Hammers, I suggest contacting the person who made the original R36, because it's rather accurate soundwise. At least from old videos I've heard...

It's gonna have the R-12, 15, 17 right? (as exterior ((possible interior))?)

If I can get permission, sure.

Some work is being done sound-wise on the R33-ML. Expect a better screeching sound as well as better run sounds.

The RFW version of the R33-WF is progressing slowly due to school work.

Alright guys id like to show you a preview on another project that im working on = The R33 Worlds Fair Scheme . I am aware that Dj hammers is working on the Train Of Many Colors and i look forward on working with him on both this and the TOMC . This train will be a 5th generation train and will work on any new IRT OpenBVE route. It will also have working rollsigns and a fully detailed exterior. here is the preview of the cab panel:

[Please note that these cab pictures where taken of the r33 single unit that is at the transit museum and may vary slightly from the R33WF married pairs consists ]
[Also please note this not the final version , i may add some cosmetic changes ]

For people who dont know what the r33WF is heres a pic [Credit to NycSubway.org and Rich Panse]

Post by: Dj Hammers on February 13, 2011, 02:25:44 am
This thread will be for the R33-WF and R33-WF RFW view ONLY.

The R33-ML will remain in the original thread (Which has had it's name changed from the TOMC thread to the R33-ML thread)

Here is the link to the R33-ML thread: http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=86.new#new (http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=86.new#new)

BTW Mr. Railfan I can deal completely with the RFW view version that I was working on before; the panel is pretty much done. When the normal R33-WF is finished on your end, send it to me and I will basically synchronize the two trains in terms of sounds and performance and I will put some finishing touches on them like windshield wipers, etc.

Other Random Note:

Does anybody know what happened to that Redbird exterior being created back on the old forums?

Because of recent developments the TOMC project has been split. The R33-WF and R33-WF RFW view is going forward as a joint project between me and Mr. Railfan.

As for the R33-ML, work will continue to progress slowly due to the large amount of work I have in school this year (You all have NO idea how much it is :P).

Sure No probs .

Btw you do know that the windshield wiper was operated by this lever :
and will have to be synchronized with the actual windshield because the TO would have to move that every time he needed to operate the windshield wipers.

Yeah that should be easy to implement (in fact a similar feature is implemented in the R38)

Just one question, to turn on the wiper, do you pull the lever up or down?

Just keep in mind that these features can only be implemented in a train using the panel2.cfg system and not the panel.cfg system.

The train looks beautiful! This is going to be a classic on the future (7) by EDawg!

By the way, do you guys know which  propulsion system the R33WF uses and what trains sound similar to it? I have a few recordings of 32s and I'll gladly contribute them if the 33WFs sounded like them.

I believe the windshied wiper is manually...

Also, remember the R33WF at the TM has an old rollsign on one side, and in the other one it has a recent one.

It was the same as the ML just with a few design differences so I would say either that, the R36 or the R38. I may be wrong but that's what I remember

the lever at this picture is down and moves in a clockwise direction . on my r30 cab you can see it in an upright position.

The propulsion will be tricky if we want it to be accurate; the R33-WF in the TM still has field shunting activated. Basically the motors will sound a little bit higher-pitched and will have a bit more of an air sound.

Look at the end of this video when the redbird is leaving Flatbush to see what I mean (It's at around 3:50 in the video):
The R110A NEW TECH "SCHOOL CAR" TRAIN (1994) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqeAnrSJcnQ#)

this is pretty much the epitome of pre-1995 (Williamsburg Bridge Crash) redbird propulsion and is what we need ideally.

No I don't have an exterior.

Look in the A line object folder, there is an R33WF on that route.

Ask for permission first though, IDK who made it.

Btw I can get handhold textures for an interior.

Also anyone with videos of the R33-WF either post them here or PM me please.

R33-WF development is moving along....

