In most cases, the fancy visual styles tend to create lag when it comes to 3D games. Most important, the Aero experience on Windows Vista and Windows 7 tends to hog up some video card space, and by disabling aero with the method specified above, it may result in better FPS.

For me, disabling the aero experience on my Windows Desktop resulted in MUCH smoother gameplay for me, and better framerates for recording OpenBVE videos VIA Fraps. Results will vary depending on hardware configuration

Another suggestion. The other forum was right regarding handle names instead of their names due to confusion on who is who.

It would be a good idea if we used names and initials as to ease confusion. This would be especially important for people who need to contact others for permission.

The format would be a first name, then optionally the initial to their last name or a last name. Of course, one doesn't have to use their REAL name, but would serve mainly for contact purposes

for example i would be Chris T., error46146 would be Bill, or Bill T. Or let's say RachelBerryFan47 doesn't want to use their real name, So Rachel B, Rachel, Rachel Berry can be used instead

Chris T
New Recruit

Even if it's not their displayed name, it can be used as a custom title below their handle name, for example

NYZ3R0DAY
New Recruit
Chris T

these are all just suggestions, just to ease the confusion regarding who is who.

It would be a good idea to use the names when it comes to route and train releases since it would be easier to search the name instead of their handle names.

You know, it would be a good idea to at least provide a 15 minute time limit before any user is unable to edit posts. I find myself having to delete my own posts only because of a typo i missed or a broken link. If not, i end up having to multi-post, which is already getting annoying.

Now this is equipment! I like the way this is coming out so far, NYZ3R0DAY.

I have one question. How do you achieve such a smooth framerate with your video capture? What program do you use? Better yet, what codec do you use? I've been trying to get that sort of quality on my videos for the longest time now. lol

Anyway, enough questions. I'll let you develop. This project shows a lot of promise to it. I'm a little biased of course because I've always had an affinity toward SMEE equipment but, quality-wise, its great. Keep up the  work.

I actually use FRAPS for this. The video card in my system is a 1GB PCIe NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT. I have it recording at the highest settings the video card allows me.

General BVE/OpenBVE / Re: R38 Rollsign Editing
« on: November 19, 2011, 05:25:00 pm »
Yeah i have seen this issue before. I'm not sure what causes it.... I used to think it was caused by anti-virus software but now i'm not so sure if it is or isn't.

However, if you are having this problem, I would advise people to try disabling their anti virus programs temporarily and see if it solves the problem.

Also, it doesn't seem to work at all on Mac OS. I get an error about the plugin being Windows-Only, and it won't give me the option to ignore

Speaking of rollsigns, sometimes when you try to edit the animated file, there's a strange bug where the normal ATS/ATS RUN indicators show and the animated rollsigns won't work (Notably, Route will change when brakes applied, Southbound terminal will change while running, instead of responding correctly to it's proper 0 and 9 keys)

This rollsign style were used on the R16, R27, R30, R32 and R38 class (even though some still had the older pre-1967 signage). Due to limited resources, i did my best to get it as accurate as possible. Feel free to use it. Content released UNDER a Creative Commons License

MIB2's classic subway scene..that was all done on a set, they probably modeled it on an R32 lol..

Then how come it has the drop-sash windows found on the R27/R30 instead of the picture windows. Also, in the interior, you can see the axiflow fans instead of the post-GOH air conditioning vents.

Other Games / Garry's Mod
« on: November 09, 2011, 09:57:26 pm »
Well, while it doesn't have a true definition of a game, it's very popular for those who love to mess around with props, and several youtube movies are often made in Garry's Mod (the infamous Louis and his pills, for example)

It's pretty much a sandbox which lets you do whatever you want. One can download maps, props, vehicles, ragdolls, non-player characters, weapons, etc and customize to their needs

They even have maps and props which allow you to build a fully working train set.

Anyone here plays this game?

Whether actual subway cars, mock-up props, or modified subway cars, post em here!

Here's an R27/R30/R30A subway car that was modified so it would look like an R32. The drop-sash window is a dead giveaway, as well as the lack of metal rims on the door windows (showing the black rubber-like rims)

Users will also not allowed to edit their posts

Good luck with that, should that be enforced. Another hobby forum i am part of attempted this and it was a disaster - unnecessary multiple posts to update info on their thread (for example, dead links) due to the inability to edit their posts.

I do not know if SMF supports the ability to batch delete posts by a single user (with a single click).

If you do decide to enforce the edit post rule, there should be a timer that the user can edit their post before they are unable to. Usually 30 minutes is enough for revisions after a post is made. Just prepare to deal with multiple posts for a single reply/post update.

i don't know if anyone has ever noticed, but the way the R142A's start accelerating, the propulsion sound reminds me of the end of the song "99 Luft balons" (99 Red Balloons) , which ends in a similar sound.
