Title: The new R46 has been released.
Post by: error46146 on June 27, 2012, 11:12:09 am
(http://www.bvestation.com/stockphotos/r46stock.png)

Here is the R46 for OpenBVE, version 3.0

Please read the following notes before you download.

1) The exterior view in this train is highly detailed and fully animated, and therefore will require a high end computer to properly show it. A lower quality non-animated version of the exterior view is in the works and will be released shortly. If your computer cannot handle the exterior view, if you wish, you may use the older R46 exterior view by JayJay85 instead.

2) The train might sound a bit hollow and the sounds may echo. In addition the train might feel rather lightweight and bouncier than normal. That is due to the nature of the exterior view and right now I am still looking for a way to fix it, if possible at all. Please be patient.

3) This train is designed for OpenBVE for Windows. It may or may not work on Mac; I cannot provide support for Mac users. It will not work with any other simulator.

4) Please read carefully and thoroughly the information included inside the train.

This should fix the error that you were getting:

http://www.mediafire.com/?4j0mp6pp9d17oc5 (http://www.mediafire.com/?4j0mp6pp9d17oc5)

Just drag and drop the files from the zip into the "body" directory (R46 OpenBVE>Cars>Body)

The train should now work once you replace those specified files.

Just did a little test run of the train, I love the panel and exterior, but the sounds break up a bit, and it seems to have the same problem as DJ Hammer's R33WF where the train turns and goes up/down inclines very abruptly. Other than that, it's perfect! Good job guys ;)

This is due to your computer not being able to support such a high resolution texture. It happened on the R16 Chris is developing so we had to scale back a bit. You can wait until someone produces a lower end version or Try re-scaling some of the textures yourself.

F Train fan, what are your specs? You don't see many computers weaker than a Pentium III and 512 MB of RAM these days (which are the minimum specs)

it's actually the graphics card the R46 depends on. Actually, the bare minimum for a playable R46 is a Core 2 Duo, 2.4GHz or higher, and a 256MB ATI/AMD or NVIDIA graphics card.

Ha i got Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100618-1621)
           Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
System Model: HP Pavilion dv5 Notebook PC
               BIOS: Default System BIOS
          Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU        P6000  @ 1.87GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.9GHz
             Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3894MB RAM
Page File: 2556MB used, 5229MB available

and i can get 10 FPS steady while in exterior view on a high quality route , which is decently playable and 30 - 60 fps while in the cab.

That shaking was done purposely. If you tried Tjay's test route with the timers, and look at the train. It would have the same shaking effect.

Hi everyone, some people were experiencing problems with the R46 earlier. I have re-uploaded a fixed version onto the server about an hour ago. If you downloaded the R46 this morning or afternoon and are having problems, please go and download it again now. Thank you and sorry for any trouble this may have caused.

That is not what I was talking about. I meant when the train goes around curves. Similar to with the R33WF, it enters the curve very roughly instead of smoothly. Same goes for entering upward/downward slopes.

Hello all,

first, I was glad when I saw a new train. But, I tried it to run and got many errors. Later I noticed it's only for openBVE 1.4.1 - is it written anywhere?

Second, something is wrong when I run it on 1.4.1 version (click on links below for screens). And what does it mean "Train uses a Win32 plugin"??

Yes, this also happened to me when I downloaded and ran the latest openbve. It said that the train uses a Win32 file and gave me hundreds of error messages. Overall, i could barely play it properly without switching openbve to a lower/previous version. (NOT FOR THIS R46, but for various other trains)

If you're not talking about swaying then it could be the track quality of the route in which it was coded. But what I think you mean is the train doesn't go around the curves as like it was on the track so part of the train sticks through the walls or something?
Title: Re: The new R46 has been released.
Post by: error46146 on June 28, 2012, 10:55:44 am
This could be due to the animations and rollsigns since they require the use of the Oskari DLL plugin. I'll be releasing a lower quality version without those plugins soon so see if that works for you.

It's cause the train isn't programmed so that you're riding in the first car like all the other trains. Anybody have a fix for this? I know its something in the train.dat file.

The way the pivoting trucks work is that they are treated as separate cars. So the second car is technically the R46's body while the first and third cars are the trucks.

Essentially, in the train.dat file, as an 8-car set, it's in reality 24 cars.

So in the train.dat file, there's a drivercar index, it's set to 1 for the R46's carbody.

Exactly. In a train like this, if you have the drivecar as 0 (or the first car) then the cab view will pivot with the truck as opposed to the actual car body.

But doing so would also cause the exterior view (F2 mode) to follow the first truck, not the carbody....

I'm having issues with the exterior and possibly my graphics card's drivers. The train and route load fine and it'll run fine. However, when I hit F2 to switch to the exterior view, OpenBVE crashes. Anyone else have this problem?

It works on my AMD laptop just fine, even though it makes the HD 4250 shit on itself.

I tried 1.4.2, since I hadn't updated openBVE on my laptop since 1.3

As long as OpenBVE works the R46 should work. So yes it should work on SP3.