Here is the R33-WF RFW view. It is good for checking out newly released routes that you don't know the layout of using the AI function. It also gives you a nice RFW view that won't kill your FPS as in exterior RFW views. You can also tilt the camera up and down very far; you can even see the top of the storm door!
(http://img816.imageshack.us/img816/7306/whyhellothere.png) (http://img816.imageshack.us/i/whyhellothere.png/)

And here is the cab view, which looks quite nice:

Along with Mr. Railfan, i'm looking forward to releasing this train as another free contribution to the BVEStation community!  ;)

Along with all of the other train projects I am involved with, the colors for all of the textures for this train will be calibrated with a huey PRO device and professional monitor to insure the utmost color accuracy. This way it can be guaranteed that what Mr. Railfan and I create will show up on your monitor exactly the way we intended to.

Just one more free payware-quality feature for the BVEStation Community!  ;)

Title: Re: R33WF [Worlds Fair] Official Thread + Preview

Well what will probably happen is the initial release will be a train of solid R33-WFs.

Later a full TOMC exterior can be finished that includes the R17, R12, etc...

what i was thinking was releasing all separate trains like r17,r12 etc.. and then in the end combining it to the Train Of Many Colors.
i have no idea on how long it will take to do that since it takes a while to create a high quality cab.

after this is released i will work on the R33ML [Redbird] and the R36.

Work on the R33-WF is progressing and the train is around 80% completion. Mr. Railfan has implemented some new sounds and has pretty much finished the panel (however the night panel is not finished).

The exterior is being worked on as well as the rollsign animation by Andrew.

Once this work is finished, the train will be sent to me for the final touches, compression, documentation creation, and release. Quite a large leap from the first generation of the R33-WF for OpenBVE.......

So, here we have our R33WF side (http://s3.postimage.org/g7nblfwk/r33wf.jpg). The first thing that we want to do is to create a rough sketch by using another picture or the datasheet . Now we are going to copy down the entire length of the doors to out clipboard. Very carefully position the doors on the picture and have it line up properly. You can paste them off as one door or two doors. So here is your R33WF side exterior(http://s2.postimage.org/u8p203s4/sheet036_r33wf.jpg)(here's the link)http://postimage.org/image/u8p203s4/ (http://postimage.org/image/u8p203s4/). Just a little constructive critisism, it looks great but it's dim and museum like. I know the pictures were taken at the museum but isn't there a way to make the texture a little bit brighter? And the black stripe separating the white from the blue gets covered up by the top. Other than that great work, and if you decide to do something with my side exterior just mention me in the credits and inform me what you did because I like to have everything I can get my hands on.

Sorry for not posting an update for a while, taking three AP courses this year has really cut in to my free time.

Nevertheless, work on the R33-WF has been progressing smoothly. Thanks to Mr. Railfan the R33-WF now has an accurate 2CY compressor sound (and it sounds so great!), and animated rollsigns similar in operation to the R38 have been implemented by Andy.

Now it is just a matter of creating a dark version of the cab for tunnels, doing some more exterior work, and a little bit of QA/QC time and the train will be done.

I will look in to implementing animated trucks and wheels similar or identical to the ones on the R46 exterior (The R33-WF and the R46 may have different propulsion and brake systems, but they both use the same exact cast truck design), but no promises.

Pretty soon, BETA testing will commence.
You must adhere to these guidelines to be a BETA tester:
1: You have to have been on the forums for more than 1.5 years (Some exceptions can be made for special cases)
2:You must be MATURE, responsible, and a well-regarded member of the forum.
3: You must be easily contactable by email and PM.

If you adhere to these rules and wish to BETA test, please PM me with your email. Sometime in October I will send out BETA versions of the train and testing will commence.

Ok I have received the R33-WF from Mr Railfan. I'm doing some sound work on it and I will send it out to BETA testers soon. If you haven't contacted me about BETA testing yet, do it now.

However, there are a few things that neither my or Mr Railfan's skills combined will work with.
Most importantly, we need somebody to center the exterior so the cars turn correctly.

I have two ways to respond to that.
Assuming your grammar is incorrect (likely based on previous experience):
No Mr Railfan has no plans to make a cab for the R33ML

Assuming your grammar is correct (unlikely based on previous experience): No he isn't, he never said such a thing.

Please work on your grammar skills.

