The Christmas present that came very late, I present you guys with OpenBVE Multiplayer Extension v0.5 Public Pre-Alpha is available for you all to get your dirty hands on. v0.5 is yet another rewrite to be even better than Newtown, and should be more reliable as well. There isn't a page online for it or anything, but it can be downloaded at http://www.bvestation.com/OpenBVEMEWC/OpenBVEMEalpha.7z (http://www.bvestation.com/OpenBVEMEWC/OpenBVEMEalpha.7z)
Whats new?
- Updated to the latest and greatest version of OpenBVE's Development Version (1.3.4.*)
- 1/3 the amount of code Newtown had (faster and less bloat)
- Designed to be even more stable than Newtown (but do remember this is a Pre-Alpha and it is expected to be unstable
- Inactive/Crashed/Exited wrong way players will be kicked out every 16 minutes
- Automatic Route Detection (No need to select a route, do see the list of routes that are compatible OR waiting to be tested)
- Dispatch Panel is currently not done
OpenBVE Multiplayer Extension requires ALOT of resources which we don't have(on our end) which is also why we almost never keep OpenBVE ME online 24/7! If you try it, and like where its going please let us know, so we can gather enough support to keep it on and continue developing for it. As always report to us any bugs that you may find! We may have found some already but report em anyway, there's a very high chance you will run into some. Obviously many routes are not tested which is why this is a pre-alpha. We're leaving that up to you guys.
Player List/Supported/Playable(to be tested) Routes can be accessed at http://www.bvestation.com/cron/litterbug.php (http://www.bvestation.com/cron/litterbug.php)
Installation Instructions
- Drag and drop the mysql.data.dll and the OpenBVEME.exe into your OpenBVE directory
- Run OpenBVEME.exe
- Start the supported route
- Enter a username and click connect
- When you exit the game hit the EXIT button listed on the multiplayer window or kill the process via Task Manager, DO NOT EXIT ANY OTHER WAY
Source code will not be released, due to code that was added to OpenBVE itself. The code for these additions will not be released. For OpenBVE's source, you can find it at trainsimframework.org
Route requests can also be placed here. If the route has a train up ahead, send me the name of the route file and you will be able to test it.
Any other questions feel free to ask. Outrageous suggestions like Networked Tracks is not my job.
BVEStation's Teamspeak Server is also back online. The TS Server underwent maintenance during the week by the hosting company and is NOT closing due to low user activity. Sorry for any inconveniences. ::)
There may be some changes to the Teamspeak to allow users who are using the multiplayer extension to have priority in the Teamspeak. This includes new users, so that they may try the multiplayer extension.

Awesome, is there a server up at this time for it?
-
The server will be online from now on until whenever it feels like closing itself. :P So yes, it should be fine. 24/7 as of now. I will notify everyone should the central server be shut down. I wouldn't have announced it or made a release if there was no server on.

That's great to hear. By any chance, does it use the mono framework (or would it use it in the near future)? (for those non-windows users who use Macs, or run Linux)
-
I have tried running it in mono, it runs, but it doesn't necessarily work. I'm not sure if it is because of OS X Lion. In the future I might try to place the connection options within the game which should bring full support to all platforms.
-
Never really used Multiplayer. Only used standard OpenBVE.1st Time using this. Window comes up, follow steps, "connect" button is inactive. So I hit "start", route loads & it is all black/white/grey and nothing is really visable. Am I missing a file or something?
-
i get the same error why is it doing that?
-
Did you guys place the two files inside your OpenBVE folders?
-
v0.57a has been released.
Here are the additions/fixes
- Fixed major bug that prevents players of more than 2 on any given route
- Fixed connection errors
- Added the ability to see the number of players online, and en route
- Added the name of the route currently playing
- Added player list to see who is directly ahead or behind the current player
- Increased frequency to check for timed out users
- Exiting OpenBVE (ex. via in game menu) should no longer leave a background process running
A downloads page is now available http://www.bvestation.com/multiplayerN.php (http://www.bvestation.com/multiplayerN.php)

I guess ipac was right.
-
Thats odd, thats not the error I get when I tried running it in mono. I had everything working, but I was unable to push the connect button. It looks like you may be missing the OpenBVEapi.dll or something.
-
v0.59 has been released.
- Client now transmits the speed of the train
- Train's remote killswitch and getting to close to the train ahead will trigger the emergency brakes
I tried messing around with mono and cross platform compatibility, I can say I'm almost there, but not quite. From the looks of it it will work, but there will be major limitations in terms of how it works. Not ready for primetime though.
The old dispatch panel is coming soon.

It is the same link, I just haven't updated the page with the newer version number yet.
-
it says BVE stopped working for me
-
I got it working now. This is seriously cool. I would always play BVE normally, but this just kicked it up a notch. Very cool. But now that I have it working, I want to know (maybe this isInt the thread to ask) is what route(s) are everyone trying out. I've used the newer ones such as the F & D lines.
-
WestEndMan:
The routes listed here are the ones that it can be used with.
http://www.bvestation.com/cron/litterbug.php (http://www.bvestation.com/cron/litterbug.php)
Also you need to update your client to the latest one. Anything after v0.59 should be good, since your old version is crashing other players.
Dr. Subway18:
I'm assuming you didn't use a fresh copy of OpenBVE. Download the latest version from trainsimframework.org and put these files in there. Don't forget to put the dlls in as well.
Minor Update: v0.59.1a
- Decreases the frequency of data transmission in an attempt to maintain a stable connection
-
how do i know what version i have? and if i dont how do i transfer the routes and files
-
Hi there, I recently heard about this but am yet to try due yo my internet being cut. (bill to be paid) so as soon as I have.it working I will post my feedback on here.

Yeah, um, the multiplayer was discontinued a while back. I don't think there was a formal announcement, though, but it's not being supported anymore. Not only that, the OpenBVE version that it uses is really outdated.