Well you know what me,you and many others have to deal with it.It's been said many of times there is a low quality version in the works so we will have to wait. I get decent frames in the cab 30 flat to about 35 and outside the cab I'm down btwn 9 and 12. It's not the developers fault we as a community wanted high quality stuff nor is it the rest of the communitys fault our computers can't withstand we are trying to make the best out of things.

Great job with the train guys everything is great inside and out.

If you lag with the R46 you're definitely gonna lag while playing GTA IV. On my work machine, I get approximately 15fps with the R46 on the F line, and I get 15 FPS while playing GTA IV as well. Until I fix my gaming machine (which won't be until after I get back from vacation) I guess I'll be stuck with 15 fps :P

What I meant was that since you said you were lagging on the R46, when you play GTA IV you will be lagging as well :P

-Edit-
I was helping Jose figure out why he couldn't run the exterior on his system, and the Microsoft Management Console is telling me that it is a DLL file related to AMD drivers, version 12.6. If anyone else has a desktop with an AMD graphics card, can you tell me whether you can run it or not? I want to try and figure out whether it is a driver fault or whether it is just Jose's system.

Well, I tried it on OSX Lion. After downloading a bunch of dependencies, I finally was able to launch the program... and crashed in about 5 seconds. Tried it again, got the train to load, but for some reason the train would just lurch forward even if it was on emergency brake. After stopping the train and closing the doors before moving, the train kept making a squeaking noise and wouldn't go over 30 MPH. Not to mention that every time you put the power handle to Neutral, the train would just slow down and stop as if the brakes were applied. The exterior didn't work at all. After waiting about 50,000 hours after pressing F2, the exterior showed up and openBVE promptly froze. Now I just use Boot Camp to install Windows 7 and openBVE works fine after that, provided that you update to the latest drivers.

However, I do have a bit of good news. If anybody is looking for a new laptop, a decent Ivy Bridge processor and Intel HD Graphics 4000 is enough to run the F line at 25-30 FPS. However, I had to use 1280x800 resolution, which was the highest supported by my screen, so don't expect to get a 1080P laptop and have the same performance.

Sometimes that problem with the R-46 occurs because people are charging the train wrong(I am guilty of making that mistake a few times but not recently)
Once everything is loaded the 1st thing you must do(well should do) is put the train in the Forward position then "z" so the brakes can charge up you can look at that by the "ctrl and b" keys at the same time and once the gauges are full you are fine to release the brakes fully(going from full service to accelerating or min brake".

Even when I charge the train up the "right way" I still get the same issue. I'll just reload it and it should be fine. Sometimes, I just charge up the brakes and release slowly. Then I put the reverser in forward and go. Still, when OpenBVE doesn't crash, the brakes are a problem more than half the time

No it wouldn't. Whether you get lag or not depends on your computer specs, not your OS.

Actually it will help some because Vista tends to use more memory than 7.

Still, it would not make a major difference, let alone get rid of the lag altogether.

I would only expect something like an extra .5 of a frame per second.

The #1 bottleneck is without a doubt the users' graphics cards.

I'm pretty sure it's a bug with the train and/or OpenBVE. It happens with other trains as well.

Yeah, but as I have seen integrated graphics are getting more and more powerful. The Intel HD 4000 had a hard time loading the R46 exterior but the interior view ran the F line fine at 25-30FPS. Most new laptops these days in places Best Buy only have IGPs, so some good news is that budget conscious users can finally get cheaper computers if they only game they plan to play is openBVE. Who knows whether HD Graphics 5000 will be able to run most new openBVE content smoothly.

Works fine for me here. The only error I spot is in the 4-car extensions.cfg file. The directory listed for the trucks is "truck\truck.animated", when it should be "cars\truck\truck.animated".

This train definitely is sick, but I need some help. The instructions says to use I believe it's 6,7,8 for changing signs, but when i press those keys, nothing happens and I can't change any signs. 2nd issue I'm having is when I release the brakes and increase throttle, the interior lights go out inside the train. Why? and the other thing is, has anyone noticed that the headlights are on in the fourth car just like the first car?

Please HELP!!!!!

It's 6,7,8 above the letters (not on the num pad) for the signs and 9,0 for the lights (same story)

If the lights go off in the cab, I think that the cab is made to do it. If you look at the video for the R44 BETA, you notice the light goes off in the cab.

Yeah then it is what he said. 9 and 0. If those don't work, I suggest either updating OpenBVE or re-installing the train. The entire thing did not even install for me  on the older version of OpenBVE, still trying to figure out how some people got it to do that.

Your anti-virus may be blocking the R46's plugin from working correctly. Try making your anti-virus ignore your BVE folder.

It may not have any thing 2 do with the anti-virus. it depends on the keys that u use 2 operate the train.

Actually it could be the Anti-virus.. Some of the plugins used by the R46 for OpenBVE are identified as Trojans or Worms by some Anti-Virus software. In this case, yes you could try setting your software to allow the R46 folder.

As for the low-res version of the R46, I absolutely do not have any time at all to work on BVE at the moment, so all of my projects are being put on hold now.. I will update you once work is being resumed.
If you want I can set up a mailing list that will email you once I start working on the projects so you don't have to keep checking/asking