As you can see, this is the regular exterior. I did a modification to it but will not distribute it obviously because it is against the rules. This following image is just for show and tell and to inspire people and things like that.

Ok the R33WF will be released as is as a BETA hopefully by today or tomorrow because I do not have time to fix the remaining exterior issues.

The panel, sounds, and physics are all done, but the exterior can use some work.

I know that several of you wished to help out with the exterior.
Gong Gahou is working on the exterior at the moment. If you wish to help out with the exterior, please send him a PM.

It's great! The brakes seem to be a bit too powerful for a SMEE, and taking on curves is a bit too jerky (Though it's probably just my imagination) but it is really good  :)
Title: Re: R33WF [Worlds Fair] Official Thread + Preview
Post by: Dj Hammers on November 15, 2011, 09:42:09 pm
The brakes are actually pretty accurate. I have driven the R17 up at BERA which is also a SMEE of the same type and it has very grabby and strong brakes.
It comes from the Cast Iron brake shoes really.

The jerkiness is there actually, it takes curves very abruptly and I don't know why...

I also just noticed that the top two side rollsigns (The Route starting point and destination signs) do not scroll when I press the 8 or 9 keys, however the destination sign on the front of the train does scroll. The main route indicator rollsign scrolls normally on both the side sign and front sign, it is just the two side signs that have this problem

Title: Re: R33WF [Worlds Fair] Official Thread + Preview
Post by: Dj Hammers on November 19, 2011, 07:44:12 pm
It does to some extent.

It is really quite difficult to get trains to adhere to the standard because of the lack of run sounds recorded for the purpose. If somebody can go out and record some run sounds off an R32 in all the different possible scenarios, it would be appreciated.

Hey so, just wondering, but when the updated file comes up, all i have to do is just copy and paste the cars folder and the extensions file, and the cars will turn properly correct? bc i don't know if any other updates were made to the train in terms of performance or sounds, but i doubt that.
Title: Re: R33WF [Worlds Fair] Official Thread + Preview
Post by: Dj Hammers on November 20, 2011, 08:08:46 pm
The update will be the full train package. With every single update I always end up tweaking small things that I forget about, so it is best just to re-release everything.

This update is no exception, I also did a couple of small updates to the train.txt file, reduced the file sizes of some things, and did a couple of other touch ups that i can't remember off the top of my head lol.

...the updated R33WF trainset has been uploaded to the downloads page.
and that
error46146 will update the description and "last updated" labels soon.
So, even though the info isn't updated, the R33WF is up to date.

How would you know if I was angry about it?  Can you not tell a blunt statement through an angered statement?  No, just like how you can't tell if I was angry or not when I was typing it.  I said it bluntly with a sarcastic tone, but you wouldn't know and assume.

Not to trash DJ Hammers thread, but that's how it is.  If you took the time to read everything on the post you would of gotten all your questions answered without having to waste time and space.

Title: [36%] The IRT SMEE Fleet (R12-R36ML & WF) Development Thread [+Previews]
Post by: [CT1660] on March 12, 2012, 10:49:16 pm
Here's my other project i had aside, slowly progressing as i'm focusing on finishing the R16. While not working on the R16, i will post updates on the R21/R22 subway car. It will slowly but surely progress!

My other OpenBVE Project: The R21/R22! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH8H77kvMqE#ws)

This is a 5th generation train, and should work with 5th generation routes. Like the R16 that i'm working on, certain features of the R21 may need to be coded in the routes so the train can take advantage of it (a * will be placed next to the feature).

Planned Features:
-Pivoting trucks with animated tripcocks*
-Tripcock feature*
-Animated Rollsigns
-Photorealistic Textures
-Photorealistic Cab View and RFW view
-Third Rail Gap*
-EXP/LOCAL marker lights
-Interior lighting
-Variable visibility headlights*
-Window glass effect
-Individual car numbers
-Individual advertisements per car
-Curved roof
-Controllable rollsign lamp

Most of the features that's already in the R16 will also be added on the R21/R22

Some of the sounds will come from The Taking Of Pelham 123 (1974).

