Other Projects / B-Division 1967-1974 Rollsigns
« on: November 14, 2011, 10:32:41 am »
This rollsign style were used on the R16, R27, R30, R32 and R38 class (even though some still had the older pre-1967 signage). Due to limited resources, i did my best to get it as accurate as possible. Feel free to use it. Content released UNDER a Creative Commons License

Here's a sample, set to the Culver Shuttle:

Other Games / Garry's Mod
« on: November 09, 2011, 09:57:26 pm »
Well, while it doesn't have a true definition of a game, it's very popular for those who love to mess around with props, and several youtube movies are often made in Garry's Mod (the infamous Louis and his pills, for example)

It's pretty much a sandbox which lets you do whatever you want. One can download maps, props, vehicles, ragdolls, non-player characters, weapons, etc and customize to their needs

They even have maps and props which allow you to build a fully working train set.

Anyone here plays this game?

Transit / Subway cars in the media? - Post sightings here!
« on: November 09, 2011, 07:54:38 pm »
Whether actual subway cars, mock-up props, or modified subway cars, post em here!

Here's an R27/R30/R30A subway car that was modified so it would look like an R32. The drop-sash window is a dead giveaway, as well as the lack of metal rims on the door windows (showing the black rubber-like rims)

Transit / R142A Testing on the (7)
« on: October 15, 2011, 02:50:14 am »
Note: THESE ARE NOT MY PHOTOS!

Looks like they've been testing the R142A on the (7) train as late as September.

The photos are dated 9/21/2011.

I did get a glimpse of the actual train myself in person since where i live, it's right next to the 103rd st Station, but didn't make it in time to take out the camera for videos.

BVE/OpenBVE Support / OpenBVE + Steam = ???
« on: September 02, 2011, 10:50:52 am »
1) Open Steam (for those who have it)
2) Select "Add Game"
3) Select "Add Non-Steam Game
4) Find the Executable for OpenBVE
5) Add to library
6) ? ? ?
7) PROFIT!

In a nutshell:

For Steam users (those who play Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod, etc.), i've noticed that you can add OpenBVE as a Non-Steam game, yet when the game is set to full screen, it seamlessly adds the Steam overlay like if it were a Steam game

thought this might be an interest for OpenBVE players who have Steam, since Steam has a voice chat and a text chat, and one can start a group chat, whether voice or text, and can have a similar experience like Teamspeak, for example if TeamSpeak is down.

i mentioned this to error46146 about it, since he's the only admin i have direct contact with.

i took the photos directly from the screen as this machine had no internet (might get it back today) and no USB drive in handy. i'm using my iPhone's tethering plan for now.

Other Projects / Texture/Graphics packs?
« on: August 10, 2011, 12:08:02 pm »
i was always wondering if permission is required for a route graphics modification, even though the actual file won't be an actual route, but, rather, just a .zip file containing the core files that would change the look of a train route (in other words, a graphics modification one can optionally download to have an alternate version of route, in terms of looks)

The franklin ave shuttle would be a good example. For example one wants to release a graphics/texture package that would make the route appear as found before the entire route was overhauled and renovated, for example, the way it was found in 1976, or even, 1993. so for example, the download has the replacement images for the platforms, signage, etc which would replace the existing images if one chooses to do so.

Other Projects / Prototype R110A 3D Cab
« on: June 16, 2011, 11:04:08 pm »
So here's a little side project i'm working on, trying to replicate the R110A cab as accurate as possible in a 3D render. Hopefully someone can make use of it once i add the appropriate images and etc and finalize this side project.

soon, i'll try to replicate the entire interior of the cab, from top to bottom.

the only challenge in the controls itself is to make a 3D render of the telephone intercom.

Transit / Caught a (7) Train on a battery run
« on: June 04, 2011, 10:21:14 pm »
so i was lucky to catch this train, on Grand Central.

this train was extremely late, hence, had to skip Vernon-Jackson, Hunter's Point, and 45th road/Courthouse Square.

meaning, this train went DIRECTLY to Queensboro Plaza from Grand Central

Transit / Subway Accident Flashback...
« on: May 13, 2011, 12:21:54 am »
Around last month, or so, I was going back home from school. So as soon as I got to the Main St station, MTA workers just closed the station, and told me that the (7) line was temporarily shut down.

(since all (7) trains are currently pure R62A's, i'm only mentioning (7) for this)

So ok, there was a shuttle bus that made up for the (7) service.

They were announcing that there had been a passenger accident in 90th st, thus, a police investigation.

As soon as the bus reached junction blvd, they announced that (7) service was resuming. So I decided to get on the (7) just to see what exactly happened. Yes, the manhattan bound (7) was forced to run on the express track.

Once the train nearly approached 90th st, there was a (7) that was stopped in the middle of the station (on the manhattan bound track), and the front car had the storm door open. A little further, and there were about 10 cops, and apparently, they had a dead person's body on a stretcher (was covered in a white sheet).

EDIT: found a link that reports this incident
http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/person-hit-by-7-train-in-queens-20110405-KC

Who knows if the person was pushed into the tracks, committed suicide, or accidentally slipped and fell (it was a rainy day). sadly, i doubt that this was on the news. There was blood on the tracks.

BVE/OpenBVE Support / BVE Routes/Trains installer
« on: April 19, 2011, 07:31:13 pm »
i've noticed how the routes and trains are packaged in an .exe file.
as you see, i mostly use my Mac, rather than my Windows pc.

question is, would it be a good idea if we had installers for BOTH Windows and Mac OS X? because i don't want to have to turn on my PC just to install the routes/trains, then transfer to the Mac.

i know the majority uses Windows here, but i'm pretty sure i'm not the only Mac user here.

BVE/OpenBVE Support / OpenBVE and Mac OS X
« on: April 15, 2011, 10:03:58 pm »
has anyone had any luck getting OpenBVE running on Mac OS X?
i know there's a way on getting it to run, but the steps seem confusing.

if so, i'm going to need help to get it working on Mac OS X 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard), on an Intel MacBook Pro.
