Nice videos, but this is interesting b\c I remember a while back I downloaded the R143 elsewhere and it sounded different like a messed up Siemens or something not like that.

I think there was another R143 released years ago at the old NYCTBA forums.

Nice job making these or finding these files to use on the trains. I compliant you.

However, doesn't this violate BVEStation's rules to not show videos of any modified materials without permission?

No it doesn't b\c that is the Original Unmodified R-143 in that 1st video he's comparing the sounds from years ago to now.As for the R-142A vid Billy or Error46146 give anyone permission to modify his train. But let him know if you want to release it.
Think of these sound packs as an ADD-ON which is optional to replace original files.

I love the startup propulsion, but if I want to get most of the sound I have to apply power gradually... I don't mind though it's a really good package

Thanks, it's still a work in progress though and I'll try to improve it even more as time goes on.

The R142A and R160 Siemens both present a bit a challenge because you can either end up with a rather unrealistic and robotic-sounding train or a realistic one but with brief and unwanted skips in the propulsion sounds. Anyone have any ideas how to tackle this OpenBVE limitation?

It all comes down to modifying the motor and .dat file for the sounds to properly work. They do a great job of it with the 1996 stock over in london

Version 4.0 has been released! There should no longer be any skips in the sound.

@ 711, thanks!

@ Rayvon, thanks a lot for the advice! I checked out the LT1996 and realized I wasn't using MOTOR_P2 at all.

I know this is my favorite train they squeal mainly on the (6)'s R142A's.But I mean this
Openbve NYCT-(2) Franklin Av to Wall St (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOMV9921OUM#)
Thats more realistic than the one that has been released today.Forward it to 2min 25sec and compare that to the one that has just been released.

LOL well what we are Experiencing is the R142A and to be honest Its a M.T.A.
train therefore since the train was around since 1999-2003 and onward
The Train is showing its Age LOL so we have learned the MTA cannot maintain something that long as this train is like 10 years old and is showing age already lol
Title: Re: Official Update Thread For The OpenBVE R142A
Post by: Lance on January 07, 2011, 08:07:37 pm
Trains will always need general maintenance, whether they're ten years old or nearly 50. It's the same thing with cars; if you don't take care of them, they'll break down as well.

But what I am saying is That I feel sometimes a train or bus may be maintained well or maintained poorly
in the MTA

I re-uploaded the train with a new horn and the old brake sound!

@ Haven, just follow the directions! There is no replacing, overwriting or anything like that required, this is the entire train ready to go once installed!

@ Joseto, I agree! Just use this one here and try not to alter the R142.

@ 4Express & Pacific, let me know how you like the sounds now.

@ Error, if you're reading this, swing me a PM and let me know what you think as well!

@ Williamster, Thanks! Rar files compress the files even more than zip and you end up with a smaller download but since .zip is used more here I changed it.

Thanks!

@ Admins, is this release not front page-worthy?
I didn't even know you guys finished it lol. I'll add it to the site a little later and post a news topic

and 7zip and rar archives are superior to .zip because of their high compression rates, meaning you can get a large file at an even smaller size than you would have if it was packed in a .zip archive. The executables in the downloads section are actually compressed using LZMA, which is a 7zip compression method, so you can see how much space it saves.

This is what I meant just to clear this up the other version of 1/7/10 I believe had the unrealistic squeal compared to the current version(which the version before 1/7/10 had)

I have a question though, is the R142A pitched at the right sound? The sounds of the R142As seem to vary a lot more than any other ntt fleet.

Also 4.6 coming soon, I updated only the 4 train version in this one.

Ok, I think I'm still going to try to improve the train more and when I hit 5.0, I'll send that to the admins.

Also, does anyone want to make an animated R142A exterior? If all the effort being put into the fictional trains was the same for the R142A, we would have one nice and realistic train! You can PM me or something, all I need to do is attach the sounds to the train, add some physics and also maybe a way that you could use the screen inside the train to switch the signs on the inside and outside. With all these plugins there's also the possibility of having a working LED sign inside the train that displays the next stops.

I don't plan on releasing a new BVE version. The old R142A sounds for bve were best suited for trevor's r142 panel (all he did was add the top portion to Eddie Yee's original R142 trainset) but all the backseat moderation going on for trevor was too obnoxious for me. I believe that's the reason why the R142 isn't available now which is childish if you ask me. So if you want to use the R142A, you need to install OpenBVE and use the version currently available for download by error and myself.

I am in the process of making some alstom R142 sounds but there's no openbve R142 panel at the moment.

Well, the 142 not being avaliable is because of Trevor's own request. It was his property therefore if he wanted it taken down, that's on him. Speaking on behalf of the BVEStation staff, as a person who actually knows what's going on with everybody on the team, there's no backseat moderation going on here.

That's not what I was told, and the reasoning behind it is still childish if you ask me. And yes, backseat moderation "was" going on because Trevor never spoke to me about it himself. I emailed him after hearing from everybody else (along the lines of "someone is not going to like that") asking if it was ok to release the sounds which I didn't even need to do. You can't control how anyone wants to use their trains on their own personal computer/laptop. As long as I was releasing the sounds and the sounds only, you can't control that too. I could understand if I illegally took the R142, put the r142a sounds on it, released the entire train and saying it was my entire creation, that would definitely be a reason for concern. But that's not what happened, and it was entirely unreasonable to take the train down because of some new sounds.

With that said, I'm just glad I'm past that and a r142a is finally released.

As an administrator here, I will give you the most blunt answer to why the R142 was removed that I can: We took it off the site to shut them up.
It was his choice because of all of the modifications up on youtube, and we were the ones blamed because we hosted the train. I myself have made sound packs years before and haven't received any fire over them, so this is an incident isolated to his trains. There is no backseat moderation involved when it pertains to his creations, if on the other hand it involved other stuff on the site then yes, maybe you would be right. When he demanded that his stuff be removed, we complied, as it is his rights as the owner to do so. As I stated before, a BVE 2 R142A is in development. It will be out soon

Trevor also hates when some mods something without him knowing, hearing, or seeing. I tried to publish a version of his R153 but he said he didn't need it. So as Ray said they had no choice to take it down. Sigh......I just wish problems like this would be avoided, that would have been some nice content since the R142A is wonderful.

Okay let's clear up something here: The R153 is made by me, NOT Trevor Logan Jr. I am no way affiliated with nor will be affiliated with Trevor Logan anytime soon. He should not have any issues about the R153 because nothing was made nor created by him.

And to add, the R153 is Open Sourced.