Pelham 1:23, come in Pelham 1:23
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s268/crazychrist69/OpenBve2012-03-1310-24-41-26.png)

Here's a little teaser:

The texture on the curved roof portion is temporary, to give the roof some color.

Sweet, are all your cars gonna have straphangers? keep up the good work. :)

not sure if in 3D, but possibly in 2.5D lol

As in the previous teaser shown, this train will be a highly detailed model, using as much photorealistic textures as possible.

I will be working on the model with the help of Rikabs, as i am still learning on how to use Sketchup.

Of course, im going to make sure it uses as few polygons as possible, while still being detailed.

This too will have pivoting trucks and a detailed underbody.

Because of recent developments the TOMC project has been split. The R33-WF and R33-WF RFW view is going forward as a joint project between me and Mr. Railfan.

For everyone else, if you want to keep up with the development of the R12, R15 and R17 cars, which i will take over for them to help them progress, see this thread:

http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=1538.msg18141#msg18141 (http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=1538.msg18141#msg18141)

I encourage everyone to help contribute so that we can have plenty of resources!

The detailed sections is still on the works, so the R21/R22 will be a Hand-coded/sketchup hybrid model, as opposed to completely hand coded or completely sketchup (to maintain the train FPS friendly).

Also, this thread will now cover the R12, R15 and R17 as well, as i am working on the exterior views, panels, and sounds, to help them progress for their Train of Many Colors Project.

For updates on the R33ML and the R33WF which is being worked on by DJ Hammers and Mr. Railfan, see the following threads:
http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=86.0 (http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=86.0) (R33ML)
http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=331.0 (http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=331.0) (R33WF)

The R21 is also still being slowly worked on. It is now sound accurate as much as possible.

Since the R15 and R17 have the same propulsion and traction motors as the R21/R22 (and the R16 which is covered in another thread), they too are already sound accurate as much as possible.

The R21/R22, as well as the R12, R15 and R17 will have interiors once they are nearly complete.

Thanks to PuertoRican88 for granting me permission to use his R10 model, that will be used for the basis to create the R12 model.

The version of the R12, R15 and R17 subway car in their original paint schemes will be part of DJ Hammer's and Mr. Railfan's Train Of Many Colors project, not a separate download (since it will be a bundle).

The silver and blue livery version of the cars, will be part of the IRT Silver/Blue Livery Pack that i am working on.

I'll give you a few teasers on the silver/blue livery. The museum colors will follow once i have gathered enough textures:

Here is the R12, using PuertoRican88's R10 model with permission:

The curved roof still needs minor adjusting for now. Yes, i know, the headlights are in the incorrect spot. It is still being worked on, then the template model is ready.

R15 template model
(http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/1373/objectviewer20120406193.png)

R17 template model
(http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/2579/objectviewer20120406192.png)

(Storm door texture will be corrected so that it matches the color of the stripe)

This will be the template for both paint schemes as well for the R15 and R17. Again, the paint scheme the museum cars have will be part of the Train Of Many Colors.

Here's my R21, revisited
(http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/2579/objectviewer20120406192.png)

All have curved roofs as standard, thanks to Mudwrestle's help, and PuertoRican88, since his R10 model already has a curved roof.

I encourage everyone to please contribute, so that we can all have a beautiful train.

Looking good, you should also make an R11 sometime, and then some IRT Redbirds like the R36. And to clarify, all these models you are making will have the W/G stickers too, right? And if possible, could you maybe make both a Westinghouse and GE version of each train where it is appropriate? Great so far though  ;)

Yup.

to clarify some things:

R12
Silver and Blue - Westinghouse
Museum Colors for TOMC - General Electric (5760 is a GE car)

R15
Silver and Blue - Westinghouse
Museum Colors for TOMC - General Electric (6239 is a GE car)

R17
Silver and Blue - Westinghouse
Museum Colors for TOMC - General Electric (6609 is a GE car)
Possible Redbird Scheme - General Electric (6688 is a fine example, also GE)

R21/R22
Silver and Blue - Westinghouse and G.E.
Work Scheme - Westinghouse and G.E.

I'm not sure how the R12 sounds like but i'm sure it sounds similar to the other classes.

