom radiators will get done
-The floor resolution will be increased
-Transverse seats will have same colors
-New and improved sounds
-Original trucks that were part of the front and side pics (sorry guys, time)
-Caution signs on R44 SI doors
-Additional improvements DJ Hammers adds to BETA 3.1
-After I test the BETA 3.1 update, it will be sent in to add to the downloads
If these can't get done soon, this project will have to be suspended until after September, and the R40 slant even later.
Update:
It came out a bit stretched from the b3d file, but I will fix that.
Also be advised the side seats will get touched up.
-
Hopefully you get to finish best of luck to you Zero and all help is available
-
The train is coming along nicely and it gives me the feel of operating a true NYC train. One thing I have to say though from testing on routes of our specifications that Joe was right in pointing out that the cab view is a little too high. Other than that, a masterpiece.
-
The doors on the car seem to stand out to me.. they sorta look like they were taken from an NTT train

Hmmm, try these values out in the .dat file:

eh -200 is too much, remember this is in millimeters, so you have to imagine yourself actually sitting in a cab. Plus I tried it out on the R62A and it came out perfect lol

Does anyone have an update of this train??? Haven't heard anything from Zero since July.
-
Ok I got sick of the countless PMs and EMails about this train.
Here is a preview video, now stop bothering me about this train please Zerobeats will be back when he is back SMH you know who you are.

Nice, glad to hear this project is back underway ;) Just wondering, will the final product have ZeroBeats' original panel, or will you make a new one?
-

The NYCT version will have zerobeats2000's panel (with some improvements).
The SIRT version (which will most likely come later) will have a completely different panel, since the SIRT R44 panel is completely different in real life.
-
Sounds good. Just wondering, will the train make a realistic sound when slowing down and the brakes are in action? The OTT's vibrate a bit when slowing down from a high speed, and none of our OTT's on here make that distinctive vibrating sound yet. So it would be great if it would be implemented into this train.

I think that it may be possible to implement this sort of a vibration sound by using motor sounds that play,
only when the train is decelerating, but I would require some assistance in doing this from somebody who knows
how to implement motor sounds on trains in the train.dat file.
Additionally, I am looking in to simulating the lag between when the air brakes and dynamic brakes start applying.
On trains with SMEE and RT-2 braking, the air brakes begin braking the train about half a second before the dynamic
brakes apply. Hopefully I can get this implemented too.

Motor sounds in the train.dat file are simple enough once you get the hang of it. Still takes a good while though. The key is getting the correct sound clip to play for the specific sound you want to loop. after that, it's trial and error to see if you can get it to sound perfect. It's a lot easier with the new openBVE train editor, but that program has gone offline as far as i know, and you can't find it anywhere. But I'm sure if you really want it, someone will be able to send it to you.

I actually have train editor, I will play around with it and see what I can do. With regards to hosting, I will probably upload the train editor along with object view, object bender, and route viewer to http://www.openBVE.org (http://www.openBVE.org) sometime soon.

Do we have sounds for the R44 yet? it should sound like the R68 a little bit if im not mistaken.
-
Once i have a chance to ride the Staten Island Railway again, hopefully we can modify the model for the R46 to create the R44. Should be fairly easy to modify from the original sketchup file. It would be complicated to modify the B3D files due to the nature of how the blender plugin triangulates the faces.
As for the SIR version, nyctrman and I are taking care of that, so that DJ Hammers can focus on the NYCT R44.

I am not sure if you need it or not, but I can get some SIRT R44 blue seat textures, to save you a bit of trouble. I have not really gotten a chance to contribute to anything yet, I would love to have a shot at the R44.

The NYCT R44s sounded close the R68s, but it was not exactly a perfect sound match. The R44s
have a different brake release sound that is unique to the R44s only, and differing soundproofing between the R68s
and R44s led to different run sounds.

Alright then. If I need anything, I'll be sure to ask you.

I played the older R44 BETA without the exterior, and I knew that something great was to come. Great work, and I love what is being done since the BETA. The cab looks amazing, and I can not wait until the official release date.
-
Like I said in an earlier post, this model is the grandad of all 75 foot cars. What a wonderful tribute!

work is progressing very slowly. Work on the exterior is on hold for now because I am short on time right now. I am working a little on the cab however.
-
alright cool

I can't wait to drive the R44 and the R38s on the A line. Those were the days wen the A line was filled with them 44s and 38s. Hope everything goes well Dj hammers
-
And now they are running only R46's and nothing Else lol
-
I know right lol, but at least those 46s look similar to the 44s the thing tht I liked the most about the 44s was definately the whining sound wen it would cross the Jamaica bay oh god those used to whine like nothin else lol
-
The R44s had this characteristic brake release that came from the magnetically-actuated brake valve.
As for progress on the train, the panel is being worked on slowly, but work on the exterior is stalled because we are tied up dealing with other exteriors.
-
Now that the R38 has been released, work on the R44 is starting up again. I know you guys have been waiting on this one for a VERY long time, so I'm doing my best to finish it up quick. Right now most of the work that needs to be done is sound work, which I'm working on now.
After that I will touch up the panel a bit. Keep in mind that we don't have a suitable picture of an R44 cab, so the current drawn cab will be used unless somebody can get me a (GOOD) cab view shot of the R44 from the perspective of the T/O.

Is this R44 going to be frame rate friendly?, because the R46 is not frame rate friendly at all.

Is this R44 going to be frame rate friendly?, because the R46 is not frame rate friendly at all.
The R44 is going to be slightly more framerate friendly, but only by a little bit. I get around 27FPS on the R46, I get 29FPS on the R44.
We are doing our best to keep FPS up, but keep in mind that this train is extremely detailed, so you can't expect something above 35FPS unless you have an extremely modern and fast computer.
With that being said, new high-res textures are being put in:

Sounds like an R32/38 from the motor and run sounds. Break air release is close to the real thing. I remember most of the R44s had this weird sounding release at the last break notch
-
Theres a few youtube videos you can use for the right run sound and what not and then the initial motor sound isnt like it and hte brake sound arent the same as the R44 the old R44 BVE used to have had the sound but it needed a little tweak
-
I think it's still a work in progress, and they are just using the R32 sounds as a place holder. Being this is the same team that made both the R32,38 and R46 (and others), I think it's safe to say they know what an R44 sounds like. In fact the sounds of the OpenBVE R46 are very close to what the R44 sounds like, especially the brake release sounds at least Pre overhaul. Having rode the R44 everyday back in the 70's on the D line.

As stated above some of the sounds are placeholder sounds. The brake release sound is actually recorded from a real R44 back in 2010 when they were still in service, but I'll tweak it a bit more.

Is this R44 going to feature Fan Railer's WH 1447J motor sound?

Definetly not today. The panel is still being worked on. But it will be released in the next couple of days.

Oh i may want to keep you all remind what R44 has:
Micro led switching inside cab which is easy for you to catch to stop switching. Led Side keep changing and missing what you are looking for

-
To add on to what Mudwrestle posted, the R44 exteriors and sounds are finished. Right now we are focusing on finishing the panel, which is a difficult task due to the lack of good photos of the cab that provide the correct perspective. Rest assured the R44 is still in development.
-
Will the SIR rollsigns be present on the rollsign system on this train?
Don't forget that if/when a Staten Island Railway R44 is made it will have to have modified textures and a different cab panel, possibly with a semi-operational SIR cab signal system, in addition to a different rollsign. So it wouldn't be something that would be that easily made.
-
Can't wait for the R44's release!
