National Train Day
« on: May 12, 2012, 10:26:28 pm »
Hey!

Today I was going down into the city on the Hudson Line for an event.  At 125th Street I noticed a bunch of photographers at the end of the platform.  Then, as we were pulling out, I saw an Acela trainset being pulled by a Metro North P32.  I literally went right to the bathroom and splashed cold water on my face to make sure I was awake.  As I later found out, it was National Train Day.  But that had me wondering, why put an Acela on Park Ave on MNCR trackage, rather then in Penn where they could use the catenary and be in Amtrak territory? Why even use an Acela in the first place HDCP?  Anyone have any insight to this?

Penn station had no capacity available to host national train day yesterday, so Amtrak used GCT instead.

Amtrak put an Acela on display because it is their flagship train.