Maybe i do overwork myself a bit too much..

i currently have a headache after a restless night, but that didn't stop me from adding scrolling rollsigns. First up, are the bulkhead ones:

The R15 for OpenBVE (part of the R12/R14, R15, R17, R21/R22 development) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YA-JKQxhGPM#)

I'll need to adjust the scroll speed for the bulkhead route rollsign to match up the speed of the destination bulkhead rollsign.

side rollsigns to follow.

And here i present you, the R15 in the transit museum colors.

Now to complete the interior, add anticlimbers, and photorealistic pantograph gates as well, and then once the R15 model is complete, work will resume on the R21/R22, followed by the R17. Last will be the R12.

The wheels will be replaced by pivoting trucks in the future (same reason why the wheels are out of place)

thanks again but we already have an exterior [with the exclusion of a proper front]

its Still a work in progress though.

Here's just a tip to overcome bad lighting conditions. I just simply use flash for the exterior parts, and use the brightest parts as the basis for the paint. Here's just a side by side comparison. Just some constructive criticism.

So here's the current side texture:

And here's one i fixed up on GIMP, as a template image only.

Which eventually led to the creation of this (i still need to add the TA logo):

(sorry that the doors don't line up well, since i patched the doors in from the animated door textures)

This is how i overcome bad lighting conditions for train exteriors, considering that i made the last texture out of these shots i took from my last visit at the transit museum, and some editing in GIMP to overcome the "fisheye"-ish effect my camera lens has to make the images straight. :

Just a small tip for creating textures more efficiently.
Title: Re: R33WF [Worlds Fair] Official Thread + Preview
Post by: error46146 on May 15, 2012, 11:34:30 am
Not sure about GIMP but in Photoshop there is an option that automatically balances out the photo so some parts can be brighter and some darker.

Be careful with flash, as the light from the flash can be strong and harsh, and it can lead to dark corners in the texture and a bright spot in the center of the photo where the flash was strongest.

Yes, the doors are animated. Still working on the textures though, so the appearance is subject to change. I still gotta fix up the front end texture, and just add the door opening edges where it would indicate where the doors would be at. Individual car numbers and a separate, high quality TA logo will be placed later, as well as scrolling rollsigns and working marker lights and rollsign lamps.

Due to the slight variance between the exterior and interior texture, i will be using face commands to overcome this.

And i still need to fix that window glass messing up the door textures...

scrapped the old model and instead salvaged the roof code and ported it into the R15 model which the R12 will use. Gonna fix up the roof when i get a chance.

silver/blue front end texture will be edited later on for proper placement of headlights and tail lights.

Just giving you guys a little update, being that the community has been left in the dark for a while on this project.

Right now, the R33WF and R33ML are on hold. This is because CT1660 and myself are working on our other projects at the moment. (For me, this is the R44 and R38).

But for now, here is some eye candy for you guys. As of right now, the panel of the R33WF is the same as on the current released version, so there is no point in showing screenshots of it.

On the fictional 1 line extension route:

Interiors had since been made, all they need are just the seats and other misc interior objects. Unless someoone can donate me a 60W Apple Magsafe adapter, all projects are on hold until i can purchase a new Magsafe adapter, as the one i had burned out while finishing some interior work on the R33WF interior.

I'll keep you guys updated as much as i can. It ain't easy when your development machine is a fancy paperweight at this moment.

Just the addition of the TA Logo...

Beginning work on the curved seats...also need to replace some of the textures so that they are the proper R33WF ones..

Showing the married pair R36 WF's

And the lead car, the R33WF hooked to the 10-car train of R36 WF's

Anticlimbers will be added last, so will individual car numbers.

A little progress of the process of adding photorealistic textures that correspond to the R21/R22 for the R21/R22, replacing the R15 textures used as a template.

(to certain people, the black outlines are only visible within objectviewer and not OpenBVE..)

Yup, there is no speedometer on the redbirds.

Actually, there is a speedometer on the very top of the cab window, on the center.

All pre-R38 SMEE cabs look extremely similar. The R38, R40 Slant, R40M, and R42 cabs are actually the exceptions to the rule, and look
different from the standard SMEE cab.

How can that be implemented??

Pretty simple, you just add on * (pluginstate[ ]) with the appropiate state number, in this case since the 2 key didn't had anything coded in, it was * (pluginstate[98]) next to the code for the animated doors. In this case, this train will have individual car numbers so the last 5 animated files have the code in place while the first 5 don't.

The 3 was always in production in conjunction with the 2.  Same goes for almost every line that's being worked on.  The C came out shortly after the A.  B/D vice Versa.

Lol I remember those days.

I was born in the R62 era, and I was like one day, "What the hell is this red train on the <7>? Might as well get on it, because I have never been on a <7> before. I had no idea that I was on quite a rare train for the day. Wow I will never forget that day at all.

This is looking VERY good! This is the fleet I grew up on. If I may ask, where did you get your picture references from? They are the best I seen so far. I ask because I'm doing a 3D model of this very fleet but not for BVE. I'm looking for reference pics and info of the trucks.

All we need now are more IRT routes. I been playing the 2 line since the first BVE and been waiting for the update ever since.

Hello! I'm new here. You've all did a wonderful job on every single train in this site but I'm really expecting this one (R29/36 as well), those redbirds remind me of my early trips to NYC.

Greetings from Venezuela, Eduardo.

It's a coding error in the extensions.cfg file.

Just need to change 1 line and the problem is fixed.

Just need to change 1 line and the problem is fixed.

I actually fixed it by myself, [CaR17] is referenced for the forward truck on the 8th car, I changed it to [CaR21] and it worked.

Wow, this has progressed a lot! Great work!
I could use some help.....I made a low poly model of a R22 for a game mod and I'm at the texturing stage now.

Where do you get the textures for these models? Or any advice is welcome.

I'm not making it for this game. It's for another game as stated in my post. Never implied I wanted to help you. I wouldn't just intrude on someones project like that. I'm only looking for direction for some good textures.

No worries! Thanks for the link. But I'm having trouble logging in there. It's been a long time since I visited the site and I don't see a regular login form. I know I'm a member but forgot my info. When I go to the login help I get directed to create an account for the wiki.  Did this site change recently? It's where I got most of my train reference images a few years ago. I can still hunt some pictures but it's not easy finding some good isometric views of the roof, front and sides. I'll keep looking.

Yep curious as to see what game this is.  Also be sure you get permission from the photographer of the picture you are using.  The photos on nycsubway.org have a large number of different people submitting their photos!

For those wondering, it's for a game called Cities Skylines. I made a new thread so not to hijack this one http://forums.bvestation.com/index.php?topic=2931.0

Mudwrestle, great work on all the models!! I really miss how diverse our subway system was. You made me have to install BVE again. I was hoping one day the graphics would get to this level.

Courtesy of Mudwrestle, we now have access to the IRT fleet encompassing contracts R12 to R36WF. I have taken the liberty, with his permission, to sort through the downloads, standardize the trains with proper performance physics, add a few minor sounds, standardize the cabs, and generate consists. Here is the result; a ~2 gigabyte package that is ready for immediate player consumption upon installation, no further work necessary. Really good job. I love how the sounds are almost completely different from trains like the R32 and R30 and even he bogies have been remade. Good job, hope to see more preGOH trains in development soon. By the way, Why didn't you post this on the main BVEstation page?

Because apparently the website is running low on resources and no one is uploading on the main page anymore.

Oh, sorry for the massive vaporware.

I'm still working on the sounds, now that it's back in my hands, and tweaking things a bit.

The link that fan railer posted is an official beta release.

Hats off to Mudwrestle for his hard work on the new exteriors and interiors!

The development of the preGOH R40/M/42 has been granted to me by the original developer BveMudwrestle so i'm working on them.
The trains aren't officially released yet, as they had wrong size and need to be rebuilt. I'm gonna post on the original R40/M/42 thread soon so check it out sometime

Since Mudwrestle is working hard on the post-GOH 32s, he has left me in charge of the Redbirds! I've been working hard on improving the sounds, interior textures, and exterior textures. The updates that I have made to the train include:

Stay tuned for some progress photos!
